“Gimme double which I desire?” Na that lyric video is wrong. He says “gimme that which I desire” This is like a grease monkeys anthem lol Love it though. You guys gotta react to “Memory Remains” and “I Disappear” Those are two of my favorites from that era of Metallica, aka “The Load Era.” Load and Re-Load are the two albums they released in the 90’s that were Hard Rock. Many of their Metal fans were pissed, starting with their more commercial sounding self titled album or aka “black album” that came before the Load albums. True Metallica fans know the Load era was still fire.

This is late 90's Metallica. This song was on ReLoad, which was released in 1997. Also, the lyrics in the video are wrong, it is "Gimme fuel, gimme fire, gimme that which I desire!" not "double which I desire". My favorite song from this particular era of Metallica is "King Nothing"!

Big fan from the thrash days, this is one of the few later tracks I really love. Bringing in the vintage Metallica crunch during the breakdown, Hammet's leads are great here, not trying to steal the show but very nice and complimentary to the song. Great track about muscle cars and all out horsepower. Seeing Lex turn into a headbanger is priceless!

This song live is completely nuts. When I saw them play this they had like 50 foot high fireballs erupting from the stage and the roof of the stage (outdoor stadium show). Like 10 of them all at once and it was hot as Hell. Every time you felt it no matter where you were. I was in the middle two sections up from the ground/floor level and it felt like I was a foot away from a bon fire.

This was the album that they really "changed" They definitely went more mainstream....still heavy though. They cut their hair and they all got cleaned up, think it was mostly drinking they had issue's with....more so than drugs, but I could be wrong. People say the Black album was when they first "changed", and then this album was their next "change"

This was mid-late 90s. 1997 (single dropped in '98). It's the first track on ReLoad, but the 3rd single. The first single was "The Memory Remains", followed by "Unforgiven II", this one, and finally "Better Than You". I love both Load and ReLoad. I used to listen to the entire Load album on repeat when it came out. It really bummed me out that a substantial chunk of Metallica fans hated these albums. I think people have warmed up to them more over time though. "Low Man's Lyric" on ReLoad is an amazing song (but definitely not Metal... it's kind of a soft rock ballad in the same vein as "Nothing Else Matters" but musically and lyrically more dynamic).

@@Metallikyle Okay. If I were to say which songs are filler, it would be more the middle of ReLoad (Slither, Carpe Diem Baby, Where the Wild Things Are), not the end. But even their "filler" songs are good. Personally, the album I can't stand is Kill 'em All. That album is actually trash (in part thanks to the god-awful mix, but also because James couldn't sing for shit yet). But as I said, to each his own man. Glad you like Low Man's Lyric and Mama Said at least.

Keep in mind when this came out, mid-nineties, they were excoriated as having gotten "soft" and they betrayed their hardcore heritage. And, they cut their hair which made a lot of fans tear their own hair out as a result. So, to review, this song was apparently not hard enough. Go figure.

Old school Metallica fan here. Black album was hit and miss with me. Bob Rock ruined their authentic sound to take them mainstream. Worked financially for them but killed what so many of us liked about them in the first place. This is my first time hearing this song as i mainly stopped listening to anything after the Black album. This. Is. Not. My. Metallica. They turned into a whole different band with a sound that's nothing like what they were.

Most of their stuff is good, even if it's mediocre by their standards. But there is nothing on the St Anger album that I would ever listen to again. Lars' drum sound was abysmal in that.

St Anger gets better the more you do listen to it. The metal tom put me off too but if you listen repeatedly your brain starts to tone down the most frequent sounds and you start to hear shit in there that was being overshadowed. Once you acclimatise it’s a very good album.

If you want to understant the Load/Reload era to the fullest,you need to hear and watch the live perfomances of Bleeding Me,in Madrid 2008,Outlaw Torn,Manheim 2019(the album versions are good too) and studio recorded songs such as Fixxxer,Cure,Hero Of the Day,The Unforgiven II,Until it Sleeps(give a chance to the "Cunning Stunts" live version),The Memory Remains(i also prefer to watch a live version from 2018/2019 or the newest of 2021) and much more.I know that they 're too much but once you get into them you will see the deeper meaning and feel the emotional atmosphere that surrounded the band during that period.Its a musical expression of their real of their true self,of their passions and of the battle they give against their demons(for example,''Bleeding Me'' was about alcoohol addiction,''Outlaw Torn'' about losing someone that you love,"Until it Sleeps" about the death of James's mother by cancer).I hope you give those albums some good chances,you 've got nothing to lose,they are incredible as the others,you just have to listen them with open mind and soul,some of them are realy fun.

This is the Laod/ Reload/ Garage Days revisited era of Metallica. Some very good gems in this era. Check out Bleeding Me, The Outlaw Torn, and Fixxxer for starters. The mid to late 90’s they got less thrashy and more bluesy.
