The Lynx was designed to be carried inside a Humvee with the barrel-retracted and when you step out of the vehicle and release the barrel it also chambers the first round so it’s ready to rock! Forgotten weapons just coverd this gun! So you need to lift the charging handle to separete the bolt from the barrel when loading the first cartrige. Also you can soften the recoil with changing the brake position.
@sergeyishenin6733 жыл бұрын
Yeah that’s what it is to lower recoil!
@flaviobriggs3 жыл бұрын
@@sergeyishenin673 In the GM6 it has an additional feature as well. The less energy the muzzle brake is taking from the round the more energy goes into pushing the entire barrel backwards. Rounds that aren't packed as hot wont have the energy to chamber the next round so if you adjust the position of the brake on the barrel you can increase felt recoil but also increase its ability to chamber the next round.

@StarkRaven593 жыл бұрын
A quick primer on how this gun works. The GM6 Lynx uses a long-recoil action. In short, the gun uses the mass of the barrel being pushed back from firing to cycle the bolt. The barrel and the bolt stay locked together for the full length of rearward travel, before the barrel unlocks and the bolt is held back to eject the spent cartridge and feed a new round. You'll notice the small part stays at the back of the gun for a moment before going forward. Because the Lynx uses the barrel as recoiling mass, it can afford to make the bolt actually quite small for a .50BMG. The Barrett M82 also uses a recoiling action, but the Barrett is a short-recoil action. The barrel and bolt only stay locked together for a fraction of the bolt's travel before the barrel unlocks and returns forward.

Nice thing about cheap safety glasses: - You wont be apprehensive about getting them dirty or scratched -They are available everywhere -Cheap means you can replace them frequently and have new condition glasses pretty much all the time. -Don’t have to worry about storing them (when the job’s done, toss ‘em) -Impact/abrasion PPEs are consumables by definition. I made some tests on our shooting range includding 22lr, Trap shotgun rounds from 10meters, 9mm. And to be honest cheap safety glasses for builders etc (even very cheap from a building supplies shop) performed the same or better than "ballistic" shooting glasses. Expensive shooting glasses are more comfortable etc. Best performing were machinist glasses (made to stop debrii or broken tools from cnc machines), they stopped 9mm! Unless the lenses are polycarbonate, they'll fail just as quickly. There is no commonly available material that does as good of a job as polycarbonate for absorbing impact, while staying optically clear. What's sad to me is that there is NO company that can make lenses that don't get scratched easily, to this day. How many videos have you seen where a grinding disk exploded and Oakley's or any other expensive brand caught the pieces? None. Much like an A-5, much like a Remington Model 8/81. It's a long recoil action, the Barrett is a short recoil action (like an M2 machine gun). The function of the barrel/bolt is functioning exactly the same as those 120 year old designs. The recoiling mass of the barrel hitting the rear of the receiver imparts a lot of recoil. With a short recoil, or gas operated system, the recoil impulse is imparted by the much lighter bolt/bolt carrier. In slow motion you see two recoil impulses delivered to you shoulder, the first is resisting the recoil spring and the second, larger impact, is when the barrel/bolt slam into the rear of the receiver. The Browning A5 and Remington 81 do the same. Also, the muzzle brake may be purposely less efficient than the Barrett because if you reduce the recoil too much, the rifle won't function. Try shooting a light target load in an A-5 Magnum and you'll see what I mean. (I'm speculating on that, because the .50 BMG would seem to produce an abundance recoil to cycle the action, even when tamed by a brake) I always wear safety glasses when shooting and where I most often feel the benefit of them is when shooting skeet and sporting clays. In either sport it is not unusual to get pieces of broken incoming targets in your face, and when shooting sporting clays in wooded areas, I often get hit with ricochet shot pellets bouncing off trees. Either could easily cause serious eye injury. $15-20 shooting glasses have always served me well.

Well said. Saves me from having to type it out too LOL

I didn't realize the Barrett and the M2 were both short recoil operated. I figured they were both gas operated.
@garyK.45ACP3 жыл бұрын
@@brianwright9514 No, short recoil. On each of them the barrel moves back with the bolt for a short distance and then the bolt disconnects and travels rearward under the inertia imparted by the short recoiling barrel. This was also used in a variety of shotguns and is the basic system of virtually all semi-auto handguns.
@ThomasHendrickson3 жыл бұрын
@@garyK.45ACP short recoil is comparable to short stroke gas piston, long recoil is comparable to long stroke gas piston.
@garyK.45ACP3 жыл бұрын
@@ThomasHendrickson Not insofar as recoil is concerned. In a gas operated gun, whether the piston is short stroke, long stroke or "no piston" (direct impingement) the barrel is fixed in place. The barrel does not recoil with the bolt and does not contribute to the recoil impulse. The piston itself has insignificant weight to contribute to the recoil, compared to the weight of a barrel. An M1 rifle is a long stroke gas piston, the M14 and M1 carbine are short stroke. The barrel is fixed in all of them. Observe the recoil of this .50 BMG long recoil rifle in slow motion and note the peak recoil occurs when the barrel and bolt, locked together, slam into the rear of the receiver. You would not see that with a gas operated rifle or shotgun. Also because the gas is regulated with a gas port placed somewhere farther up the barrel from the chamber, where the gas pressure is considerably lower than chamber pressure, the energy driving the bolt is reduced. With a long recoil operated gun, whatever you shove out the front, comes back to hit you in the shoulder, multiplied by the mass of the barrel. Some designs, like the A-5, use a braking system with beveled bronze rings to squeeze the magazine tube and reduce the rearward speed of the barrel. The rings have to be set for the type of loads you will shoot. "Heavy loads" or "light loads". If it is set for light loads and you fire heavy loads in it, the A-5 is well known for splitting the buttstock lengthwise by driving the receiver tang back into the stock mortise. If you have the brake set for heavy loads, light loads won't cycle the action. You have to remove the barrel and the rings and position them for what you are shooting. This was one of the flaws of the Browning system that gas operation sought to fix. I suspect the muzzle brake of this rifle does that job, there being no magazine tube for braking rings to work on. I would hazard a guess that the owners manual says not to change or remove the muzzle brake. Due to the speed of the recoiling mass in a .50 caliber rifle, the two recoil impulses may not be discernible as separate from the recoil generated by the firing of the cartridge. I don't know, I never fired a long recoil operated .50 BMG caliber rifle. But in a lighter recoiling arm, like a Browning A-5 or Remington 81 (both of which I own and shoot) it is very distinct as two separate recoil impulses. It is an unusual feeling. As Matt noted in the video. The barrel returning to battery, followed by the bolt slamming into battery a moment later create two separate "reverse recoil" impulses. All else equal (cartridge and load power) the long recoil operated gun has more felt recoil over a longer period than a gas gun of any persuasion. Hence Remington touting the Model 58 Sportsman (their first gas gun) as "softer recoiling". It is!

Matt; I have one of the first (if not the first) GM6 Lynx to come into the US from Hungary and given the fact that my Hungarian is a bit rusty (I'm only ~5th gen Hungarian immigrant) I couldn't read the manual, but with a little trial and error (I've shot mine quite a bit) I discovered a few tricks...like how to properly charge the rifle. Option 1: pull handle up (disengages the bolt from bbl) then back like a bolt action. Option 2 (only if verified clear): push barrel down and lock, then insert loaded magazine and release lock. Option 3: lift more weights and do it like you did (guys, it's seriously hard to charge like that from behind the gun because you're fighting the bolt spring and a massive barrel return spring). Enjoy!

Hey Mate, yes, those protective glasses were not meant to stop squat sept sparks from grinding. Look at it this way, while K-Mart was protected a bit, Gator guy could at least see it coming & get the heck out of the way. Good anti glare glasses are tops for shooting but you cant wear mirrored anything into battle. Might as well carry a flag saying here are my eyes, shoot here. Keep up the work, good & bad, it all counts and keeps us comin back for more. Peace out mate. Wayne

Now we need a 50 vs 50 to see if there is any difference. Could do bullpup vs standard configuration also! Awesome new pew pew!

You know when you can make a mean old man laugh more than once during a video, you're doing pretty damn good. Just don't get hurt! Thanks Matt. You made my day.

The wonky focus and narrow depth of field makes me feel like I just woke up and can't stop focusing on Matt's handsome face. Getting to see what he was shooting at would've been nice too.

Agreed, I have mentioned this in so many of his videos. There must be a setting or something on the camera right? Even an iPhone camera has better quality.

Yup, terrible job from whomever is holding the camera. (He might have worked on Snyder's Army of the dead.)

To me it looks like a new camera with a slow auto focus on it.

Yeah the DoF is annoying, but the choice of where they are pointing the camera is worse. I don't mind watching him shoot, but I want to see the target hit. It's almost like they don't know how to fix the depth of field so they just keep it on Matt and ignore what he's shooting at.

Barret also made a Bullpup version called M82A2, it was tested as the AG90 by yours truly but we settled on the AG90C (M82A1A) which can be used with the Raufoss Mk 211 Mod 0.

At 25lbs unloaded the GM6 Lynx is actually pretty light, the lightest (short) variants of the M82/M107 are in range of 29lbs and change, most however are over 30lbs

I would love to see your fastest full mag dump from that Lynx. Also, would love to be able to see what Matt is shooting at when at the shooting bench.

Its not Matt but i think Arm&Gun did a mag dump of the Lynx that was pretty awesome

Loving the bump in video quality! the Videographer is doing some great work. I would say if we could get a deeper depth of field when he's shooting that would be great, it kinda takes away from the cool factor when you can't see what is happening downrange and just see a big blur. The bump in quality on the closeups/slomo is something that he's needed for a while and it looks great!
@seanharrison61623 жыл бұрын
I'd say its a new camera and he's getting used to it or he's either struggling with manual focus or the autofocus holding its gaze on Matt cause its set to recognize faces

I got a headache from the jumping focus and the super small depth of field combined. Hope they figure out something

18:30 The recoil doesn't look bad, it's the barrel recoil. You can actually see two recoils per shot.

Yeah but the barrel recoil is still the recoil get rid of that moving barrel and you’ll just have 1 big punch instead of 2 lesser ones

Основное достоинство этой винтовки в том что подвижный ствол , с длинным ходом , хорошо гасит отдачу 50BMG.
