Many Central Asian migrants are among the estimated 50,000 prisoners who were sent from Russian jails by the Wagner mercenary group to fight in Ukraine. While some volunteered with promises of early release, there are accounts that others were coerced to enlist.

@@1midnightfish I'm glad someone in these comments has true empathy and maturity. If people understood the perspective of a Russian prisoner slave soldier and their lack of access to information as they're repeatedly indoctrinated with how bad Ukrainians are... They might understand that walking through a minefield toward the Ukrainian front with hands in the air might not be preferred to just hiding in their fox hole. Especially if they know their own Russians would kill or torture them if caught.

@@rAg70707 Like many others in this comment section, you seem to be missing the point of the video. Many of these prisoners - particularly those belonging to ethnic minorities - were coerced into joining up by various means, including isolation, torture, and arbitrary reduction or withdrawal of exercise, washing facilities and various nutrition. One POW interviewed by the Ukrainian journalist Liubomir Ferens for Lviv Media earlier this year said that his HIV and Hep C medication regime was arbitrarily altered by prison doctors with no regard for his health. The smartest thing Putin did was allowing prisoners to be used in war. Recidivism rates in the US are around fifty percent within a year. Most crime is committed by repeat offenders. I would guess these figures are similar around the world. Imagine how much better off Russia will be if they can kill off a large part of their criminals. Then all they need to do is change leadership.

I can only imagine the havoc that these great Heroes of Russia will bring/have brought the motherland when they return with their pardons. Giving violent robbers, molesters, rapists, murderers and even cannibals free reign to cause as much harm as they please for 6 months and stick them into society. Whew, good luck with that.

I don't see the point in signing up voluntarily for recruitment if you're an inmate in a Russian prison. You'll be drafted against your will anyways once all your fellow inmates have gone voluntarily to the battlefront and died there.

If her son done the crimes then he has paid for it. Who knows.. I couldnt imagine the Russian court system is all that grand, especially seeing how they outfit troops. He could be innocent... who knows. What I do know is his mother lost her son. Any parent would feel immense loss reguardless id think. Seems she has paid a hefty price and I truly hope she finds peace.

Tuning into the orwellian channel number 1 and number 2. The economy in shambles, expenses must be cut, who wants to spend money on a prison system filled to the brim with felons worthy of death, and a few pickpockets as well. They don't need them in Siberia, and they don't pay their board. What else to do but send them to the front, wave after wave the wave. We can't have any of them running the streets of Moscow or even The Villages. The concentration camp, a death camp without razor wire. Wherever a cell tower stands, are the Tower watch guards of the Concentration Camp you didn't even know existed, that you live in.

I empathise with a mother's woe, but I'm failing to find compassion for rapists and murderers whose crimes were so serious they were given such long sentences, that going to a war seemed like a better option for them. I'd be happy from this turn of events, had it not meant they got to kill and hurt Ukrainian people who had no crimes on their conscience. If I had a son who had raped someone, I'd not have a son anymore and would pray for the earth to swallow him. I could perhaps find some understanding for crimes of theft and similar ones resulting from poverty and desperate financial situation, but rape is none of them. But here we have yet another example of a highly patriarchal, toxic culture of pampering and raising boys without teaching them respect towards women, self-control over their instincts and responsibility for their actions, ending in turning a blind eye to crimes of sexual nature and absolving the offenders. The mother behaves as if her son had been a pickpocket or something similar, while in fact he was a monster and dangerous criminal.
