About Us:
We are a homeschool and homesteading family currently building on our new 20 acre homestead in North Idaho. We garden, seed save, raise rabbits, raise chickens, process our own meat, save our own seed, can, bake, and do just about everything that we can ourselves to achieve a self sufficient and debt free life for our family.

Your garden is looking good. I have a suggestion for a crop that you might not consider if you are sticking to practical produce this year. The suggestion stems from my uncle who was a farmer and used a ravine he had by his kitchen garden. He did not want to plant pumpkin and melon which would expand wildly over a garden smothering everything in its path. Then he thought about just planting them at the edge of ravine by his kitchen garden and leave them alone to see what happened. Amazingly the vines expanded everywhere growing down into the ravine. At the end of summer he had the best melons he had ever grown and a full patch of pumpkins. Better still, the harvest did not hamper the regular garden. So, my suggestion is to plant some melon and pumpkin at the ravine by your garden and leave them alone to see what happens. If it works you won't have to contend with it taking over your garden and what you do not use is good food you can cut up and feed your animals. Win win. Good luck with the garden.

Loved seeing all the critterz! It’s beginning to look a lot like a homestead! It was wonderful seeing all the family out working, and playing, together. Better watch that Dinosaur, might be dangerous to your chickens! I just got 11 laying hens, their coop, outside run, and all their food and accessories! I haven’t had chickens in 35-40 years!! Our ground is too frozen to till-here in Southern Idaho; but soon and very soon!!!

I think those beds will bow out when you fill them up with soil. It might not be a bad idea to add one more brace in the middle to hold the sides parallel to each other.

Lol, I know that I will probably get some bad feedback from what I am about to say. BUT here goes anyway, The first thing I thought of when I saw the bunnies in the sunshine hopping all over each other happy, was "Yummy"! I too love to cook and eat rabbit. I actually made two rabbit and a duck for our Christmas dinner this past year. The kids love it. But, I would really LOVE TO have and try the rabbit that you make Melissa. Looks super delicious and you have cooked way more rabbit than me so I'm sure that your feast is so much more fabulous tasting.

I used railroad ties for a similar project as yours. I used 3' lengths of rebar, drilled holes in the ties and nailed the ties to the ground. After 15 years I have no shifting of the ties. I also put cement around the tops of the nailed in ties, just to seal out moisture. Would be happy to send picts.
