I'm purchasing less clothing. I'm an introvert and hardly go anywhere so having so many clothes is overwhelming and I live in a very cold climate so it's more important to keep off hypothermia and frostbite than looking cute during the winter (I live in Minnesota USA. I think the climate is similar to Siberia). I'm a minimalist in other areas, but my weakness is skincare. Yes, I'm that person with ten cleansers and fourteen toners. I also love my essential oil diffuser, teas and crafting. I'm 53 years old and natural ain't gonna cut it for me. I'm a picky reader too. If I'm not interested in the first two chapters forget it, life is too short. I get most of my ebooks through the library.

When some marketer says ‘it works for everyone’ or ‘one size fits all’, we all want to be part of the group. We don’t want to be the odd man out. The reality is that many of us are an odd man out. We don’t fit what fits others. But that’s ok; for sure there is something somewhere that will work for each of us. We just have to be patient and able to resist our impulses. I’m sorry you have to fight homesickness. What if you didn’t? Why not just go with it, till it passes. What I’m not buying? I think my main area I can work on is buying too much food I don’t eat. I love strawberries. But I hate washing them and slicing them. They sit in my fridge and go bad. I have other things like this. I’m going to resolve to buy less and only buy what I will eat. Thank you Anna for this fun contemplation! Much love to you and Brian. Oh, I’m almost packed! Will be leaving on Jan 3, much later than I thought. But I’m still getting it done. It will never be thus bad again as everything is more organized now. ❤❤❤

I always enjoy hearing other people‘s thought processes when it comes to shopping. My biggest purchasing mistakes this year were made when I shopped to relieve stress , when I bought something because I was influenced by a KZbin video, and when I bought something that was not really what I wanted but close. Settling. I am going to try not to repeat these mistakes this year! Thanks for the thoughtful videos!

I always buy too much in bulk, a mindset I learned as a child from my mother. Too much stuff sits unused now that I'm only one person, and an old one at that. No more buying 2, 3, 4 or more of an item just because it's on sale and I might have a little extra money at the time. Happy Winter Solstice!✨🌿🕯🌞🕯🌿✨

Hi Ana. This video is delightful. I hate sweatpants, as well! I have a habit of buying stuff to make myself feel happier. This has been a very depressing and difficult year for me, too, so I do regret making some purchases… actually they were mainly clothes that looked cooler online than in person, or they wound up not fitting properly. I have made too many purchases like that this year. I, too, am starting a new year with more guidelines about my purchases. I am not a minimalist, and I also want to be relaxed about the way I approach things I buy. I don’t want to get too rigid about my rules, because I have the freedom to break them, as well! Peace to you and Brian.

Thanks for your channel. Love it ❤. In The US we spend so much on gifts during the holiday season when other people can barely buy food because of inflation. Mindfulness about what we bring into our lives is what I’m trying to do. I bought my son experiences instead of things. For my partner I gave him 3 babysitting sessions so he can surf. What I wanted was to go to a used bookstore and find or not a book and have lunch. ❤ sending you and Brian ❤ from San Diego, California.

I struggle with impulsive behavior in nearly every aspect of my life. So I have purchased many items that I don’t need and didn’t even want after watching videos of people who had a lifestyle I thought I wanted in that moment. I’m now purging those from my life and making a do-not-buy list of those items , that stays in my handbag, so if I’m tempted again I can see immediately how it negatively impacted my life and home.

Oh Anna, I can't stand sweatpants or sweatshirts either. I bought wool leggings to wear under my regular pants for that cozy feeling. I'm not buying in 2023 fabric or patterns or notions unless it's necessary to complete an existing project. I've been mostly successful at that this year except for patterns. Styles from the early 1970s are back and I indulged. I definitely have enough for a whole new wardrobe now. No more this next year. Wishing you peace, prosperity, and comfort on the Solstice and the coming year. ❤

It just goes to show that different things work for different people - I love the natural stone deodorant! And, it doesn't work for my daughter, so it seems to be very individual, who it works for. Also, I don't work outside of the house, and my house is minimal. My only child at home is older, etc. So, maybe the natural stone wouldn't have worked for me at a different stage of life.

We don't have to beat ourselves for it, but we can learn from these mistakes. On the other hand, experimenting can also bring us good surprises style-wise or skincare-wise 😊80% of the time I wear/buy the same kind of things and 20% I give myself permission to try something new. Excellent video, Ana, my fried!! Thank you for being vulnerable in order to encourage others. My true regret is buying gifts. Because I’m the world’s worst gift buyer, I buy many random items. Then it takes me an entire year to pay off the debt. 🥺 it’s not that I don’t want to gift items to ppl, I just over-do to compensate for my ignorance. Also, I regret/don’t regret exploding my library. 😐 I read a lot, but I also cherish and read many books (both physical and ebooks). Consequently, I have decided to implement #nobuy2023. I don’t usually spend money on things (except gifts, food and books) because I retired in June this year. So it’s become a matter of necessity.

I wear classic, never went out of style clothing and shoes. Life is simpler now.

Well, I definitely bought a lot of physical books this year. As of this moment I am waiting for maybe another seven books to arrive before the end of the year. I will try not to buy any more until I read at least 20-25 books first. Going forward, I need to utilize the library. I would like to get a book from the library, read it and if I absolutely can't live without it, then I buy a physical copy. The other frustrating thing was buying clothes. I've been on a weight loss journey since last year and lost about 70lbs, so I had to replace most of my wardrobe. And then when I lost more weight the clothes which I just bought a few months ago didn't fit right and I had to replace those again, so I didn't look ridiculous at work. If I worked from home then it would have been a cheaper journey. Thank you so much for another honest and wise video, Ana. ❤ From Minnesota.

I look and feel bad in sweatpants as well-bought a pair a few months ago (should have known better) and every time I try to wear them, I just can't do it! I only get my ebooks (and actually the majority of my books, since it is rare for me to re-read something) from my library-that way, if I don't like them and don't want to finish them, it's guilt-free. I love what you say about not getting trapped by marketing and only purchasing what works for me and not anyone else. As of late I have been working on those things as I can be a shopaholic-it has definitely been a source of entertainment for me in the past, but I am getting much better at only buying what I need-still, I am a work in progress in this area (well, all areas really).

I would say that a regret of mine is a piece of furniture from a local kindergarten. They were selling their old wooden furniture, and I thought: 1. This type of furniture is becoming trendy again and I can get this cool piece cheap. 2. I can upcycle it/make something cool and interesting out of it. I have it standing, taking up room. I can't quite figure out what to creatively do with it, and I don't have the energy for doing the work either. But I did finally learn something, which had cost me a lot of money over the years: Whenever I feel all exited and just neeeeed to buy this thing, and right now, I know to pause and put the idea of the thing away. Sometimes I'll get back to it and consider it more pragmatically, and sometimes I'll think of it, and just know I shouldn't buy it.

Deodorant idea (super effective) : put five teaspoons of baking soda in a glass of water (200ml). If you like, you can add some essential oils, or just leave it plain. Pour in a spray bottle and apply. Works great, no waste, no irritation, no ruined clothes!

i bought tracksuit bottoms because everyone said, you'll love them you'll never wear tailored trousers again. But i don't. People swear that stretchy things like sweatpants or trainers are more comfortable, then say the tailored equivalent is uncomfortable "i had a pair once and they rubbed'. But because i grew up before stretchy everything, i am used to the fact that, like gloves, shoes and tailored trousers and jackets need to fit and be tried on. You need to know your size and not buy what doesn't fit. If it fits, it's actually far more comfortable, because it's like a second skin, it fits perfectly; stretchy rubs but stretches. So now i buy fitted structured shoes and clothes.

I completely agree about the natural deodorant. I’ve tried so many brands and they just don’t work. I just buy Secret when it’s on sale 😊

You have the same problem I do with sweatpants / joggers! I sit in a cross legged position and the knees get so stretched and the bum always sags. that said, I still keep them around as an outer layer if I need to run outside in the cold for anything and they are still used for sleep pants, just not day pants.

Very interesting choices! I echo skin care too.

The skin care problem is real and frustrating. I struggle with it too. I've also making a list of things I won't purchase again. I definitely won't purchase some foods again as although the price is good, the quality is not.

oh yes food I do agree ! And even more now that all the prices have raised so much... easy to make a bad choice thinking it will be OK and then it's not even OK :)

I get books through inter-library loan, and often they take some to get to my local branch. It's frequently the case that by the time I pick them up, I'm no longer interested in reading them. I also buy books and the same thing happens. Once in a while it is money well spent, but just as often I am disappointed.

A striking ecoblunder of mine was buying 8 years ago a tablet which I longed for about a year. When I finally managed to get it from a scholarship, my circimstances changed so I mostly kept with laptop. My prized purchase sits in a gardrobe and I may need it again, but I gotta get rid of pin security (I want to use it on my wifi) and G4 LTE will be shut down eventually.

I am trying to be more mindful of the thinks I am buying. I was always buying on sale and making lot of mistakes. Now I am giving myself more time and ask myself do I really need this? Most of the time is no. Really enjoyed your video. Thank you for sharing your thoughts 💐

Hola Ana! 🤦🏻♀️ Y ahora no sé qué hacer. Siento que tengo que usarlo hasta que se rompa pero no me buen resultado. En fin. Peores cosas hay en la vida 🙂 Nada grave. Mis mejores deseos para el nuevo año. Abrazo

Hi Ana, as always great to see & hear from you. Try mineral salt deodorant. It works!!💕

I stopped using deoderant. I either just wash my armpits at the sink with soap and water if I feel sweaty or I use body powder. In the 1920s they didn't have deodorant and my grandmother used baking soda or baby powder. I got Yardley powder, because it comes in a metal tin that can be recycled.

Hi Anna, I've tried several natural deodorants and most do not work. However, right now I'm using Native stick deodorants and it's working most of the time. But, I do have to pretreat the armpits of my blouse to get the oily and smell out before I wash it. What a pain, but antiperspirants turned the armpits of my white blouses yellow. One of your readers on this feed suggested bakingsoda. I'll try🙂

Oh yes I guess we all do this :) I try to stick to brands and products that I know suits me... if I want to try new things I try some from my beloved brends so the risk is very limited :), no ebooks... I take free books in the bookboxes here... so if I don't like them they were free and I rapidly put them back in another bookbox ahahaha... it's the same with clothes... but I'm lucky I have a stable home and I can keep enough clothes so I'm not in a hurry to buy new ones... sometimes when a piece of clothe suits me I buy it in different colors so I have them for many years... and yes only good brands of leather or fabric shoes... it's a way to save sooo much money and be in lot of feet comfort :) It's all so human in this society of look ahahaha.

so much in agreement with you. i am so fed up of cheap imported rubbish and paying alot of money for basically cheap things, this month i have gone back and forwards with posted items, all gone back and now waiting for refunds, and paying postage twice over, yup well that is not happening no more i will buy local, alot of shops are closing down so we are forced to buy cheap nasty imports that do not fit europian figures and size of feet, its so unfair i feel all our trades people have been well and truly shoved to one side in favour of imports we all know what i mean that break, drop to pieces and guess what have to buy agian the cycle repeats itsself which is what it was meant to do, support local business and buy less imports.

Hello, in 2023 I'm making a conscious effort to not only not buy stuff, but to also pay off my debts and save my money in a savings account. I am very excited. This will also help me focus on keeping things that I do have in good condition.

Oooooooooo the natural deodorant part hit home. I struggle with finding anything natural that actually works. The brand Lumé (I'm located in the u.s.) smells like a bacterial infection 🤢, Tom's of Maine you definitely need to shower on a daily basis and apply more than once during the day, Schmidt's bergamot and lime is the only thing that doesn't mix with body odor and smell really bad, again, you need to wash up on a daily basis for these to "work", which I do not. I refuse to put aluminum in my arm pits. A good friend made homemade deodorant, gave it to me as a gift and it clogged my pores and I had many lumps in my armpits-- I had to go to the doctor 😅

Dear Ana, thank you so much for all the meaningful content you make, I find a lot of value in it. It would be nice if you talked some more about books- I'm reading "To Have or to Be?" now and would like to get more recommendations from you! Sending love from Argentina. 🌼

Rock salt as deodorant. It works very well. The French brand « Kreme « from France is 100% bio a face cream with vitamins, and it works amazingly well for me and it is very affordable.

Can't beat real leather shoes. My personal rule is never be cheap with shoes. My feet are my transportation and I must take care of them. I also agree with sticking to a tried and true ace moisturiser. For body lotion/ hand cream/ foot cream I use baby lotion. I don't buy shower gel or soap...I buy baby shampoo and use it for everything: as face wash and a shower soap. Sweatpants? Love to wear 'em in the house on freezing cold evenings.....but not outside. My only purchase I regret was a series of 6 art lessons with an established painter. $96 wasted. They didn't teach me anything I didn't already know and just led to frustration because the instructor's method clashed with my current skill level. I admit it must be hard tutoring mature students ...we are not as malleable or impressionable as the youngsters!! Happy Winyer Solstice Ana! In Celtic mythology, today the Holly King dies so that the Oak King can rule until the Summer Solstice as the Earth turns its face once again towatd the sun xx

Hey Ana, this video made me chuckle quite a few times. I fully acknowledge how awful sweatpants look on me and still don’t care 😂 If you ever have someone from the states send you and Brian a care package, I recommend Hey Human natural deodorant. The Rosewater and ginger scent is my favorite. I also fall prey since I have gotten older to trying new skincare that ends up being mediocre. But I refuse to take any of it back since it’s wasteful, so I end up using what face cream I don’t like on my feet. My feet don’t discriminate when it comes to creams and will accept anything on them haha.

Hi Ana. Have you tried using a crystal deodorant rock. It’s a natural product, hypoallergenic, scent free, doesn’t stain, is not greasy, is not tested on animals, etc….I’ve been using one and it’s the best. Anyway, I wish you and Brian a very happy and healthy holiday season and may the new year be less stressful for you! P.S. I understand homesickness, after 50 years of living in Australia, I’m still homesick for Serbia/Hungary!🎄☃️❄️🥂🎉🐈⬛❤️
