Nicole Tung has been documenting the war in Ukraine since February 2022. She has photographed Russians prisoners recruited to fight by the notorious Wagner group, seen investigators uncover mass graves and witnessed Ukrainian soldiers capture a suspected Russian-spy.
Born in Hong Kong, Tung also shares with us photographs she took of pro-democracy protests there.

Thank you,Nicole Tung. Photo Journalism is the first step to holding perpetrators accountable of their war crimes. The second step the retrieval of the human remains by the Forensic Archeologists. These two sets of professionals work together to bring social justice though they may not ever meet each other. Both jobs are extremely dangerous. Photo Journalists can be shot at and killed or kidnapped and tortured. Forensic Archeologists can be shot at to be deterred from their job,but more likely they can face land mines or biological chemicals as the pursue their goal of recording,documenting, and retrieving. Thanks to both groups. It take tremendous bravery and courage.

@jessicaaguilar6435 ~ it’s the U.S. who sponsored the original Nazis to begin with. It helps force the recreation of Israel for religious conservatives. It also forced the USSR to use up its immediate resources to defeat the Nazis, thus allowing the U.S. to take world hegemony via the petro dollar. It’s the same social archetype at work in Ukraine today. The Reich Wing 2.0. ..the U.S. basically used the Nazis to harm the USSR as it’s now using the Nazis in Ukraine to harm today’s Russia. I can cite the history to prove it all if you like. I like when people are intelligent and educated. It saddens me some to see so many people being deceived so successfully about what Ukraine actually is and what actually happened to lead up to WW2.

It must be satisfying if exhausting to have this degree of dedication to exposing the truth where your life is at risk virtually every day. Nicole Tung puts herself in harm's way in Ukraine and Hong Kong because she clearly believes in something greater than herself. And photo journalists in general are the greatest risk-takers of all journalists since they are inside events as they unfold. I only hope that at least some people continue to appreciate work like hers. I fear that in the future AI will be able to generate images seemingly in the midst of events that will be drained of all human dedication and sacrifice. We may be nearing the end of the solidarity of the real.

let me tell you, i was a Marine platoon commander in Vietnam 1968-1969. Hard year. Lost too many good Marines killed and wounded. We operated in different types of terrain that included sandy pine forests near the coast, rice paddies, elephant grass, jungle, and the mountains. It was physically and mentally exhausting. It was stinking hot in the dry season and it rained constantly during the monsoon season. I was a company commander in Hawaii 1975-1976. Hawaii didn't have a jungle course in those days, rather it was OJT taking the company on training exercises on both Oahu and the Big Island. I can confirm that the terrain really sucked in both places, especially keeping control of a rifle company. I did nearly freeze to death at the Army's Arctic Warfare Course at Ft Greely, Alaska in 1977 while I was the 1st Marine Brigade G-4 Operations Officer because one of our contingency plans was in the event of another Korean War. The commanding general wanted me to advise him as to how to prepare for that mission in the event we had to deploy to Korea during the winter. So he sent me to the Arctic Warfare Course. I also spent two years in Latin America supporting a host nation's counter-insurgency effort. I wasn't as dangerous as Vietnam, but it was dangerous work. It was a designated combat zone and so I received combat pay and fitness reports. The country also had some serious terrain challenges. Retired after 21 years. Greatest honor in my life was leading Marines, especially in combat. I know howto help these people....i know how to handle it, i will tell you

This channel mastered narrating stories in a way that makes you feel you uncover the mystery yourself ... Thank you VICE👏👏👏 May I also remind you the fact that our Native American population in our motherland, the Continent of America before the European Colonizers arrived, was around 15 millions, while the European population in their motherland, the Continent of Europe was around 25 millions. Today, Native American population is 15 million, while the European population, in the Continents of America + Europe, is a staggering TWO BILLION! A shocking sad truth. 😔 In my humble opinion, it's about time to decolonize the Colonized lands, and return it to rightful owners Native American people. Notorious global cardinal crimes the Christian West has committed, and benefited a great deals, such as Slavery & Colonialism had long been over, why on earth is notorious Colonization still lingering on, may I ask? 😔

Sad reminder that many war criminals after WW2 were allowed to return into society having never served time. Society chose to forget. We need to STOP choosing to forget. I love that picture of the prisoners being led through the yard with all of that Ukrainian history on the walls. Its a pretty interesting tactic because so much of the ideological background for this war relies on "Ukraine being part of Russia". That's all you hear and see in Russian media. "Ukrainian history is Russian history" and so on. So for them to line the walls of this prison with Ukrainian history and counteract the propaganda at an individual level is a very cool.
@SanderSA-ny3lh

It also illustrates the absurdity of Russia simultaneously claiming Ukraine is not a thing and has no history, right before claiming their whole own history consists of various crimes the Russians made up. Kind of like the Bradley IFV is such a threat it warranted nuking Washington DC, but at the same time they're worthless and Russia destroyed all of them already, but at the same time they're claiming destroying more every day.

And the propaganda worked. You think that a war crime happened because they just mentioned the word a few times and then tried to make it look like one, just using your bias. They try so hard to make it look like a war crime, even say that they will be looking for signs of executions, but almost a year later and they d not mention the identity of the graves, because they are probably dead Ukranian solddiers burried by Russian soldiers, which unfortunately is not a warcrime. They do not mentioon who was killed, how etc. and this is a year later the super cool investigation.
