IMPORTANT ABOUT PAYING CASH: if the dealer says if you finance we can give waive the first month payment (e.g., in other words take off an additional $500 or so), take the financing AND THEN PAY OFF the car immediately. That is what I did. I bought 2020 MB GLE. They said take our financing and we will pay first month. I said ok. Then after they paid the first month, I paid off the car. So I got an extra $750 off. Seriously.

@catbirdler3 жыл бұрын
@@kakurerud7516 No! This seems to be a common misconception. The "finance fees" (interest) is the amount you pay ABOVE the base price - the percentage rate of the loan applied to your balance (whatever you owe on the vehicle) and multiplied by however many months you carry the loan. Your total monthly payment is the actual balance PLUS this calculated interest. This is the reason things cost more the longer you take to pay them off, and is one good reason to never tell salespeople that you're financing up front - so they can't offer you a price with the interest payments already "baked in".

Cannot thank you and your team enough!!! Finding your video series saved me a fortune on my recent vehicle. When I walked into the local AutoNation dealership they went straight down the line of every warning you listed on the Sales and Managers I met and then the offer had $400 wheel locks, $400 window tint, and $360 for doc fees. When I asked to have them removed they told me the wheel locks were already installed and part of the vehicle now. After the "Closer" walked into the office and started talking I thanked them for their time and walked out. The dealership I ended up buying from got me a deal that was thousands lower and was zero pressure. I also used your advice buying my new RV where the finance office tried to add 4% to my APR they negotiated for me. Between the truck and the RV, your advice saved me over $15,000 in combined costs. I was giving them the "Forest for the Tree" routine. Finally we got back, the 3rd time, to the car I wanted. "I'm not paying $6000 for this car." We argued for 20 minutes, then I told the car lady: "I will pay only $6000 for that car with all the Fees and Tax, license, everything. That's the only thing I'm paying and not a dollar more!" Having walked from a new Lincoln in Santa Monica because of upsell, I can tell you--there are few times I've ever felt more satisfied than when both the salesman and the general manager were running down the street begging for me to come back. I didn't. Why give these guys my business when the finance director was so willing to squander it in the first place? Bought another Lincoln at a place that wanted what I was willing to pay. Satisfaction. Made me love my car even more.

I did the same thing.. We know the dealer/Finance Mgr, will hold off as long as possible, hoping the buyer will cave.. and if they dont, like I did.. I started to get up and walk.. And like you, got to just outside the door, and they came after me. But, I didn't keep going. They said "Hold on, lets not let this deal slip away" I said "all I want to know, can you get me the car at the agreed upon price, with the fees we talked about taken off. Yes or no?" They hesitated for a second and said yes, even tried to make a little joke.. so I went back in and closed the deal. I didn't need to keep walking to make a point. At that juncture, there is no need for pride to come in. Im at the dealer, I got the price I wanted. Doesn't matter how we connected the dots to get there. So, they "get" my business.. even after all that, sure. They played their hand, I played mine.... and got what I wanted. Why go to another dealer, go through it all again, to maybe get to the point I wanted to get to. If you walk, and they chase, give them 2 seconds to agree... if not.. then keep on a trucking, and dont return. But if the end goal is the car you want at the price you want, and they finally agree, since your still there.. take it. Plus, you have the knowledge they caved to you. Might've taken a bit longer. But you come out with what you want

Many dealers already have the DOC fee pre-printed onto the sales contract form. My solution to this is to insist they reduce the price of the car by an amount equal to what I feel is an overcharge. For example, I'm willing to pay a $99 DOC fee. If the sales contract shows $499 on the DOC fee line I make them take $400 off the previously negotiated price of the car.
@KevinHunter4 жыл бұрын
Printing it on the contract gives that "Permanent" stamp to it, and makes buyers question it less. That doesn't mean you have to pay it. Subtract it from your final price to correct the excessive charge. That's what we did in this role play. The fee still shows up on the contract, but the price was reduced accordingly.

Another tip for cash payers, inquire about financing incentives. I was purchasing new BMW convertibles every couple of years and it wasn't until a couple ago, when I had a new salesperson, that I was informed about BMWs financing incentives. The lowest has been $2,500 and this last car it was $5,000, when combined with a BMW finance loyalty rebate. So, not only do I save on the price of the car, as a "friend and family" discount, save thousands of dollars in taxes by trading in my current car, but then I finance $7,500.00 and get a $5,000 rebate then pay the loan off on my first payment.

Another time I went with my buddy at a VW dealer and they also wanted 500 doc fee. He told them 50 bucks and no more and they literally kicked us out. I couldn’t believe it.

Dealers love to cite state law, but then they break the law with almost everything else they do. The state law has NEVER said that a document fee was mandatory. It's just the great pretenders who state that it does. Doing research on your states document fee legislation is a good idea prior to car shopping. Print out the statute. When a dealer tells you it is the law...you can read it with them, and prove that is a lie. In the event the state law about fees simply says that the dealer must charge everyone the same, I tell them, "You and I both know that it is YOU who pockets that money. Subtract it from the sale price of the car and then put it on the contract so you've complied with state law without taking advantage of me for $xxx dollars." That's my final offer. Some do, some don't, oh well. I've not ever paid their fees.

Best of luck! There are great new and used car deals to be had if you have time to sift through what's available in the car market.

This so sounds like me when I'm buying a car. I love seeing the look on the Finance Manager after saying this.

Hola!! Toyota of Selma is the first dealership...so far. We specified what model and color. We looked at 4...5 cars. Nope... that's not what we want. So he typed up sheet with the MSRP and suggested price. I told the salesman to find the car... we will look at it. He set up another appointment...I said a few things and he asked me...Sir?? Have you sold cars before?? Maybe?? We will see how it goes .

the role play has me thinking -- that whole "exhaustion = caving" goes both ways: i will take *ALL* of their time, and make it mine to use against them.

Thanks for these videos I got the truck I wanted at the price I was comfortable with and. Yes they tried to give me some of these fees. They wanted $488 for a dealer prep fee🤣🤣🤣

I'm assuming you told them they could pound sand on those fees... Lol.

Thanks to your video’s just saved me thousands on the purchase of a used CAR. I found online a used Lexus 450h at a dealership not to far away and the price was in the right ballpark. Went over to the dealership and started looking around the lot and fortunately the never cars had the price and package of what was included, so I found the SUV I was looking far and photographed the sales sticker and a few miner debts/scratches etc. I was then approached by a sales an and took the SUV for a test drive so I told the salesman I was interested and he removed the sales sticker. He imeadiately told me that the price was higher than the sales sticker which I challenged and he agreed he had erred when I showed him the photo. He then took me to the Finance Guy who litterally tried everything you have covered in your videos. After about 30 mins of him trying to include everything, Warranty, years Tax, free Service etc ALL of which were on the sales sticker. I just told him to stop the BS. I will pay the price on the stick less 500 for the debts and scratches to be fixed and showed him the photo. He was physically shocked and then produced his sales document and assumed I would be using credit. I told him NO I will pay cash of 31999 including 12 months Tax, 3 months warranty and 30 days money back guarantee with 5000 mile limit. Draw the payers up, get the vehicles ready or IM leaving. No response so I started walking out and got into the Showroom when he called me back and accepted my offer.

In Missouri we pay the tax, title and registration ourselves at the DMV, so it's even easier to get a clear bottom line!

I’ve been at my dealership for a year and a case like this never happens. So something like this would never ever happen because even the most educated are not like this.

We don't educate car buyers on what happens at 1 dealership. We educate people on what happens at MOST dealerships.

Doc fee is non negotiable. No dealership will change the tags/title, taxes, and doc fee. Unless they try to double charge for doc fee and call it e-filing or processing fee.

In my experience they typically ask early on "Are you paying cash or financing?", like when you're still with sales just looking at cars. Suggestions for answering that (preferably without outright lying)?
@Lucas_McCain4 жыл бұрын
"I'm not going to talk about finances until we've determined if you have the car I want for a price I'm happy with." Then wait until you have a price IN WRITING in your hand and you are in the finance office with it. That's the point where this role play starts off.
@dmitriypetrov6143 жыл бұрын
Often time dealer define that indicated price for vehicle valid only on financing through their dealership. In order to save your time better to ask in advance if price going to be the same for cash buying. Because after all negotiating in the end if dealer will see big lose they will reject the deal after you tell them you paying cash and then you loose hours of your time.

the sad part is when a customer cant afford shit, the salesman will put them in something ,keep them on edge and they'll sign anything to get a car.

The Role Play is the "best way" to learn about these things. Please keep it up!

We know it works. Car Dealers use role play all the time to teach their employees all the nonsense they want them to say... so we use it to help car buyers.

@@KevinHunter Good to know, except I thought "sociopaths" at car dealerships knew how to do this instinctively without the need for roll playing - I stand corrected ;)

Kevin, If I’ve already got the loan thru my Credit Union. Wouldn’t that be the same as telling them. I’m paying Cash. They can’t add to the points of percentage. Because it’s not their loan.
