I believe that avoiding the materialism trap is crucial for living a more fulfilling and balanced life. Many of us fall into the habit of buying more and more, thinking it will bring happiness or status. However, this often leads to stress and dissatisfaction.
A key part of my minimalist journey has been learning how to be a conscious consumer. Instead of just buying things because they’re on sale or because I see them advertised, I carefully consider if they are really needed. This approach aligns with minimalist habits and helps me keep my home clutter-free.
Minimalism tips often include evaluating the things you don’t buy anymore. For me, this means avoiding items that don’t add real value. It’s about finding joy in less and appreciating what I already have.
In summary, staying away from materialism and embracing a minimalist lifestyle can simplify your life and lead to greater contentment.
Here are seven things I personally do to avoid the materialism trap.

Getting out of that trap now myself this pass year,selling most things that do not give me joy but my goodness does it take all your mental energy and time.I once heard "you spend all your life acquiring things and then you get to the point you can't give them away".I'm almost 50 now and have a beautiful cottage in the countryside but appreciate having my energy to be out in nature💛🌻Good luck everyone 💛

It sounds like you're on a really meaningful journey, finding joy in simplicity and reconnecting with nature 🌿 It takes a lot of strength to let go, but it’s amazing how freeing it can be :) Enjoy your beautiful cottage and the peace that comes with it, it sounds lovely 😇❤

Hi Seve! I never thought about the connection we have to things! What a great idea to identify and then that is the bar that is set before we bring other things into the house!! Seve, I got a job so I'll be headed back to work; all that I've learned these past two months I plan to continue on my Minimalism journey. Our #1 goal is to pay off our debt as soon as possible. You've been instrumental in my transformation this summer!! Someone recently said "Elevate and enjoy what you already have!" I feel much more at peace than I used to when I was spending and over consuming!!

Congratulations on your new job, Tara! It's wonderful to hear how much you've grown on your minimalism journey and how you're applying those lessons to achieve your goals 😊 Good luck with the new chapter in your life! Remember to keep things balanced (starting a new job can require a lot of mental energy) 🌿

Seve, your videos are so uplifting and affirming. It's lovely to see young people leaning in the" less is more "direction. As an oldster, I wish I could go back and tell my young self to be more selective in my purchases and more adventuress in my activities. Hopefully more of our youth will see the wisdom and joy of simplicity.

Same! I think of the money I've wasted on things that I thought I would use more than I did or thought I needed, but didn't. I wish I'd spent that money on trips and experiences with my kids. I'm 57.

As I have said many times before, we have the same mindset. Since I do not know anyone personally who thinks this way, you are so right that it is important to consume content to stay motivated and inspired. That is what I get from you and a few other channels on KZbin. Your channel, however, is my #1 go to. Thank you for being you.

Excellent points! I think the happiest person I ever met was an old woman who lived in an old two room shack (I could set the whole house in my living and dining rooms if my ceiling were higher.) She talked about what good children she had and how much she loved the smell of the clothes when she took them off the clothesline and such things. Anytime I worry about money or material things I think of her.

As you were talking about the connection to things, and if and why they make us happy, I immediately thought of Marie Kondo and the whole "spark joy" requirement she has for keeping things. My best to you, Seve! You are inspiring!
@SunnyKindJourney
@SunnyKindJourney 23 күн бұрын
Thank you :) Yes, that part talks about the same concept she teaches! I didn't want to directly mention the "spark" because for some reason that word doesn't resonate with me as much as "connection" when it comes to what I feel for my possessions. Her books are great though! 😊

You give such beautiful inspiration here. Thank you for your wholesome perspective on life and your openness. It's always such a joy listening to you and get inspired or even more like...support in how im trying to live my life in a way that I'm happy and mentally healthy ❤🌿 I just came back from hiking holidays which always is to me the anti thesis to materialism and all the nature and solitude is so great at reminding me that I already have everything I need with me - good company, nature, a daily goal (reaching my destination of the day) and my legs who carry me. Being grateful and kind in this hectic world really is the most important thing 🌿

Hello Seve, this was the first video I watched from your channel. Very informative. I do have a question on the topic of setting goals. You talk about reaching goals that are in line with your values, and not to achieve something. Can you give some examples? Setting goals is often linked to achieving materials or reaching a result in sport. Thx

Sure! Here are some of my goals for this year 2024: Feel good & inspired while creating content on KZbin - avoid burnout, keep investing my time in people that are close to me, serve people with my time & energy, remember that I’m already there - I've made it 😇 I will achieve nothing material from these, only the feelings of peace and meaning :)

I have a question about social media. I never could maintain being in Instagram for long. I always delete account in just few days because of the negative feeling. But due to my job, hairdressing, it’s common to have a page representing my works and salon. How can I represent my salon without using social media? On one hand, the target audience is great amount on Instagram but at the same time I can’t stand using this app 😢 What are your suggestions?
@SunnyKindJourney

Could it be a possibility to outsource it to someone else? For example to someone living in your neighborhood who is interested in media field? Here in Finland you can get interns from schools to give them work experience doing things like this but not sure if it's possible where you live

At 3:05, Could it be a place to tie up your horse or donkey? But I suppose you wouldn't need that because you could always just use a tree. Anyway, I've seen something similar for tying up horses.

hi how do we limit tv like or say you watching series or so on how do cut down in that area. thanks your content is very helpful .
@SunnyKindJourney
@SunnyKindJourney 16 күн бұрын
First understand why do you want to cut that, what's the benefit you are after. Then set a goal that you think will give you that benefit (very personal but for example reducing that by 50%), and then find an alternative, so something better to do instead (maybe that's even related to your "why"). Then just stay consistent and reflect on how it's impacting your life and change the approach based on your findings if needed :)
