We have several local horseback riding trail systems in my area. The trails are open by the cooperation of the land owners. Occasionally, you have a particular landowner who is an asshole and who does really stupid shit - like putting a deadly hazard across a trail they are closing down without every telling anyone they are closing down the trail or putting up a potentially deadly obstacles.

This is the type of stuff that gets landowners sued into oblivion because their lack of due diligence and utter stupidity. Talk about a liability issue. And, such an unmarked and unannounced placement of a potentially deadly obstacle may, and probably does, bring up potentially criminal issues involving the idiot who put up this obstacle without any prior notification.
I understand that the land owner has a right to block off a trail, but for Christ's sake, warn people first before you do it and properly mark the potentially deadly obstacle.
In this instance, the land owner is lucky I was largely unhurt by this improperly marked obstacle he placed in the trail without warning or prior notice. But the person who asked me to document this for their health insurance claim might not be so unwilling to sue for damages.
