@@starrkow I must say, your English teachers are wrong then. Bahasa in Indonesian and Malay means 'language', there are many foreigners using the word 'bahasa' to refer to Malay or Indonesian though it's wrong. I speak 4 languages and started learning malay a few months ago, i find it hard even though everyone says its easy! Usually the ones saying that are natives 😁 These are the toughest challenges i think: 1. Everyone translating differently, i will ask 2 different people to translate the same thing and they give me totally different translations in malay. Google translate also gives me another translation! So confusing. 2. Several words meaning the same. 3. Everyone replying to me in English, as i look foreign, when i speak malay, locals tend to reply in English, which makes it hard to practice what i learn.

1. Sometimes English words have different meaning but in malay it's the same thing. Example English words like cup, glass, mug usually we just called it cawan 😅 2.yeah quite few words have different meaning but it depends on what you are referring to. Example daki: 1) dirt on your skin 2) climb hill or mountain Mereka: 1) them 2) design/create something 3. Just tell them you are learning to speak Malay & ask them to reply in Malay too 😅

Another word for beer is arak and sex is persetubuhan.I'm a malay but a very good american accent.Yes malay is confusing but I'm gonna make it even more confusing. We have no pronounces for boys and girls. The word 'Dia' is used for both boys and girls. Its meaning is literally a mix of he,she, they. The way to know the gender of the character in malay is that if it uses 'Perempuan itu/ini',it means 'That/this/the girl.If it uses 'Lelaki itu/ini',it is 'That/this/the boy.Hope I made your brain hurt!

Bear in mind that our country had been invaded by the britain is one of the causes. I mean, they brought in some technologies like bicycle, lorry, and motorcycle that never existed in the malay world. You can call it weird if we arbitrarily named it far from its original words. But some words like class we call it bilik darjah, beer for arak, relax for santai and sex for bersetubuh.

Malay language have a lot of English vocabularies and Indonesia language have a lot of Dutch but come from same root. So, it simple to learn but there are also have their own words in terms of Malay traditional vocabularies. For example, 1. Class - Kelas, also we say "golongan" or "pelajaran", "pengajian", or "bilik darjah".. 2. Cake - Kek, or "kuih". 3. Sex - Seks, or "jantina" or "jenis kelamin" 4. Relax - Relaks (slang); or "Tenang" or "Santai".

For "relax", you can say "tenang" instead for the Malay word. "Tenang" means "calm" or "calm down" and so it could also be translated as "relax" in this video's context.

I use to study in Brighton in 2000-2002. Did some supply teaching (Guru Ganti) once a week in Schools around East and West Sussex. Taught some Malay words to students there, sudu, satu dua tiga empat lima etc. The students love it and said its easier than French. I said you could learn it as it is one language spoken by some Commonwealth Countries such as Malaysia, Brunei and Singapore.

Ya this is the easiest part bcos Malay language didn’t have too long of a history in their vocabulary formation…hence a lot of words Malay words for daily communication are sorta direct copy & paste of English with some minor alteration to the spellings…If really wanna see the big difference would be the Malay literature where words are deep and not easy to be remembered.

Uh uh no! Seks bukan bersetubuh in Malay, but bersetubuh is part of seks! Bersetubuh is sexual intercours in English, kedua 'bersetubuh' and 'sexual intercourse' adalah kata2 formal/terhormat. Tp dalam bahasa kasar, "bersetubuh" ialah MENUTOH dalam bhs Melayu & FUCK in English, kedua "menutoh" dan "fuck" sebahagian dari "seks".
