WTF is wrong with your generation? As someone who is adopted, why in the hell does anyone think they have to "live with the consequences" or "kill the baby?" Neither of those should be a choice. A child is not a consequence, parenting is not a consequence. I've raised 4 of my own sons, none were a consequence. My maternal mother knew she could no take care of me and I was born into the foster system. nine weeks later I was started into the adoption process and then fully adopted after a year. That was 1966 when we had a lot of babies, and orphans. Today, with birth control and abortion we are literally importing babies to be adopted. Any woman who doesn't want to keep her baby should put them up for adoption. There are tens of thousands of couples who are crying out for a child.

We actually have a crisis happening in the foster system, lots of malpractice and overpopulation of children who aren't being adopted out for things like their health care needs, because they're too old, or even because of restrictive laws in some states that prevent perfectly adequate potential parents from adopting. And when it comes to living with the consequences, it's not just limited to the child a mother would give birth to. The stigma from everyone she's surrounded with during the pregnancy that will follow her after she delivers, the debt she'd have to pay for medical care during and after (not everyone can get into a program that helps with those kind of things.) Sometimes birth is heavily traumatic and can injure her body or mental state forever. There are a lot of reasons that makes abortion the most optimal choice for a lot of women.

I will say, my birth mother, as I learned decades later, left her home in Santa Rosa California and gave birth to me in Sacramento. She later returned to the coast, which is not an unusual thing. Personally, if the "pro life" movement spent as much time showing compassion to pregnant women who did not want babies as they do haranguing them to keep their child, some of these hurdles might be helped. As say this as a Christian and someone who obviously prefers life as a choice. As for the foster system. Yea, that's always been a thing, even when my parents went through it. Dad actually moved from So. Cal to Sacramento to adopt me, I was their second child, because the social worker in So. Cal. refused to let them adopt a second child because she didn't believe in that. Sadly, with the politics and the wackadoogles I'm not sure that can be fixed. I just wish adoption was more vocal. In the discussions today it seems to be completely ignored.

You're right, adoption should definitely be an option expressed to more mothers but sadly in our world, it can't be that simple. On that same note, while we should work on the adoption process we should also create more accessible programs to provide support, and education to the people. A lot of abortions would be prevented if people actually had the means to bring a child into the world, or the means to prevent one from even being created. (A point being stated for anyone reading the comments.)

I'm Catholic, so I disagree with Brett wholeheartedly regarding contraceptive use. The contraception mentality is what has led to abortion in the first place. If you are not married and don't want children, abstain from sex. This happened for much of millenia. Yes, people did break the moral code, but there was stigma attached to it. There are methods like Natural Family Planning; men being in tune with their wives cycle and women knowing more about their babies.
