I´m glad I´m not alone on this. I jumped the ship 1 year ago. I have quit my job because I couldn´t stand my office job anymore. I was getting depressed more and more over every day. I have saved up some cash, bought some gear (and upgraded some old stuff) and now I´m a fulltime photographer and content creator. There is still A LOT I need to learn, but tbh I am so glad I finally switched. I had to do much sooner though. Its a big risk, yes. But I am sick of it to work as a employee. Because now, when I fail, I fail because of my decisions and I can work on it. But I hate it when I fail because of someone else. Now I turned my hobby (photography) to a business and I am working on big projects I aquired. There drawbacks sure. I actually made a video recently if you should turn a hobby into a business. Because you need the right mindset for it. I know many photographers who don´t have the right mindset and fail within the first 2 or 3 years.

I used to call myself a "full stack creator". That's a phrase I heard from Tyler Stalman. It sounded glamorous and I adopted it. Because I could do all the things for clients as a freelancer. But you're right. I didn't get great at everything and the money didn't pay off because of that. So I learned to niche down my services and commit to being a specialist, instead of a generalist. It's hard to decide. But it's in everyone's best interest.

I've watched this a bunch of times already, you know the one thing that sticks with me, especially when I am feeling lazy is when you said "I have never worked as much as I did when I quit my daytime job", that always inspires me and gets me up and working. Thanks Peter!

Phew the more you try to do everything the worse you'll be at one hit hard. I am such a jack of all trades master of none person by default, but I also find it tough because once I get decent at something, I get the itch to learn something new.

Good advice, esp. concentrating on strengths. Sometimes, it takes awhile to discover what u are really best at, sometimes u know right away and sometimes other see talents in u that u don't even recognize yourself. I have a friend here in Fairbanks who just got his PhD in Space Physics. Said it took him seven years. Why seven, took him some time to build confidence in himself. I told him I related to his journey because when I was at CalArts in the seventies, one of my profs said that I had knack for writing & directing and that I should push to do a major project which he named. Well, it wasn't until I went to film school in New York ten years later, that I did find out that my prof was right when I became involved with directing. However, the project my friend had mentioned was gone, it was the Tolkien sagas. So goes, huh? Peter, your advice is solid, Hope others listen. 😎😎

I have that problem, I have my LLC in Poland, providing some services to clients, completely not related with photo and video and I started my small YT channel last year. My problem is that I have to much work with my businness to stay creative and make videos for my YT channel and that makes me feeling bad... I wish I have a possibility to build my YT channel to that level which will allow me to make profit as this passionateme more than current business which I am in :)

I just made the step of becoming selfemployed with my own creative business and I can relate so much with the anxiety and accounting stuff. My regular job as a federal prison officer sort of got me into depression. So my dream and goal is to become successful in my own business to finally get away from it as soon as possible. And just having started sometimes gets me scared if I can really make it facing all the stuff you just mentioned. I don’t want to become famous or rich. I just want to be able to take care of my little family. So thanks for that video. Makes me realize I’m not alone with those fears

Greta advice for anyone starting their own business - doesn't matter what the product or service is. Focus on what you do best - keep the offering narrow and deep; manage expeenses adn be sure they have an ROI, plan on working twice the number of hours that you did in your regular job, study the tax laws and plan accordingly, have a stash of cash for the rainy days. Great stuph Mr. Linkdren!

It’s an interesting dilemma on the “save money before starting your business” point. Because from a logical point of view, that makes sense. But from an emotional point of view, having no safety net and knowing that you have to succeed can provide the extra motivation needed to make it work.

Good stuff Peter you hit home with a lot of real life stuff and everything there that I too have thought about and especially about having a 2nd form of income set up. I have other forms of income so that is definitely a benefit and I see other individuals that have not prepared themselves this way, and then they get going for a month or two, and they just fall flat on their face because the reality of Funds run out or their other stream of income that they had saved up and reality hits, and all the excitement and inertia that they created just comes flat and their KZbin channels or their forms of social media just dribble away to nothing. And every video I watch of yours I do give a thumbs up but I do hear you on that because I have been noticing the same thing. The views are there the watch ours are there, but the thumbs ups are not, and that seems to have changed over the last year and I think my guess is that has something to do with shorts Bringing new viewers to channels as well as more people, being mentally changed because of all the short content in the world from other social media platforms as well that people are just getting into the swipe swipe swipe mode and not listening to the Contant. They’re just quickly hearing it and swiping onto the next, what are your thoughts interested to hear if you haven’t had a chance I appreciate any feedback you have for me on any of my videos. I am a bit more of a Vlogger style. Have a great day.

Everybody is conditioned to think that it is normal to go to school for 10+ years and then make an apprenticeship or university for years without getting any money for it in order to get a job that might be badly paid and work with people you dont like following their Rules. So investing all that time in building your own business without earning big money for some years is a much better Idea.
