Did not even hassle me on taking their financing, as I told them I was pre-approved at my Credit Union for 3.90%, they said congratulations! Thats a great rate, we cant touch it!
@Burps___2 жыл бұрын
That's because you overpaid for the vehicle.
@patrickbrinkmeier18582 жыл бұрын
So your credit Union loves you so much that they paid you to borrow money from them???? Due to the Feds raising interest rates 4 times since October to combat inflation current Prime Rate is at 4.5% so your credit union is paying 4.5 % to the Fed to borrow the money they loaned you and yet you claim you go a lower rate then that. Super Prime Customers with scores over 820 are being offered rates starting at 5.49% at places like USAA, Navy Federal, Chase, Cap One, Trust, Wells Fargo, etc... The only possible way to get a lower rate is to buy down the rate ( ask Kevin..... But that will increase your price ) or to go through a dealerships in house bank like Toyota Financial, Ford Motor Credit, who will offer rates like 2.9 % but they will only be short term loans like 36 months... So your sure you get a lower rate but when you do the special finance rates from manufacturer banks for lower rates you lose any cash back rebates....plus your monthly payment will be much higher .. Many people that buy a 35k plus vehicle think getting that low rate for 36 months is great untill they see their 1050.00 ( or higher ) a month payment.

They didn’t play any games at all and the only change from the existing agreement was that we added a towing package (well worth the cost in retrospect). I bought a loaded Pilot with leather, nav system (big deal in 2006) and tow package for $28k with preapproved financing through our bank (USAA). Even with $400 in airfare it was a great deal. Is there any chance of recording the results of the contest such as the hidden camera videos done by undercover consumer advocates we see the TV news crews do? The dealership name and dealership personnel could be blurred in case of legal reasons. If there is no way to capture that interaction on video, what about capturing the exact words said in the negotiations then use that as the script for a video recreating the interaction word for word in real time, using the Amazing Elizabeth and THG staffers as the dealer personnel and the customer (if not the actual customer you assist if they would be willing to be on video). I'd be more than willing to watch any length of video to see this happen.

Good demo, but... finance officers are not dummies. They will realize that a trap is being set for them when you ask for them to put the doc fees in writing as being mandatory and then to sign it. They will simply re-state that it is a company policy and that they can bring in the GM and have him/her explain it to you if you would like... or some other such tactic designed to shake your confidence. But they won't sign a written statement; nor will they state it while you are taking a video of them doing so. Most people will probably cave and pay the fee, but If you persist in your efforts to "trap" them, they will ask you to leave the dealership. You've not lost anything, but neither have you won anything. Same goes for the dealership. I would say that this tactic could only work with a not-very-experienced finance officer in a rural area. In the big city, these guys have seen everything and will just refuse to play your game. They also don't want you going around blabbing to all your friends about how you "beat" them. As more and more people try this tactic, it will simply become part of all Finance Officers' training how to counter this tactic and not fall prey to it.

I remember when we bought our Chevy Sonic back in 2012, after we were done and the ready to go, we went to the finance office which was odd because we paid cash for the vehicle. When the guy pulled out the cardboard cut out of the required oil for the vehicle, I stopped him. I said, "Yes, it needs Dexos 1 approved oil. However, the GM oil you're recommending is semi-synthetic which is lower quality than the full synthetics on the market that are also GM approved. I know that, because I already looked everything up in the GM shop manual (which I have access to) as well as the owner's manual. I already know what oil it needs because I do all my own maintenance". My mother who was the actual owner said, "We're just trying to save you time. Plus, my late husband was also a car salesman. I know the game hasn't changed much, except maybe the fashions of the salesmen are updated a bit with the times". The guy thanked us for our time and I said, "It's never coming here except for a warranty repair. I can do everything your shop personnel can do in my driveway". True to form, it's never gone back there for a repair that wasn't a warranty repair. I've done all of the maintenance and repairs on my own. Also, even though I had negotiated a price, I had one more up my sleeve. When the final price was settled, I said, "Well, that's not really good enough". The salesman said, "Why not?" I said, "Because of this. This is a report from GM's system that says that this car has been sitting here since September when it was first PDI'd and arrived to the dealership. Plus it has a half scraped off inspection sticker on it. It looks like someone had a deal going and then had to back out for some reason. You know as well as I do that every day this car sits here it loses money. You have to come down". The guy came down and I said, "Still have to go lower". He said, "This is the best I can do". We were $100 apart. My mother broke the tie. She said, "Ok Fred, here's the deal. You take $50, and I take $50. We both win". Sold. The funniest thing? Another dealer had e-mailed me and said that they could get me a car but for $500 more than I paid. The kicker? It was the same VIN # as the car we bought. I told them, "That's funny, I paid less for that exact car, same VIN #. I've been driving it for a week". Needless to say I didn't hear back from that other dealer. The only thing I would have said to the finance person is, "This is the deal we had. If that's not the case, I'm not buying the vehicle. Have a good day". I would have thought the numbers would have been worked out before she set foot in the dealership.

It is actually like a discrimination law, if they charge (not must) then they have to charge to all customers. Just have them back it out of the car or into the trade in value to get rid of it. Actually, in our state, I think if those other fees are not posted on the car next to the big msrp label showing them when you look at the car sticker, then that is illegal.

Hey Kevin and Elizabeth, thanks for the great video again. How do you respond to the FI officer if he/she tells you that the add-ons are already on the vehicle and they really are? Do you bring the price down to what they actually paid (in-house price) or walk away?
@mojodojo5533 Жыл бұрын
That's what I was going to ask. I suppose you can say you'll pay half of it and they can take the other half off the selling price, if not all.

How can we use this technique for online transactions? Im looking to buy a car but the ones I wanted are too far to visit and try to negotiate like this. Thank you in advance!

With internet sales it would be helpful if you could illustrate how some of those fees like title, registration etc. are negotiated if you are purchasing a vehicle in another state.

And how would it go if you at only pay cash for a portion of the purchase and financing the rest thru my own bank?

It’s a shame consumers have to go through nonsense just to get an honest deal on a vehicle. In my experience. Some dealers are heavy handed. Others are not. But they always seem to try something. I know they are in business to make money. But it’s the way they go about it. I’m sure there are some good salespeople and dealerships. But all the years I have purchased vehicles, not many. I knew a guy that told me buying a car is like horse trading back in the Wild West.

Damn! I can only WISH to get through a finance meeting like that 😮😮 Elizabeth always handles that with the utmost grace!

You can too now. Study the video, take note, practice before you negotiate. There are other videos Kevin uploaded in KZbin about negotiating with the car dealer. Very helpful.

@@bigb9257 Well are you really going through all that to save just $500 when you are purchasing a 33k truck? I always tell sales person that I need a walkout door price in writing when I'm negotiating. It's a lot easier to deal with a sales person and you don't have to be ugly or argue your way out of with a financial officer. That way only thing they ask would be if I want to buy their warrantee program. You can say just yes or no.. I'm not buying a car anytime soon tho. With this crazy prices we'll be the losers buying any cars now.

Corrected if I am wrong, but when dealing with a salesman and a finance officer ,your demeanor should not be friendly. Business like might define it. I thought Elizabeth was a bit argumentative and confrontational.

Yes that may be good, but most of us do not have this kind of experience to ask the right questions to a shrewd Finance Officer who has been doing this for years. It may of looked simple and good to Elizabeth, but will the rest of us (less experienced) to be able to control the Finance Officer (FO) as easy and shut down those extra fees mentioned (and about the FTC, etc). Nice tip about getting the business card right away from the FO. So this part of the purchasing process is kind of scary to me right now. I plan to go for a new Electric vehicle this End of March-April 2023 and have talked to the sales person on my MSRP pricings and what I am looking to get in the vehicle. So Sales is pretty straight forward - (i also have the Salesmans business card). Finance Officer (FO) will be another story. I also plan to pay cash. I have watched several other videos of Kevin Hunter and they are very good. Thank you and take care.

It's easier than you think. Your situation us that you don't want to be "rude". Get over that feeling. Finan manager will stab you in the front and smile to you. When you get to the final stage, let them know you reject all dealer fees and add ons to save your time and his. Then look over the itemized contract and make sure nothing fishy eas added. Its really that simple.
@sarahj4cardsandcrafts2 жыл бұрын
Yes this ⬆️ I’m always afraid of seeming rude but I’m gaining more confidence to stick to my guns watching these type of videos. I tend to be an overly friendly person and people try to bulldoze me because of it. Thank you!
@billeatson61902 жыл бұрын
@@sarahj4cardsandcrafts so Sarah, what you do is practice with a friend and do role play. You can be insistent without being outright rude. You let them know that you are an informed buyer that cant be fooled. Role playing helps.

I appreciate this but you know what this is too much. I have bought 7 new cars in 30 years. A successful sale is when I’m happy, the salesman is happy, the dealer is happy… never had to go through this nonsense… though I appreciate your knowledge, I would just go to another dealer. I’ve always had great salesman and finance officers… but I wish you well whoever watches this video.

@KevinHunter2 жыл бұрын
Nonsense! No dealer fee is mandated by law. Any dealer who told me it was mandated by law would be immediately challenged with "Show me the state regulation that mandates it." There is none. Pure nonsense.
@jeffreysirkin71202 жыл бұрын
if you make threats like that to a dealer they'd just tell you to leave with no car in hand.
@KevinHunter2 жыл бұрын
They don't dispatch an obvious situation that will blow up in their face. It's important to set it up properly, but no dealer wants to be the target of an FTC investigation. Sure, the Finance man could have asked her to leave, but she wouldn't have done so with filing an FTC complaint, and it would have cost him big time. She knew the dealer management or owner wouldn't come bail him out, and if a complaint had been filed, it's likely the dealer would have fired him. He would be the fall guy. That gear turned over in his head as he asked "What do you want me to do?"
