There's this saying that the opposite of trauma is play. I had a rough childhood, so lbp was almost therapeutic for me. When no one was there for me when I was a kid, lbp gave me friends, a coping mechanism, a creative outlet... everything I am now looking for in my adult life. I feel sad that I wont ever be able to go back to it, but it was there for me when I needed it most.

I went from being isolated in an abusive environment to forming connections, growing as a person, and even doing commission work for Media Molecule themselves! I'm even going on a plane for the first time tomorrow to see my girlfriend who I met through my LBP friends in person for the first time and I'm bringing controllers so we can play the game that saved my life together. 😌

The Ps5 generation always make me sad. Not because of the lack of games that everyone says these days. Sackboy was Sony's lovechild, and to see him and his series burned so quickly with no fanfare is just disgusting. Sumo Digital's incompetence to keep the whole POINT of LittleBigPlanet alive is especially disheartening. The slogan of the series was "Play, Create, Share" and Sumo went and threw away the latter two words for some basic 3D platformer I never see anyone talk about. I don't think I even saw any marketing for it past its reveal trailer years ago. The poor performance of the series was due to Sumo's inability to create fun games after Media Molecule's departure and Sony's unwillingness to try and keep it alive and breathing, and what did they do when they saw that poor performance? They packed it up and said goodbye to it all. Sure, hackers also had a hand at its downfall, and the game (LBP3) was quite old, but the only reason nothing could be done was due to not being optimized and stable in the first place. If only Media Molecule stayed for one more game before moving on... then maybe the series could have stayed alive for a little longer. Rest in Peace, LittleBigPlanet. You were my childhood.

Companies wanna pull in all the stops to please their shareholders, but at what cost? The issue with #3 was that it was trying to do WAY too much with a game engine made in 2008. Not only was LBP not designed for 16 layers, but It was almost always too much. And all the stuff sumo added turned out to be buggy and kinda mid. I played a fair bit of all these games, LBP2 being the most I played, it was peak. I never played the story, because I never liked that about them, but recently went back and watched some playthroughs. And I 100% feel like #3s story was overcomplicated, confusing, and very much the biggest drawback. Almost entirely because they spent more time doing that than fixing the game.

I don't think it's Sumo's fault really. First, LBP's engine is garbage. Its ancient and buggy, and its extemely insecure servers were what lead to its shutdown. To make matters worse, its outdated tools were never updated after they were created and Sumo were basically on their own a bit after acquiring the source code. On top of having to port the game to the PS4, alongside working on LBP Hub at the time, and possibly being forced by Sony to release the game in late 2014, you can't really blame them for the final game's release. Generally it seems that Sumo was (and still is) restricted on what games they can make, which is most likely why we got SABA instead of LBP4. Even the devs themselves want to continue working on LBP. But sadly they can't because of the people in charge.

Littlebigplanet was the very first videogame i EVER played starting at 5 years old, and ever since then it felt like the franchise had grown up with me. Nostalgia hits me like a truck whenever i hear the soundtrack, it brings back so many memories of pranking my friends by dropping them in the minecart level, or customizing my wolf with stickers in that wolf RPG game, escaping the titanic while it sinks, running away from bombs, running away from a t-rex, running away from jeff the killer, playing those weird role-play levels with randos, committing sack-suicide whenever i was the last person alive in slender because i so afraid, swimming to a lifeboat to escape giant angry whales, and using the dive in feature just to get a glimpse of the coolest level in the world and getting booted because of internet connection issues right before you find out what its called. This franchise gave me more memories than i could ever put into writing. The last thing i did before the servers were permanently shut down was replay the classic lbp 1 story levels that were uploaded to lbp 3 a few days before my 18th birthday. This game was quite literally my childhood.

Though we can't really relive those late 2000's -- early 2010's LBP community feels anymore, there's still a passionate community working hard to create new projects on the franchise. The modding community has actually really sprung up in recent times, and the servers shutting down has led to a multitude of level archival efforts, as well as a new, expansive wiki being in the works. They can certainly push us down, but man, this community does NOT want to give up just yet.

Little Big Planet 3 was my first PS4 game when I got mine back in 2016 after my Wii U broke. I was a huge Mario Maker fan so this game was perfect for me and the memories I made with my brother playing it will always be in my mind.

I can tell this is definitely a video that comes from the heart. Everyone has that one piece of media that change them as a person - that growth being one of the main reasons artists advocate for its preservation. For me, this game was Undertale. A game that inspired me to create my first OCs. A game that made me want to draw more. I’m happy to see something as heartfelt as Little Big Planet gave you the push to create these videos.

I really loved the interview section as well and how much genuine passion is put into this video. i was born in 2007 and i was playing lbp on my ps3 from literally when i was like 4 years old and i was SO ADDICTED. obviously i cant remember that much from that long ago, but my parents told me that id sometimes have accidents because i was so fixated on the game (lol) i dont have a ps3 anymore and ive kinda gone past it. your video containing clips of the gameplay has made me SO NOSTALGIC and id honestly do absolutely anything to go back to when i was younger and just playing lbp all the time. the original music from the game was trending on tiktok a few months ago and it genuinely physically hurt me listening to it because it was so nostalgic to me and i just wish i was a little child again. i remember having a little mini plush sackboy and its leg falling off (attached by a thread) and me screaming and crying to my mum to fix it because i was so upset (she did) and i wish i didnt lose it because it holds so many memories for me. even though the online servers arent up anymore, i was considering saving up for a ps3 and lbp 1 to just experience it again. it saddens me beyond belief that sony would rather shut down all servers and shove years and years worth of community game play under the rug rather than fix it. those games where maybe not so good lmao, but they certainly left an impact on me. like those jeff the killer games or the mortal combat ones, etc etc. i think the reason it had such an impact on me was not only how good it was, but how i was so young and basicaly grew up with it , ive actually been replaying lbp3 on my ps4 and cussed myself out for not being able to beat the levels since i was capable when i was much younger. any future children i have will grow up with the little big planet games :)

Holy moly. You have a deep memory of a lot of things from the community. Thats awesome! I love seeing videos like this reminiscing LBP's community moments and just love for the game. It truly is the end of an era. I was one of the folks that started LBP2 with Sonic Sackbot creating. Eventually I moved on to more original creations, but man whenever me and friends got time to hang out we'd play Air Warfare or some of the Nightlife City levels before detonating each other in create mode!

I played LBP3 when it came out, I was very hyped about it because I was an avid player of LBP2. When it came out, I remember the only bug I encountered was not progressing to the next area after finishing the prologue or whatever it was, but aside from that, I remember playing it for years without any remarkable problems. a massive part of me remains in LBP, i genuinely think it made me who i am today in more ways than not. it spanned a major portion of my developing life and i became invested in not only music, but the community itself. I remember knowing and meeting all of these different people. I was friends or at least acquaintances with most of the music community and by that regard, i knew or met a lot of other creators. it was such a positive influence on creative minds that i occasionally catch references in other media and wonder if I ever met them.. and with all that said, it's often unspoken that anybody ever had their roots in LBP

I’m 31 and the amount of franchises that have been slaughtered have jaded me to no end. I seriously believe that your generation (late 90s?) is the last to feature this type of heart break. Video game companies are now so anti-consumer, that kids are going to grow up only knowing the bad video game practices. They won’t have anything to reflect on for when games used to be good. Similar to how products today aren’t designed to last: companies kept getting away with it until it was the standard to have something that doesn’t last. They bided their time until bad practices are accepted as normal. Indie studios are absolutely going to replace AAA games, and I’m excited for that future.

I was born in the late 2000s and no. the 90s kids were NOT the last generation to feel this. The amount of heartbreak littlebigplanet gave me when it forever shut down was so extreme that I seriously could not explain with words how bad it feels knowing something i love is forever gone. reminiscing on it is extremely bittersweet and nostalgic and it just makes me feel extremely gloomy remembering what I once experienced as a kid being impossible to experience *ever* *again.*
