Here's one! "Your wig is not the right color! Or right style or length!" Here is the thing, there are times when you can't get a certain color of the wig and some wig makers have to improvise the color based on a manga version. Best example is the wig I use for Dark from DNAngel. I went with a neon purple wig since the store that sold me my wings and wig only had bright purple and there were pics of Dark with lighter purple hair and someone complained it was not the right color. Years later I found one on EBay that was auburn and purple mixed and tried to compare it to the characters and the only character that fits the hair is Dark and a friend of mine pointed out that Yukiru Sugisaki had done manga pics of Dark with auburnish purple hair and remembered the pics and wore the wig and still got crap for it.

Well I know what Mad Max is, most Australians do because the originals are Australian movies. However Fury Road isn't the be all and end all, if you haven't seen Fury Road you won't know who he's dressed as unless he tells you or you guess. Isabella Price or if you're clearly cosplaying something that everybody knows (for example, Mario) and you put in a lot of effort in the costume and someone asks "who are you?" In a snarky voice. That shits annoying. I get it if you're cosplaying with the steampunk genre because it's not always recognizable as to what job/role/whatever you're cosplaying as. For Halloween I spent two weeks making a steampunk dress/overall type of thing and goggles so that I could be a steampunk engineer. I was asked frequently what I was and I didn't mind explaining my costume to them. Everybody loved my costume. I am only 14 and yeah I don't have enough money to actually buy cosplays, which I hate, but I DO have a Heather McNamara cosplay (from Heathers) which I made myself (I'm really proud lmao), but like when I go to comic con I am always so jealous of everyones cosplay! Also just because my cosplay isn't the exact look, people think I'm "geeky enough", like I swear to god I work to get money for cosplays and if I'm being honest if my parents would let me I would DEFINATLY have a Raven cosplay from Teen Titans.

There are so many videos and dress journals on how to make pretty much everything; as well as eBay for used patterns, etc. It's pretty easy to teach yourself how to sew with all the information available nowadays and wigs for cosplay can be extremely cheap on eBay. Everyone has to start somewhere and if your first cosplay isn't perfect it's all good; just keep working on it. It's a lot of fun.

I have a Heather Duke cosplay because my friends and I performed Candy Store (with changed and appropriate lyrics lol) for our school's talent show. I'm 14 and I usually try to save as much money as possible until I find a cosplay that really sticks out to me. I also have a Yuri cosplay from Doki Doki Literature Club (which was expensive) for Halloween but I'm really proud to have in the end even if it took a while to get.

1. I don't understand when they get mad about the "can I touch it?" question. That's what people should do. I'm a cosplayer and I have ask other cosplayer to have a feel of the material on the cosplay. There is nothing bad about asking something. 2. It's ok to ask "who are you dressed up as". To everyone will know everything. Because I know that many people take that as "your cosplay is so bad I can't recognise it". When some people really don't know the character.

Malou Phoenix I've had people ask to play my prop before, which I happily let them. Since it made everyone so happy. Its a ukulele made into an axe bass. A friend if mine Kent me her props, Merida bow and arrows, for a cosplay competition that she wasn't able to enter in because she was a VIP (it was a small con). I find that if it's something that is less durable, then people get protective other it. I also just remembered that a group of us were lent lightsabers because they wanted a picture of Disney princesses holding lightsabers 😂

I have problems with people asking to touch my cosplay and props because most of my props tend to be delicate because I mostly cosplay anime characters and comic book characters with small props and I don't have a sewing machine so everything is sewn by hand which makes it more prone to come apart when touched and messed with repeatable. Plus as a female men come up and ask to touch just so they can grope you sometimes and it's not fun at all

I always think Cosplayers are just the most amazingly creative people I've ever met. The fact they can take this image of a character or make a interpretation of a design to real life is just a level of creativity I can't dream to achieve. I love it. (Also quick edit. I found these two amazing people who cosplayed. as StarScream and Knockout from Transformers Prime. Just blew my mind at how amazing they made these costumes. They were so accurate it was directly out of the show just amazing.)

All of these cosplays are so good, I’m living for the Mad-Eye Also, cosplayers at cons talk about other cosplayers like Pokemon. “OH MY GOD LOOK AT THAT KIRISHIMA!” Basic cosplay rules: 1) Don’t take a picture of a cosplayer without asking! 2) COSTUME DOESN’T EQUAL CONSENT 3) Don’t touch/take stuff without asking It makes me so sad when people are pricks about this. It’s a hobby. It’s so much fun. It’s not harming anyone. It’s like sewing or theatre. It’s a hobby. A rather expensive one, sure, but a wonderful hobby. And escape for many.

My Brother (who's trans) cosplays a lot. Before he transitioned he cosplayed a lot of guys and he's several times been told, "Oh, but you're a girl so you can't cosplay him" and now that he's transitioned whenever he cosplays guys it's fine, but every now and then he'll cosplay a girl he'll hear, "But I thought you were trans? Are you faking it?" which is very not true, he's not faking it. You can cosplay whoever you want no matter your gender identity, race, body shape, it doesn't matter! Just have friends! Be cool!
