Microsoft doesn’t care about user complaints and never has. In fact, I remember that back at the time of Windows ME they used to include a non-disparagement clause in their license agreement to try to prevent users from complaining about their operating system. I don’t see this in their license agreements anymore so I’m guessing that it was probably not enforceable.

Holy moly, I never heard of a non-disparagement clause. LOL. I usually forget how greedy and arrogant they were before they saw serious competition. Now, one can feel the economic pressure they're under. Also, the AI is the hottest trend since, maybe, Win95 days.

@@louf7178 Microsoft is one of the most valuable companies on the planet. What "economic pressure" can they possibly be under right now? Also what "serious competition"? Mac and Linux have been around for decades and still haven't taken down the Microsoft monopoly on the desktop. Sure they do face serious competition in other markets like server operating systems, consoles, AI, cloud services, etc., but on the desktop nobody has been able to take them down.

yep, tried daily driving linux/kde for half a year - had more issues than in 20+ years on windows. that's not even touching games. linux users tend to heavily underestimate lack of functionality and or compatibility. and even if it was 99% it is still a huge jump (or rather drop) from windows' 99.99%. while w10 lasts there's no pragmatic and compelling enough reason to switch, only philosophical ones.

That's what i have been saying all along. But Microsoft won't. They got rid of the Windows 7 start menu with Windows 8 and they kept on changing it there after. For the worse. I now use Linux in which many of the desktop environments do have the Windows 7 style taskbar, start menu and layout. Linux Mint with either the Cinnamon or Mate desktop are some of many. So is kubuntu with it's KDE desktop. It's worth giving them a try. You get all of the software that you use on Windows so you won't miss Windows 11.

Totally agree with everything you’ve said Brian, unfortunately MS don’t give a toss what people think or want and they’ll just keep carrying on in their own sweet way. They must know what the pc community want, they just don’t care about the end user. I recently spent a couple of days trying to install Windows as a local account but everything I tried didn’t work. Luckily I’ve just discovered how to switch from a MS account to a local account so I’m happy now but as you say, why should we have to jump through hoops just to get our pc’s the way we want.

But I know some other features that would also be welcome. Different desktop environments, full compatibility with old Windows and DOS games/software. And I think the best of all is that home users shouldn't have to pay for windows, it should be free, no activation needed, no bloat or other bad stuff, along with all the other things mentioned here, that would be perfect.

Agreed on all counts. I think the LTSC question is the biggest one. A nominally-priced license for LTSC would go a long way toward eliminating the negativity focused on Windows right now, IMHO. For those how understand and care about (a) being the 'product' and (b) getting rid of bloat and unneeded / invasive "features", this would be perfect. Say $50 for the full life cycle of a given version - no telemetry, no invasion of privacy, no constantly breaking my DAW with some update that prevents my Audio Interface from working. I'd pay that. Microsoft would only make money and inspire good will with something like this. The marketing idiots running the company (and too many others) are so focused on creating a social network marketing and targeted advertising platform (read: so focused on the Benjamins) that they're completely missing something that could benefit their brand.

Nice video Brian! I agree with basically everything you mentioned in this video. I think the reason they are forcing Microsoft Accounts on people is to collect your data - Like if you sign in with a MS account during setup, OneDrive is automatically enabled and starts syncing your important folders (Desktop, Documents etc.) and I HATE THAT SO MUCH. Some other things I would like to see changed: 1. Ability to change taskbar positioning and size (without third-party software) - and to make it transparent (like in Windows 10) 2. Access to the old command ribbon in file explorer (without third-party software & registry tweaks) 3. Ability to completely remove the Recommended section in the Windows 11 start menu. 4. Ability to keep using the legacy Control Panel Windows and not be redirected to the Settings app. If I spend more time thinking some other things might come to mind as well but this is it for now, hopefully Microsoft pays some attention to some of these things.

I think Microsoft should bring back the Windows 7 start menu and make it more like Windows 7 but we both know that will never happen. The start menu in Windows 11 is not very good. everything is all over the place and it's very difficult to find anything. The way Windows is now there is simply no option but to leave it and switch to Linux. It's either that or put up with the problems of Windows 11 and there are plenty. Many people stay with windows because they think they won't have the same software on Linux. but you can have Firefox and the same media players and software on Linux. I am not a computer expert but I have been on Linux for 2 years now after my switch from Windows. So if I can do it anybody can do it. I admire that you cont inure to try to help users who want to stay with Windows with your tutorials. Despite that Windows is a failing OS that is now not giving it's users what they want. Yet Microsoft seems determined to bring in more changes that are for the worst in spite of peoples complaints. It's just a situation that windows users cannot win.

After the initial hurdle of installation process on my secondary pc, alot of your videos aswell as other content creators have made the experience alot better overall (all of the policy editor gimmicks and registry stuff) but since my main computer is still running 10 (Home) been holding off a fresh 11 (Pro) install for now. I was initially going to wait until the 24H2 official rollout but maybe I should get it done before then huh? yank the ethernet cable out of the wall do the install proper -> oobe bypass style. If there was anything from my usage of 11 so far I'd have a gripe about is the unnecessary start menu and context menu changes, having the option in the settings area to switch it between the two would be a very smart thing for them to do (not going to hold my breath for them to make it a reality though). Nothing else comes to mind personally I like where it's at and it suits my gaming needs. Cheers. 👍

I've heard so many of these lists, that I can sum it all up into one item: respecting user choice Microsoft doesn't do that. If they did, we wouldn't have such a bad operating system out there labeled as Windows 11. It doesn't matter how good some other features are when it fundamentally fails at the basics of what an operating system is supposed to do. One fundamental function is to let the user do what they need and want to do on their hardware. It is up to the user, not Microsoft, to decide what services they want to use, what software they want to install, if/when they want to install patches and upgrades, etc. Windows 11 fails at this one core function that an operating system is supposed to do which makes Windows 11 a terrible operating system no matter how good it is at all the other features. I agree Linux isn't perfect, but it at least respects user choice. If you download a Windows program on Linux and try to run it in WINE or any other way, Linux will try to do it even if it fails spectacularly at running certain software. It obeys the commands given even if the result isn't good. If you want to replace a file manager, you can do that. If you want to replace a web browser, you can do that. If you want to run a command to delete everything on your system, you can do that. Linux won't be able to run every piece of hardware and software that Windows can, but at least it'll try to do anything you tell it to. Linux has its own list of bugs and other issues, but it's still far better for a lot of people who want an operating system that respects their choices (both good and bad).

The other annoying thing they do is make each new Windows version require newer, faster hardware so eventually you end up having to buy a new computer even though the old one's still working fine. There may well be a technical reason for this, however you can't help thinking Windows and the hardware manufacturers are working hand in hand to keep you perpetually upgrading and spending money.

I have a theory about why Microsoft is heading the way it is. As you know all computing can be broke down into 3 things : Input , Processing, and Output. Currently we are hands on with the input generally using a mouse, keyboard, etc. Attempts to put speech to text or speech to task, have been horrible, so with AI coming out now, it makes sense to see AI as a potential way to take voice input or other biometric input and turn it into real usable input for a computer. If you look at the 'vision' of futuristic computers from comics, novels, movies, etc. the computer is basically this companion that knows you, what food you eat, what you drink, your habits, etc. and you interact with a computer that knows you to do real things you need to do. This has to start somewhere and I think that this is overall vision of Microsoft. Now I don't think that Microsoft is doing this out of the goodness of their heart, they have to make it worthwhile to their investors. It is worth noting that other operating systems often piggyback on the work laid out by other operating systems. Note: If you don't read what I wrote and/or respond rudely I will ignore you and pretend you don't exist as you deserve (Speaking to those who like to comment as if they are off their meds).

I used the taskbar on the side since I learned how to PC, and suddenly, such simple option is no more, because the designer's opinion on how you ought to interact with your PC is now everything, and your convenience is nothing. The apparent lack of concern that Microsoft's operating system division has, for the potential huge increase of "e-waste" is puzzling. Why not produce a free version of Windows 7-2024 that would include all current & future security updates, including browser security updates for Chrome, Firefox, Brave, Edge. The original Windows 7 has quit being able to update any web browser to current versions. Certain minimal hardware requirements would apply, such as: 64-bit CPU, 60 Gb free HD space, 4 Gb system memory. Then older hardware that originally came from the factory with a discontinued operating system could potentially be upgraded to something more secure. Even without the need for TPM 2.0, "secure boot", etc.

I do believe that starting with MS Windows 10, that Microsoft is firmly attached to the concept that we are all cows to be milked for profit to Microsoft. As evidence, any attempt to get rid of the bloatware features will be met with "Installing new features" if you happen to connect that machine to the internet. Reason enough to look for an alternate operating system, not that I want to tell anyone what they ought to run. Instead, I suggest trying out different operation systems until you find something you can live with.

Why all the praise for 7? When 7 came out, it was an undesirable comedown from XP, which is a good, solid USER-FRIENDLY system, (whether supported or unsupported), which I still use beside 10. (I have XP AND 10. XP does things for me that 10 CAN’T.)

For me, Removing the arbitrary hardware requirements for TPM and Secure boot would be a good start. Windows 11 LTSC doesn't require that stuff. So to me, that proves it isn't necessary to run the OS. If it's needed for certain features, then Microsoft should instead just tell the user "If you want X features you need Y prerequisites" But don't make that a requirement for even installing the OS in the first place. That's dumb. Also i don't like the fact One drive is now syncing folders out of the box by default. I don't like Bitlocker being turned on by default. And i certainly don't like Recall. Although Microsoft is starting to listen to the criticism on that one, But i still don't trust a company that thought that was a good idea in the first place. I think the problem here isn't so much Windows, as it is Microsoft being grossly out of touch with it's user base. They are worried more about their bottom line, and what new technologies they can showcase, than they are their own users. I think that's what the actual problem is here.

Honestly every anti user thing Microsoft do makes me want to switch to Linux even more and i thing i might end up on Linux eventually. Pretty much everything i need to do Linux can do it although im still concerned about drivers and their feature support especially for GPUs. I have heard that quite a few driver features dont work properly on Linux. Not sure about specifics but apparently its something along the line of AMDs Fluid Motion Frames or Anti-Lag feature. I know AMD specifically has some drivers for Linux but i havent got there yet and i dont know how functional it is. Was thinking about trying Linux Mint Cinnamon so i made bootable USB but havent yet go around to install it and try it. Was gonna try it on my spare notebook i got from someone as scrap. When someone around here throws away pc or notebook i usually tell them to give it to me for parts and i have managed to make couple of them to work but its usually unuseable due to damaged motherboard. Eventually ended up putting Windows X Lite Optimum 10 on the notebook and it works fairly well but its not exactly where i would be comfortable with it. Its only in english and language packs translate only about half of the system and i think its bugging out. Still its installation size is only about 4GB so thats a win. If i knew that car diagnostics software i use would work on Linux i would try it but something tells me it wont work since its one of those programs like Adobe. Too expensive to rent and made only for Windows but its just on spare hardware, not main rig i use most of the time.

Correct me if I am wrong, you can keep harping the bad things about Win11, but as far as MS EULA is concerned, even though you purchased a genuine Win 11 key for the OS, you DON'T own the OS, MS is entitled to change whatever they see fit. For me, I bought a License key and testing Win 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC, if everything is working fine, I just move on, because life is too short worrying about the bloatware + Co-pilot.

MS is going to continue to be MS, so just go to another platform. Yes, your suggestions are great and needed but MS has their own agenda. I currently use Windows on 2 of my computers but will be switching to another platform on one in the very near future. I would switch both but one of my machines is new with a 5 year warranty, ergo I will leave it alone for now and just implement programs that reduce telemetry, disable bit locker, co-pilot, and any installed forms of AI. Since I don't use the cloud, one drive, or need any form of AI and have external hard drives to backup my computers, I will just move to another platform and just continue to stifle most telemetry attempts. I am a law biding citizen who doesn't like entities, selling my private information, or holding copies of my hard drive without my permission ergo the issue with MS. MS is going to continue to be MS and I think they have great products and I realize AI is very useful but I don't agree with their materials and methods. LAST OPEN QUESTION FOR MS: If you really care about your customers, why not offer a windows version of Windows 11 LTS that is NOT CLOUD BASED, DOESN'T HAVE ONE DRIVE, NO RECALL OR ANY FORM OF AI, with NO BITLOCKER ENCRYPTION? Many elderly customers would really appreciate it! This will be my last post saying anything negative regarding MS, as I am just going to MOVE ON AS THEY WILL ALSO!

I wasn't a big fan of Linux, I was fourced to take anouther look and although Mint is by far the best I have used I still come back to Windows11 it's just more convenient it's comfortable and a lot of programs people use on Windows will not work on Linux, but Windows is buggy and intrusive and I dislike everything others do. The new Mint is as close to Windows OP that I have used Mint 21.3, I'm not pushing Linux if you're not comfortable with Linux then stay on Windows it is a lot better. I use both Windows and Linux, although Linux has come a long way Windows is much easier to use.

Nothing will make Windows good again. They are relying on things like Co-Pilot, Recall and blocking local accounts to sign in to Microscam accounts. Since Windows ME, that I called More Errors, they have more disc space needed to install Windows onto the Desktop/Laptop PC. If all that was removed then Windows would take about 5GB to install on a PC, that's the same as some Linux Distro's. Microscam are hell bent on getting everything they can off the user PC that they have so much telemetry that Windows is virtually Malware.

I would install Windows 11 if they made it friendlier for those using the mouse. With Windows 10 things got spread out for tablets. I hate having to go through nested menus. An example of how silly it is, Power & sleep. Your choices are 1 minute, 2, 3, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 45, 1 hour, 2, 3, 4, 5, and Never. I wonder who the idiot is who designed this so you have to scroll down just one more line to get from 1 minute to Never. Why can't they just make that menu field one line larger? Another that would get me to switch to Windows 11 is when you open an app or window it would find an empty spot on the Desktop. Right now it just puts it where it was last or some default.
