Not trying to victim blame here, more of a PSA: If you have a garage and you're able to, you really need to use it for its intended purpose. What's more valuable, all of that junk you haven't seen or used in years, or a car that you absolutely need in Los Angeles? Now, if you have a shop or a home gym, or something pretty much permanent like an ADU, that's another story. But keeping your garage looking like a goodwill store while your car lives outside with little protection other than a factory alarm system, is just dumb.

If you recall, there were two (2) vehicles that had their wheels stolen. (Honda & Tesla). They showed the Honda first. I wrote my remark as soon as they mentioned 'Tesla', because of my 'situation awareness'. Knowing what I know about Tesla's camera system, I didn't have to wait for a reporter to inform me. One would naturally think, why didn't the camera capture the thief/thieves? Then, we find out that she either disarmed it (because of her 'false safe neighborhood ideology') or never activated it (which is also dumb, because it's a major selling point). The fact that she said, later in the video that it's 'turned on now' doesn't change what I said. It reinforces it.

Weight of entire car, roughly 9000 lbs, is spread among 4 sets of soda pallets. Each of those pallet is roughly 14-16 inches long, and 7-9 inches wide. I'm surprised it hold, but if you spread the weight out, anything could hold. Same concept as lying on a bed of nails. Notice nobody ever lies down on 1 nail, or less than 10 nails. Or snow shoes, which is much wider than normal shoes, which spreads your weight out over the snow. So you walk on top of the snow.

The catalytic converters for example. I learned when I had a car that had just one wheel stolen 40 years ago that locking lugs are the first thing you get if they don't already come with the car. They can be defeated but it takes a lot of time. So a thief will just move on to the next car. Kind if baffling they didn't even consider it. Safe neighborhood or not. Wheel locking lug nuts won't slow a thief down long if you by the typical after market types. A standard socket can be hammered over them and then spun until the socket and lock heat up, expand, lock together and off comes the security device. There ARE locking lugs that are more difficult... the cone shaped oddity isn't bad. But the best ones look like a normal lugnut because the center just spins freely and the locking teeth are deep down inside the lug well. It's all but impossible to get that type off without resorting to a *LOT* of work - which thieves are not about to do.
