My mentor who's also a mechanic that has taught me everything Mr. Miyagi style has a flip-phone too. It's like a sign that you've met a hypercompetent person who gives no fucks. One of his "lessons" was helping me take an engine block out of an SUV by myself on a ten degree night in the dark last winter haha. I had to get it fixed fast because I needed it for school since it was our family's vehicle (I drive SUVs because of some bad wrecks in cars that give me anxiety now). The "lesson" part was he said "naww I'm done for tonight it's cold! but keep working on it and I'll check tomorrow." He left for thirty minutes and drove back by to see if I was still working on it, when he did, he joined back and helped me finish it that night. He had brought a special spotlight from his garage to make my working conditions brighter. The SUV has worked like a dream ever since, and we even made slight modifications to make the part in question easier to access. Guy's like another Dad to me and I'm glad he's in my life.

Will be a good example of how hard it is to fit any non-standard engine into a vehicle. Many throw around "just" until they try and fail. Multiple issues and custom engineering is required. Even with a classic gas car, the transmission tunnel must often be cut out and reformed to fit an LS engine and transmission. Motor brackets must be fabb'ed and connect to the K-member (or engine cradle). The oil pan may not clear the K-frame and steering. Room for exhaust manifold (or headers) and exhaust is often tight. On the plus side, the Model S has a light aluminum frame and is designed somewhat like a low-volume custom car, which may make it easier to mod.

@@KingOfCreampies Teslas are extremely resource intensive to produce, so they have a higher environmental impact than ICE vehicles before they even hit the road. Most electricity also comes from the burning of fossil fuels, so it's not like a Tesla doesn't also "burn fumes" into the environment. - "... that requires no physical substance to keep it running." - Natural gas and coal are physical substances, so are solar panels and wind turbines.

@@babyloller8463 You are an idiot if you think any of that had anything at all to do with safety. It has to do with establishing ownership over the use of the vehicle. In particular, Tesla wanted to establish themselves as the sole owner of the software package in the vehicle, contrary to a number of court decisions. Tesla is getting away with it because they do own the charging stations, though it may still be deemed illegal if the disabling happens in the vehiclesoftware. But the trend that Elon is attempting to establish his pretty damn clear: every Tesla car will be controlled by Tesla in perpetuity.
