There is indeed, a "White Sea". I just happened to have been reading about the convoys during World War 2 when I came across it. It's considered the inlet to the Barents Sea.

I thought the Seven Seas were the seas around China that the earliest European captains who were trying to circumnavigate the globe, traveled in. Like Magellan. I like how you tie it to various cultures and time periods!

OK, I'll give a strong argument for separating MOST of the Great Lakes. It's very simply to argue that Superior, Erie, and Ontario are distinct lakes, because they all have different surface elevations. The only lakes that are not distinguished from each other that way are Lake Huron and Lake Michigan.

🤔 I agree that the number 7 has historical significance. In the Holy Bible's New Testament, Jesus is asked if they should forgive 7 times. Jesus answered that they must forgive 7 X 7, indicating infinitely.

I'm sure you have no problem with defining geography based on whether the inhabitants wear hats. And I wonder if the alliteration is part of why the phrase "seven seas" and ,by extension, "sail the seven seas" has hung on, at least for English speakers.
