You'll find frugality, even among Americans. Adding water to the shampoo bottle, adding water to the jar of spaghetti sauce to make sure we get every last bit, refurbishing & repurposing old furniture, these are things we do. I have a sister who will put Ziploc baggies in the dishwasher & use them many times before throwing them away. Of course, we were raised in West Virginia, one of the poorest areas of the US. With the way the value of money keeps dropping, it is a superpower to be able to spot ways to save a buck.

Ah! All is pretty much the same for me!! But, here is an Additional Great Suggestion! Shake at Least a couple of ounces or so more of Olive Oil into the just-emptied jar of pasta sauce, and add this to your pot of heating sauce, FIRST!! And THEN, use water, in order to get all/any of that residual, yet deliciously flavored Olive Oil, to thin the sauce as desired, rather than only just tap or well water, in order to alleviate any bad taste from the added water!! The Olive Oil will Surely Add to the Flavor!! And be sure to Add Spices & Seasonings (oregano, garlic, onion, pepper flakes, salt, pepper, etc.) also!! Bon Appétit! And Enjoy!!🤤

My Filipina wife passed away 16 months ago. Married 13 years. She always confused genders when talking because in their language there is no he or she. It's gender neutral. So when my wife was telling a story she would be talking about a 'he' and then say, 'she' later on. I'd get confused and have to ask her to clarify if she's talking about a man or a woman.

Pea, great video. I’ve been with my Filipina for over 20 years and she always gets car sick but she blames it on my driving. Now I know, thanks so much! You hit the nail on the head with the other “things” Thanks for sharing.

Think a couple of people have mentioned this, but I've done business all over Latin and South America, and it is almost shocking how much the same so many of the characteristic you describe are. The more I travel, the more I listen, the more friends I have all over this beautiful blue planet, the more I understand how many cultures have independently developed surprisingly similar approaches to life. Kinda cool, "if you think about it". 😂

Hi Pea! I love your After Dark episode. I agree with you that this motif will offer a nice change in format for certain future episodes. It's worthwhile continuing. I notice some of the Filipina habits that you described - such as watering down Shampoo and leaving ketchup and mayonnaise unrefrigerated - are also practiced among Mexican women in Mexico. I observed these habits when I lived in Mexico several years until relocating stateside last October. I wonder if such habits are commonplace in former Spanish colonies, or in poor countries in general. -from Thomas Lincoln Pilling

Lol yeah water in the soap bottle is also something my family often does. Also the lotion I buy is kinda spendy so when it won't pump anymore out I cut the bottle in half to scoop out the rest by hand as needed and use cling wrap or a baggie to cover the remainder in the bottle. This gets me another dozen or more applications before needing to re supply. Waste not want not! 😅

I love the frugal nature. We were pretty dirt poor whe. I was a kid and we would add a little water to the ketchup, laundry soap, and scrape all the toothpaste out. And leftovers were a prize. Just beautifully not wasteful.

2017 i first visited the Philippines. I fell in love with the country. Dumaguette is where I always stay. Valencia or twin lakes is where I want to retire to. Great people and I'd recommend the Philippines to anyone. Simply an amazing group of people. Extremely family oriented. Love waking the the traffic sound and smell of bread baking downtown.

Hey I'm a white guy in America who does the water in the shampoo bottle thing too lol. Same for body wash and dish soap is always cut with water anyway. I also turn the bottles in the fridge, like ranch and mustard, upside down when they get low. Why waste it?
