Hi tangerines. One simple answer, there are not. The only one that rivals them are in Mexico City, in Zamora (a much newer one), and in Oaxaca. You have to visit San Diego in Morelia and San José. They are gorgeous. Don't forget visiting Patzcuaro an Parangaricutiro (the volcano sight, marvelous.) too. And on your way to CDMX, a must see is the Monarch Sanctuaries around Angangueo and Avandaro and beautiful Valle de Bravo near by. Saludos y suerte.

While you're ih Morelia make sure to take a couple of days to visit Patzcuaro. It's a wonderful small city with two beautiful plazas, an outstanding folklore museum housed in an old Spanish building which is built around/on top of a small pyramid. Read about Vasco de Quiroga, a wonderful story of a Spanish priest who helped save much of Purepecha culture and establish the tradition of specialized handicrafts in villages around much of Michoacan. He's still talked about with great affection and is locally regarded as a saint. For history buffs like you guys it's a wonderful town. Also, don't miss the ruins at Tzintzuntzan, the ceremonial center of the Purepecha culture. It's a slight detour on the way between Patzcuaro and Morelia but not too bad. Purepecha culture was different from the Aztecs and they were never incorporated into the Aztec "empire." There are lots of towns in the area each with its own specialized handicrafts, a legacy of Vasco. The only one we've visited is Santa Clara del Cobre where the really cool copper stuff (including a copper museum) is. The workshop and studio of Abdon Punzo e Hijos on the main street leading into the square, several blocks before the copper museum, has astoundingly beautiful copper work the likes of which I've never seen before. It's at Av. Morelos 449. It was closed when we were there but the guy at the hardware store next door took us around to the side entrance and introduced us to the Maestro. Buen Viaje.

I have some tips for the colectivos or combis that may help you , the gray ones o circuito travels all around the City, if you need to go to the bus station, the zoo or casa de gobierno, just take one of those. The red and brown ones always goes to catedral or centro. If you have a doubt , always ask the chofer like 'vas a....?', he will tell you yes or no, sometimes even they tell you which combi is the right one, i hope this helps, also if you have the chance, i recommend you strongly to eat a esquite , best thing EVER. Send you all a big hug.

By the way, is it common to use the informal verb tense in Morelia like "vas a ..."? That's the way it was in Guadalajara, people use the informal (tú) for almost everything.
@leguar82756 жыл бұрын
@@TangerineTravels I think you can use the formal (va a ...?) or informal (vas a ...?) verb tense as you like. Older people (like me) tend to use more the formal way.
@adrianatorres40036 жыл бұрын
@@TangerineTravels Thats a pretty good question, the way i do it is when im talking to someone i dont know and its older than me then i use the formal way ("disculpe, va a..." or "usted") unless they ask you to drop it ("dime de tu "), but in all the other circunstances, i use the informal way (Its very confusing but you will get the hang of it). I think its very common to use the informal way in Morelia, especially with young people, so go for it. I have another food recomendation (because Morelia has a lot of delicious food that i miss a lot), in boulevard García de Leon theres a place called Los gaspachos del boulevard, they sell gaspachos, its chopped fruit, eat it with miel gaspachera, its soo good.

Some practical suggestions: If you want to visit a nearby pueblo mágico, Patzcuaro is the option, just 40min from Morelia, and from there you can return using the old highway and visit Tzintzuntzan which is a small town with archeological ruins. México city, Guadalajara, Guanajuato, have always been touristic cities, but compared to those cities Morelia has attracted international tourists very recently, that's the reason behind the weird behavior of the people. The people in small towns (pueblos) are much more humble and respectful because their values of family and religion are stronger. Just remember Mexico is a mix of good and bad people, product of decades of economic issues, and we are currently trying to recover and restore the original values of our native cultures. Don't get disappointed, enjoy my country 'cause it's greater than a few asholes, only time will clear them out. Take care!

I also found Morelia to be a beautiful place when I visited in the 80's. And I also found the weather to be colder than elsewhere in the country where I visited. I was there in early January. A friend retired there in the 90's and rented an apartment. He had not been there that long, when he was found murdered in his apartment - a crime which was never to my knowledge, solved. But like you, I also love Mexico, and still believe it to be safer than most places in the U.S. I enjoy your videos about this country. Did you ever do a video on the leaning buildings in Mexico City, leaning due to the city being built in what was formerly a huge lake? That is a phenomenon I have not seen anywhere else in the world. I have a photo showing two churches next to each other in Mexico City, one leaning one direction, and one leaning the other! I spent a good bit of time in Mexico and thoroughly loved the place. Cheers!

14:16 that's because, despite Mexican Spanish being the language of the land, there are regional variations where the local dialect of Spanish was influenced by the indigenous language of the original locals. As a whole, Mexican Spanish is heavily influenced by Nahuatl, the language of the Aztec/Mexica people due to how powerful and influential the Aztec empire was. But if you go south into Yucatan or Chiapas you will still encounter Nahuatl terms, but their regional variant of Mexican Spanish has more Maya influence in it. The same goes for Michoacan where I believe the original local language was Purepecha. That's why throughout Mexico depending on where you go you'll find different names for similar things.
@LaObejaNegra.6 жыл бұрын
It really isn’t a whole different word they use to refer to the platter. It’s a whole different platter actually. Corundas are like tamales but are not. If I’m not mistaken, Michoacán is the only state in México to make corundas which are similar to tamales but are not since they’re wrapped in different leaves, served differently etc. Michoacán has a rich and distinctive gastronomy from the rest of the states, hence why they encountered unknown platters! Fun fact: the gastronomy of Michoacán was the one to make Mexican food an intangible treasure of humanity by the UNESCO!

It's always so interesting to see what foreign people think about this city 🙊 It's amazing for me that you consider combis (or 'colectivos') as something worth of notice. Also, that you think is an affordable city. That speaks volumes about the ecconomic situation of Michoacan, because, knowing a lot of people from other parts of the state, I constantly hear (and confirm myself) how expensive things are in Morelia. The copper they sell at Mercado de dulces I think it's actually from a nearby town called Santa Clara del Cobre. At leats I think so. They still work that metal a lot in there, and they do some really beautiful things. I'd recommend you to take a day trip to look at it if you're still around here. It's even called "a magic town", pueblo mágico. That place is certainly one of the best to get elote! Even some of us, locals, sometimes still wonder at the beautiful sight of all those salsas 💕🙊 I'm surprised and very sad that you had to experience also some of the worst parts of us. We certainly tend to stare a bit to foreign turists. I believe it's not with a bad intention, mostly, but we're still not used to too much diversity, so people with different features always caught our attention. Aaaand... The men staring and the catcalling. Ugh. I wish I could tell you that's unusual and weird and only because you're blonde and for our cultura malinchista blonde equals hot, but saldy that's a thing a lot of morelian women experience everyday too. Whatever you wear, whatever you do. It's a shame you had to live it. I'm really hoping things are slowly changing as we start to notice and complain about it. I'm really hoping you won't have to experience that again the next time you visit (because I hope you will. All and all, it's a beautiful and comfy city to be in 💕)
