Good to come across this thread. I noticed one of my danglers was larger than the other about 6 months ago and had it diagnosed at the hospital I happened to be attending for a broken upper arm ( following which I also had a bout of Covid, so three bummers in a row). Now it has swollen to a good-sized guava and is extremely uncomfortable, annoying and embarrassing. I'm down for surgery and can't wait to get it over with. There are plenty of gory vids on the op but this is the first one I've encountered giving the experience of the 'wearer' themself, which is much appreciated along with the hundreds of responses.

Hi all. I just want to share my experience. I had the surgery 1 week ago and my experience seems to be quite different from a lot of the comments I have seen here. Of course, the area has been a little tender, but I have not felt a lot of pain, in fact just a little discomfort from time to time. I was given strong paracetamol and an anti-inflammatory painkiller to take which I have been alternating every 4 hours and overall, I have felt fine. The worse part for me was feeling ok but having to keep reminding myself that I need to rest and take it slow. I first had it diagnosed in November 2022 and after several appointments and tests I was given the option to have the surgery or wait until I was ready. I spent several weeks unsure what to do but I was always self-conscious about having one enlarged testicle and it was on my mind daily. Generally, if it doesn't go away by itself within a few months then it is likely that it will just keep getting bigger over time. For any of you here who have a hydrocele and are worried about having the surgery, then I would definitely recommend getting it. I know for us guys down there is a sensitive area but really after just 1 week I already feel so much better about having had the surgery. I still have more healing to do but I will update you all next week with my progress.

Hi again. Slightly late with my update but here it is. I am now 4 weeks after the surgery, and all has been good. For the first couple of weeks, I had a little discomfort but nothing that kept me awake at night. The next couple of weeks were again ok but I think I have just been over cautious. I had a check-up with the specialist a few days ago and he said that I still have a little swelling but that is normal and now I can start to have a normal life again. I know we all have different experiences but for me it has been positive. I was so self-conscious before the operation about having a large testicle and it was always on the back of my mind. now just 1 month after the surgery I can see that it practically looks normal again and I feel so much better in my mind. You are all different but if you have the same issue and are not sure whether to have surgery or not, I would defiantly recommend getting it done as soon as you can. You will have to take is super easy for the first couple of weeks and then just be a little careful for another but then you will almost be back to normal.

I’ve had mine for 14 years… finally getting surgery. Thanks for the video it made me feel a lot better. Update: surgery done on 12/7/22. The surgery went good. No issues. The first 3 days were rough. Pain was mild to moderate, peaking on day 3. The most annoying part was the drain. I figured there would be something attached to catch the drainage, but unfortunately there was not, had to keep a bunch of gauze to soak up the fluid and blood. Thankfully I had my wife to help me change my dressing (for better or worse right?). I was given hydrocodone and an antibiotic. The antibiotic gave me diarrhea which sucked and made the ordeal so much worse. Swelling and bruising began to subside around day 4-5. Currently 8 days post surgery and I’m still feeling some slight pain and discomfort due to the stitches. Swelling continues to decrease. I had lived with mine for 14 years and was about the size and shape of an avocado. It wasn’t causing me pain just slight discomfort and embarrassment. I could have left it alone and I regretted doing the surgery for the first few days. But that feeling has passed. I know once everything has healed and the swelling is gone I’ll feel so much better.

I had the surgery 8 days ago. Feeling better now but still probably have a few more weeks to go before I feel 100%. My best advice post op if you have a drain tube is to get an ACE bandage to wrap around your upper thigh and create a holster for the drain. It's much more comfortable than trying to tuck the drain inside a jock strap, especially when you need to sit down.

Hydrocelectomy. 66 year old. Hydrocele detected 1.5+ years previously. Gaining a Urologists attention for my hydrocele, and any urgency was very difficult, as they are perceived to be minor. I actually had to switch Urologist as I could get no traction for treatment. During the 18 months of having a hydrocele, its size increased from a plum, to lime, to lemon, to orange, to small grapefruit. During surgery 1/2 liter of fluid was drained, which seemed to really impress my Urologist. Problems sleeping, and the fact that something was "just not correct" was my main issue. I was also limited in types of exercise (running, biking). Towards the end the hydrocele was visible through my clothing. Sleeping problems diminished as the hydrocele got larger for some reason. On-line I saw minimally invasive hydrocelectomy or laser treatments as an option. These were advertised to be lower impact with fast recovery times. I was not able to find those options locally, but would have liked too. My incision was big and had ten stitches. Surgery was out-patient under general anesthesia and went well. I guess anything less than having a testicle the size of a grapefruit feels better. I did use pain medicine overnight before switching to tylenol. The most obvious pain symptom was the feeling that someone had kicked you in the family jewels, though it was manageable. My Surgeon installed a penrose drain, which is an open tube draining from the surgical site. This was quite uncomfortable, and resulted in blood stains all over. The blood literally flows out of the tube into a gauze pad, but the gauze pad leaks a lot. The initial plan was to leave the drain in for 14 days, I would characterize that as pretty impactful due to the discomfort and blood. I took a shower after 24 hours, which I thought was OK (I was not told not to), and saw quite a bit of bleeding. I wished I had asked more about that. On-line I saw references to showering after 24-48 hours. When talking to the nurse about the blood she indicated that was normal, but also suggested we take the drain out. I didn’t even like having the drain for 2.5 days, having it for 14 days would have been horrible. If your Surgeon indicates they are using a drain, I would ask questions and look to minimize that. Things almost immediately returned to the correct size, though the scrotum was clearly stretched out and took a few days to return to normal. Bruising showed on day 4. Still taking OTC mediation for minor pain. I did not ice as much as I SHOULD HAVE…. After surgery the exterior of the testicle was hard, almost like a shell. This did not cause any problem, and things became normal after a number of months. The final results turned out well and feels pretty normal.

I am 10 weeks post hydrocele surgery and unfortunately my hydrocele has completely returned to normal size (apple size), and I have a bit of pain some days and uncomfortable sleeping whereas before surgery I was 100% pain free. So, for those considering this surgery, just be informed that it doesn't always resolve the problem. I will consider a second surgery, although not leaning towards it at the moment. I wish everyone the best who decides to have the surgery.

Hey I hope you're doing better now. I LL go through that surgery next week. I have few questions to ask you if you don't mind for sure: 1- how many days did you have to stay in bed to fully recover? 2- on the fifth day after the surgery, were you able to walk ? 3- did your doctor take off the entire tissue surrounding the testis or was it just emptying the sack and seal everything back? The draining tube type was Penrose or jackson-pratt? How does the scar look as it gets older? Am afraid and bit nervous because I have prior commitement at my job and I only can rest for 5 days before resuming my "normal" life.

I had my hydrocelectomy about 4 days ago. It was on my right testicle and was the size of a large plumb. I had lived with it for over 20 years and it started out about the size of a pea but steadily grew over time. My drain tube comes out tomorrow and that has been really annoying. The rubber drain is shaped like a hand grenade and holds about 100cc. Tucking it into a jock strap with your sore testicles is not very comfortable at all. I found it best to wrap an ACE bandage around my upper thigh to create a makeshift holster for the drain and that was more comfortable. Pain has been manageable with ibuprofen. Ice packs help for sure. I have some swelling and bruising, but even with that, my scrotum looks much more normal sized than before my surgery. Hopefully things continue to improve and I can get back to some normal activities within the next 2 weeks. Thanks for making this video!

@@LoganHarris quick question. I'm now 8 days post op. Drain tube is out and I'm healing up pretty nicely so far. Did you have pain in your lower abdomen on the side where your hyrdocele was removed? I have the type of pain one would feel after being hit in the testicles, where it kind of radiates up into the lower abdomen. Yeah it'll be from the sack tissue being wrapped back around the testicle and sown down. It's really not a good procedure, and I get the impression every one is slightly different. The first time I had it done feels completely different to the second time results. I imagine with yours the tissues will become slightly less bloated with time, but I think much of that tissue weirdness will be permanent, sadly. I'm in a similar boat

Have had a softball sized hydrocele since about 2004. I misunderstood my doc back then I think. I thought hesaid that they could poke it with a needle a bunch of times and it might come back or removal of the testicle. He said that I only really needed one. It's been embarrassing and my ex-fiance wanted me to go in for repairs. Either the science and technology has improved since then or I misunderstood my Urologist. I think I can suck it up for a couple of weeks to have it removed.

@@edwardbennett959 It seems like it's a bit of 1 & 2. Anyway, I went to another doc this past August and they confirmed that I have a hydrocele again. They said no surgery was needed because it's apparently small, but I'm still experiencing swelling of the size of the original hydrocele, pre-op. I'm just at a loss as to what's going on or what to do. Ever since I've had a hydrocele, it seems my urination hasn't been the same, either. There's more leakage/frequency. I wish there was a better known diagnosis that could be easily figured out and fixed, but not yet so far.

@@HazelEyedElf If you've had the surgery and still got a hydrocele I'd get a redo surgery. It can be caused by a few different things, and it is possible to have more than one problem at the same time. Your GP should refer you to a hospital for an ultrasound scan, where they can confirm if it's just a hydrocele or not. Most likely it's just a hydrocele. As I understand it the exact reason for the hydrocele is generally unknown (idiopathic), unless it can be assumed from evidence that you have provided to your consultant, ie, you know you had an infection or an injury recently. Other than this, I think they might figure it out during and after the surgery (if they take the pouch out) when they're examining it. Although, this isn't helpful by that time. It's really sad that there isn't better, more modern ways to deal with this

@@poochees If you're talking about like a hard egg shaped thing in there, yeah I think it's a hematoma. Its common and it tends to go on its own within a couple or a few weeks. Its just a collection of dried blood I think that takes a while to reabsorb. Sometimes it doesnt dissapear and they have to take it out surgically, but I wouldnt worry just yet. As for 'normal' size, it depends what you mean by that. I think mine looked more normal after a month or two, but I don't think it will ever be back to normal completely. It'll always look and feel somewhat bigger than the other side. @@reek2hate939 I had to be careful with the incision for about two weeks. Polysporin twice a day and a new non-stick bandage. I was sore for about a week then now it’s starting to feel a lot better walking and standing up so I think I’m all good now. I’d honestly get it checked out asap if I were you just to make sure you didn’t get an infection/ or blood clot. Wish you the best man

I'm from India, unmarried, have moderate hydrocele, and I'm worried about fertility after hydrocelectomy. Should I go for hydrocelectomy.

Im getting the surgery in a month. Did it hurt after waking up, or after a few days?
@LoganHarris
@LoganHarris 3 жыл бұрын
It didn’t initially hurt cause it was still numb but after a few hours and then 2-3 days after it hurts. I laid down the whole time cause it hurts to get up or move at all. After maybe the second day the pain got way better.

Hi I had mine Friday hurts a lot the last 48 hrs. Wearing strap on surgeons instructions. Taking paracetamol. I been waiting over two yrs from when diagnosed. Due to COVID 19 all elective surgeries cancelled. Delighted to have it done no pain no gain. I can wear some trousers and jeans now that I could not before.

Hey 👋 how was the surgery like how long is the recovery
@LoganHarris
@LoganHarris 3 жыл бұрын
Surgery went well! Recovery wasn’t bad! I was up and walking normally with no pain after 3-4 days! The stitches and wound stay there for a couple months but it’s not super annoying. Im sittin here 6 months later and it’s like it’s good as new!
