Fantastic video and list. I often (thankfully less these days) get bouts of depression, a lot of things you said I've done in the past and have helped massively. I used to use the Samaritans, although I would never talk. Sounds strange but I would ring and just listen. More often then not the person on the phone would realise that I just needed to hear a friendly voice but wasn't in a position to talk. One man just chatted away for a couple of hours. He helped me more than he'll ever know.

Thanks so much for sharing this Kelly-Ann, loads of great suggestions! Whenever the clouds come over for me I forget so many things that help, so this time I'm writing a big old list with what has helped so far and lots of your tips that I can keep in my planner so I always have it closeby. Funnily enough, making a list was one of your suggestions which I did by accident and it has been helpful to focus on! Big love and gratitude for the gold you put out always

I am most terrificly blown away by the shier inspiration, positivity and fantastic ideas big and small of this list and video. For a long time I have suffered from severe psychotic deppression and still do. And I dare say, that NO OTHER of many reasorces I tried to find and implement into my life have been... so uplifting and joyful as yours. I am eternaly grateful for your good will and intetion to help others. You mention such tiny but powerful things into your list that, I actraly feel ready, finnaly, to take my life into my own hands. Finding Wicca and Magick in my life gave me such a powerful reason to live. You are utterly beautiful inside and out and thank you so much for everything. Blessed be.

Chanting has been so influential for me. I find the most powerful chants have been ones that I've created for myself. Usually just a series of words that I "need" at the time. I have a small collection of prayer beads each made from different stones, they're really helpful. Lately, when I'm feeling overwhelmed, I read a chapter from Pema Chodron's book Comfortable with Uncertainty. Also, Adrienne is a GREAT yoga teacher. I started with her free videos on here, and now I'm a yoga teacher myself!

Dear Kelly, your list was amazing. I lost my grandma (she was my best friend, my mum, my confidante, my teacher of all things spiritual, the one person in my family that didnt look at me as the black sheep, regardless of what fuck up I may have done that particular time....she was everything to me) on Tuesday morning. I was reading from the Kuan Yin Oracle deck for her and as the deck was brand new to me (but one of Grandma's favourite deities) so I had placed her hands on the deck and shuffled them, placed her hands back on the deck and asked her what she wanted to tell me. She was unconscious and wasnt going to regain consciousness but I KNOW that my grandpa was there and I KNOW that Grandma could hear me. She took her final breath at 12:22a.m. on the 27th of February, 2017 while I was holding her hand and reading the final sentence of the first card. I suffer from depression and anxiety (as well as a chronic spinal condition) and all I have done is bomb myself up on pills to make me sleep so I dont have to be awake and thinking about how sad and heartbroken I am. Tonight, I finally allowed myself to grieve. I have not stopped crying. When I first found your channel, I binge watched every episode and then made sure I received ALL notifications....after having my teary, I opened KZbin and got your notification for the video after this one....the one you felt "weird" doing....however, as usual, it was an awesome vid and you rocked it, like you always do. Then this one came up after.....it was absolutely perfect. This is, by far, the hardest thing I have ever had to experience and at 42, considering my life and what I have been through, that speaks volumes. I very rarely comment on KZbin because I hate coming across as some kind of obsessed stalker, fan girl (!) but I have to admit, I do adore you and follow you on Instagram and Facebook. I just printed out the list and I am going to stick it next to my bed to help me get through the next chapter of my journey. Thank you for being so real. I respect and appreciate that in people and if you read this comment, thank you for taking some time out of your day to read what I wrote. I have a very limited (almost none) support network so writing this was therapeutic even if it gets lost in the nether regions of cyber space! Blessed Be )0(

@@katefensck696 thank you. I only now received a notification that you replied and as I read my original comment, I realised how poorly written it was with unfinished sentences and can clearly see that I didn't have a lot of clarity at the time, so I appreciate that you took the time to read my jumbled mess. Time heals and I still miss my grandma every single day but she sent me the gift of my granddaughter, Paisley who is the only one in our family with the brilliant blue eyes of my grandma and they never turned more greenish grey like everyone else's. I have a connection to her that I don't have with my other 3 grandchildren who I love and adore very, very much still, but I just have a different connection with Paisley. She came into my life at a time when I needed my grandma more than ever and without going into a very long story of all the reasons why I believe that Grandma had a hand in it, all I will say is that we didn't expect that pregnancy to come to fruition but it did and Paisley arrived and she has been a part of my every day life and many overnight stays for almost 18months now. I can honestly say that she saved me and in some way, I know that was my grandma's doing. 🥰 Thank you for being a random stranger just wanting to reach out with a little kindness. It made my day and I truly appreciate you. 💗

Brilliant video! Moving around can be so good, when I’m feeling low (particularly if my son is being tricky too and in a bit of a funk) wee turn the music right up and dance and sing. It really release the crap and builds some positivity. Yes to quotes too! I have a whole wall of my house full of them (might be a little obsessed). I also have one stuck on my mirror in the hall so as I walk past feeling gloomy it gives me a kick to pick myself up. I do the book thing too - did you read cosmic cousin as a child? So glad I’m not the only one who struggles with messaging etc, it can be so overwhelming. And side note: im love with the pukka three cinnamon tea, whenever I’m down it warms my cockles :-) crikey, sorry, I always have so much to say after watching your videos!

It's a little eerie how your videos arrive with advice just when I really need it! XD Having an argument over an important health topic with the hubby and trying to follow the game plan he and I put together with the help of my therapist a few weeks ago. Instead of being codependent and needy while he seriously needs time to understand his own emotions while we now wait for test results, I'm trying to self-soothe and care for myself so I don't get caught in a downward thought spiral that drags us both down further. It can be hard to do in practice, but I need these reminders to do so and to do so consciously. Especially right now. Seriously thank you! I've been planning to learn the Chowktaw and Cherokee languages as a way to honor my Papaw(grandfather) and his ancestors and bought a binder and study supplies to encourage myself to sit down and learn about that and other topics of interest in an organized way. I just need to sit down and do the work. I'm going to use your tips to get started though! Honestly, A LOT of your advice from today's video is going to be put into practice. :) I've been curating my phone(email, calandar, tasks lists, and notes were all cleaned up and all the time-sucking attention stealing apps, including my favorite web browser was removed.) just this week to be a place of focus and real content. I still need to go through social media and declutter that though. So that's next on the list! Also, I use playlists the same way! I have Spotify playlists for everything. From qualities I want to strengthen within myself, emotions, specific ceremonies I'm working on, to the chapters and characters of Spring Warriors a soft-dystopian futuristic fantasy webcomic I'm drawing and developing at the moment. Phonomancy has been incredibly and weirdly helpful in processing my own thoughts sometimes and lately, songs on the Spotify pop up that describes exactly how I feel right after I have the thought. Spotify algorithms make for interesting synchronicities sometimes. X P

Hi Kelly-Ann, I just love your messages, enthusiasm and your videos have been the catalyst to develop so many ideas. As an INTP, it's very rare to find an ENTP in this community. There are a lot of (very refreshing) ISFPs. I love watching them too, though usually as an outsider. I hope you don't mind me giving some minor feedback (and it could be how I'm wired). I need to watch your videos in segments, because the lack of pauses gives me anxiety! It's so many ideas in such a short space of time. You're one of the few KZbinrs I slow down, but 0.75x is too slow and makes your voice sound funny. I feel like edits which cut out natural pauses may work for short attention spans, basic content, and shorter videos, but your videos contain a lot of good content, and are quite lengthy. Here's to kitty videos. May the paws be with you. 🐾 #sorrynotsorry

Excellent video. Thank you Kelly-Ann. I added the video to my KZbin favorites and copied the list to my Google docs to review next time I am looking to improve my mood. I was reading yesterday in the New York Times an article titled, “U.K. Appoints a Minister for Loneliness”, which I thought was a most excellent idea. I think you should go to work for them - I’m sure they would benefit from your insights! I’ll throw a couple of additional ideas out there. If you are light sensitive, in addition to getting out into the sunlight, full spectrum light boxes can be helpful, especially in the winter. If you are a tea drinker, a blend with Saint John’s wort can be helpful for depression. I like Yogi “Blues Away” tea. If you have physical limitations but would like to follow Kelly-Ann’s suggestion of using free exercise videos, search for seated aerobics. It’s more challenging than it sounds. I’m not struggling with depression at the moment but I’m going to give the Astral Altar building a try today anyway.

Stayin Alive (Bee Gees), Hot Stuff (Donna Summer), Cake By the Ocean (DNCE). Probably others I just can't think of at the moment. Seventies disco is the best music for getting out of a funk (pun intended!). Play That Funky Music White Boy works great. Also blues music in general is pretty cathartic, since it's soooo down in the dumps it can actually pull you out of the dumps. I wish I could find the old blues mix tape my brother's pal gave me when I was in high school. It was great for feeling better.

Can you consider a video on procrastination and depression? I'll literally be frozen for days, then get furious with myself for acting so childishly, then try to get everything I've been putting off done, then get upset because I didn't get everything done instead of being satisfied with what I've accomplished. I would add to the list to spend the whole day in bed reading except for getting food and such! Cozy books, lifestyle books, witchy book, self-care books, classics, horror, historical romance, whatever! Personally I lately have been avoiding Sci-Fi because I believe they now have more of a negative effect than horror does! lol I would also add to the list to spend the whole day knitting or crocheting, cross stitching and embroidery, spinning wool, weaving, drawing, painting. Any one of these things all day! Another thing to do all day would be to spend allll day outside riding a bike, having lunch, reading or knitting under a tree. I like playing old vintage video games every now and then because it isn't something I do normally so it's a new, fun and engrossing activity I can get into that has lifted my energies. In the past I have also switched anything I watched on tv to comedy or light hearted and funny cartoons/anime. Who doesn't love one of Studio Ghibili's more uplifting and cozy animes on a low day or night such Totoro or Spirited Away! I also did something different once. I had a great bath of whatever I had put into it, I had some dark chocolate, whiskey and watched an 80s movie while in the bath. It was fun! I have read in the tub but I don't want to read in the tub so much depending on the size of the book. So I would like to get one of those bath caddies where it holds your book for you as well as a drink or candle. I have always gotten a lot out of putting interesting outfits together and putting on make up. And other than all of that to feel better at times I have simply laid down in a dark room. Self care is always important but sometimes it's especially called for!

Awesome tips!.... Another tip i have is write a letter to yourself. But you have to write that letter when your not feeling that black mood. Remind yourself of all the good in your life and the things you enjoy doing or little things that make you happy. Because when you feel like shit you hate everything that you love. ..or just remind yourself that this will pass, it always does..."you will be happy again"...
