It's one of the most underrated rock bands ever. They're Irish, and Phil Lynott, the wonderful singer, left us too soon. Rip Phil.

From the excellent Bad Reputation album. Led by the late ( & great ) Phil Lynott this is a classic gem 💎 of a song. A standard at any Irish Pub ! 🍀 ☘️

Try the title tune from. "Bad Reputation". Thin Lizzy at their best. Met them in 79. Phil Lynot, the Bassman was the most personable. At 6feet, 4in. A giant of a man.

That could've also been me who suggested the 'Old Grey Whistle Test' stuff, but I meant the song 'Don't Believe A Word' under the name 'Phil Lynott & Friends' , and one of those friends is Gary Moore 😀 Lovely that you two enjoyed this song as much as you did! 😊👍

This song is indeed more poppy. I had completely forgotten it was a song from them! Thin Lizzy live is fantastic, more leaning towards hardrock... but all classics: Got To Give It Up, Sun Goes Down, The Rocker, The Emerald, Cold Sweat. Legendary Gary Moore was a friend of Phil Lynott and off and on a member as well. A legendary song of the two together is "Out in the fields". Thanks for reacting.

Sometimes the opening act would have a sax player they would borrow (like John Earle from the Graham Parker band) but they could just do without sax live.

Thin Lizzy were an amazing band, and this is off of their "Bad Reputation " album which is an absolute banger......I'd recommend listening to "Cowboy Song" ......they were such a good rock band with a distinctive duel guitar sound......it amazes me to think that the USA largely ignored them. Don't believe a word is an essential listen.

Thin Lizzy are a great band. One of their best tracks, and there are so many great ones, is "Roisin Dubh (Black Rose) A Rock Legend" from the Black Rose LP. If you ever get the option of doing OGWT clips, they are usually of a high quality. Sax was by John Helliwell who did a bit of work with Supertramp. Brian Robertson who also played with Motorhead for a bit was on guitar. I think Toni Visconti did some of the Production on this lp (maybe someone can confirm that).

Tony Visconti produced this album. John Helliwell from Supertramp played the saxophone. Scott Gorham of Thin Lizzy was the brother-in -law of Bob C. Benburg from Supertramp, so that was the connection. This song always reminds me a little of Spirits in the Night by Bruce Springsteen, and both Springsteen and Phil Lynott drew heavily on Van Morrison for inspiration in their early days. You could continue exploring this Bad Reputation album to get a rounded picture of the band. Opium Trail is a great up-tempo track with a dark message and some great guitar work. Downtown Sundown is a wistful portrait of city life. Dear Lord is a prayer, and Southbound is a very well written melodic ballad.

good to hear the version with the sax, but usually anything by them is much improved when played live the albums were always too quiet, Rosalie, Still in Love With You, Emerald and Don't Believe a Word are all worth a listen, also Thunder and Lightning from their last album is worth listening to as the album sounded more like one of their live performances, I would rate Phil Lynott as my favourite frontman.

Hope to see you enjoying more Thin Lizzy !!! cheers !

Thin Lizzy are just incredible. This isn't their best by a long way. From the days of Eric Bell to John Sykes via Gary Moore Scott Goram, Brian Robertson, Snowy White, even Midge Ure on guitar & of course Brian Downey on drums & Mr Philip Parris Lynott they rocked until 1983 & their music sounds as good today. You've covered a lot of songs by The Jam & in 1975 The Jam support Thin Lizzy once. It was a very sad day on 4th of Jan 1986 when Phil passed away aged just 36. I have so many Lizzy songs I really like but I think Renegade is really underated & The Sun Goes Down & Got to Give it up are so poiniant.

@@hanierfamily wow....thats right...& isnt that the mark of becoming a fan of a band ? I will say this...(& i am sure every lizzy fan would ageree ) Thin Lizzy are one of those bands that you could drop the needle anywhere in the catologue and be assured that the quality rarely drops . They have that ability to be consistently great . A small handful of tracks over the years i dont 100% love - but even those i dont mind ...... Phil Lynott has one the most identifiable voices - like all the greats do
