I had a Bengal for 19 years. She was the sweetest, most devoted and most beautiful cat you have ever seen. I have always had cats but dealing with Shundor (Beauty in Bengali) was a learning experience for us both. Bengals are insatiably curious and will poke their nose into any new thing so you have to be a little careful about what you leave lying around. They also require more stimulation than most domestic breeds so you always need to have toys around and lots of interactive play time. Two caveats to owning a Bengal, (actually they believe they own you); they have very long back legs and are incredible jumpers. Shundor could jump from the floor to the top of my 4 1/2 foot dresser without even thinking about it, then when they get up there they are annoyed that it isn't a nice place to sleep because its too crowded so they will push everything off until they are comfy. Second they are incredibly vocal. They talk all the time! They are really funny since it is fairly easy to see what they are calling about. Food is obvious, but Shundor used to get up on the bed and imperiously demand that it was time for me to come to bed with her because she was sleepy. They also have a kind of continuous chirp or ''ack ack ack" going up and down scales. But, they are loud! If your Bengal wants something it is best to obey immediately. To wrap up, she was the best cat I ever had and I still miss her 15 years after her passing.

You should always get 2 Bengals, if there isn't any other active cat breed in your house already. Bengals are extremely social & should never be kept solitary, meaning without other cats with similar character. (Except you let your Bengal roam free outdoors, so it can find other cats to be with on its own. So without leash etc, like a real outdoor cat.) I have a Bengal, a Siamese & Burmese...and my Bengal loves her 2 buddies & could never be without them. She loves going on walks with her cat family as well. Keeping a Bengal solitary isn't species/breed appropriate.

Our bengal is 3 years old now. Our experience is different from yours: Our bengal is a very low maintenance cat. We provide her sufficient dry food during the day (she won't eat all in 1 time but take small portions during the day) and at exactly 730pm we give her 1 small can of wet food. Works perfectly! And she knows exactly when it's 730 :) She will initiate play like a dog, walking around with her favorite toy in her mouth dropping it at whoever is at home (including my laptop keyboard) expecting to be entertained. If nobody responds she'll retreat observing our family members from the top of the cupboard until she's pretty confident she can get her playtime with one of us. She is incredibly curious, following whoever is active in the house. Definitely does not appreciate sitting on ones lap or even being cuddled. Most bengals supposedly like water/getting in the shower; she's not aware of that. We too take her sometimes for a walk but she won't walk/want to go somewhere like a dog. You'll spend 30 minutes seeing her go in circles/doing cat-stuff. Our cat won't walk for more than 50 meter so we always have the carry case at hand in case she won't go anywhere anymore. In our experience normal cats become lap-cats/sleep 18 hours a day when maturing. Bengals stay active. Ours is absolutely fantastic; she's often the center of attention and hardly sleeps daytime (sleeping a solid 8 to 10 hours at night) But make sure you are consistent with them; e.g. on the dining table is a no-no. That meant for a few weeks we had to push her off until she got it. They are clever, if you are not consistent they will seem uncontrollably. By the way; we have 1 only and no other pets which works fine. Two probably would be better but we prefer 1 only. Thx for the video! You will enjoy Kona for many years to come, I'm sure!

Is this still happening? They will hide and attempt to attack your feet. As a kitten, you are their playtoy. Mine also did that with our adult Siamese. It went on for a few months, then that issue went away. They love to smell your feet after a shower. Let them sniff away, but tell them firmly NO, or use a squirt spray if they decide to get agressive. They will learn. Consider having your vet install nail caps if the clawing is too much. The caps work great and stay on about a month.

A bengal kitten is a cross between a Tasmanian Devil and Dennis the Menace, with a bit of snuggly cat thrown in to prevent murder of the spotted critter. Also, I found puzzles worked great for mine, he hated the laser pointer. I grabbed some shiny coins, put them into a clear bottle. He spent almost half an hour opening it up. It is unlikely that she would get stuck in a tree. They are some of the fastest and most agile climbers in the feline family. Mine made it more than two stories up a tree after he saw a dog that scared him in about 12 seconds. He stayed up there a while until the dog left then climbed down. They have claws that are more specialized for climbing than other cats.

You guys are amazing cat companions! It's comforting to see well-treated happy cats receiving plenty of care, empathy, and environmental enrichment. Cats come in different levels of care-- beginner, advanced, and expert which depends on their breed, background (socialized, stray, feral, abused), temPURRment (mild or spicy), and health (healthy, ill, disabled, etc.). Bengal kittens are definitely advanced to expert, depending on how well socialized they are. But you guys have everything covered! If litterbox use ever becomes a problem in the future, open litterboxes are are more attractive to kitties (especially if they are dealing with health/stress issues). Awww she’s so cuteeee 🥰 I have a lot of respect & love for Bengal kitties since I adopted one inadvertently from the humane society. They said he was, “a boy tabby cat, great with dogs, cats, children, and babies.” Not exactly true lol. Anyway… Come to find out, Toaster Buns is a Bengal!! Mystery solved! That explained a lot. It took 4 months before he could be trusted alone with the other animals, but now they tolerate one another. Except the neighbor’s chickens, more on that in a moment. I live in rural Indiana (where Bengal kitties are illegal 😡 ), Toasty gets to wander the woods, “fish” at the creek, and catch rodents til his little heart is content. He’s been the absolute BEST “mouser” I’ve ever had. His intelligence and athleticism is, without a doubt, unparalleled compared to the other cats and dogs I’ve ever had. He is so good at getting rid of pest animals/rodents that he’s earned the nickname, “Murder Mittens.” He has a territory of TWO miles!! that I’m positive of. And I know that because that previous neighbor with the chickens… you get the idea. He patrols in sections each day, it’s interesting to see. But he inspects anything out of place since his last patrol. Just so cool. He’s not as gentle and affectionate as my other cats, but he sleeps with me every night. In fact, he will guard my bed and if any of the other animals try to come up he runs them off (he’s still learning, I think he had a rough start). Also, God help any intruder. He has a girl orange kitty named George who just gets him. She may even feel a bit maternal towards him. It’s cute. I hope I can give toaster buns the life and peace he deserves. He’s certainly earned it. I’m so glad to see y’all enjoying your kitty and appreciating and even encouraging her to express her unique qualities and personality. She will be a loyal cat, perhaps sometimes to a fault 😬 You’ve been Blessed! ✨ 🩶 ✨

Thanks for this wonderful Video, I am a lucky owner of 2 Bengals too. But in my experience they don't get less active. and about the dry food....till now every vet I asked always told me that Bengals must never eat dry food. They are as close to a wild animal as a house cat can be and in the wild they hunt and eat fresh wet meat, never dried food.
@cheallaigh Жыл бұрын
the main issue with dry food is digestive problems, cats can easily get constipated as they typically don't drink as often as other animals, usually they would naturally get most of their liquid needs via hunting. so, that's why isn't really not recommended or at the least a combo. also, cats will avoid water more if it's placed near their food, it's an instinctive reaction.

6 months into living with our now 9 month bengal, the energy isnt going anywhere. 5 hours play it took one day. The high places we built he is now bored of. I beginning to think constant innovation and suprise is the norm not just the kitten phase. The repertoire of sounds, desires, frustrations, joys grow everyday.

You guys should consider putting up a few shelves so that they can wander around without ever touching the floor; the height gives her ownership and let's her get her energy out all by herself (I would start by putting them next to your diy shelf)

Liked to have one but so expensive so i ended up with one being bengal/raggdoll and she is so smart and looks like a bengal. She is out everyday here in the swedish countryside except when it’s realy cold as her fur is thin and silky. She loves gold jewelry and sheck them out even with her teeth. If i faking to be asleep she pulls my earrings (hoops) until i wake up and then she throws herself tightly against my body. Then i tell her i love her and she answers right back- she is so lovely, intelligent and talkative ❤

Hi my name is Kathy. I am a professional pet sitter. I had a beautiful cat for almost 19 years. Because I didn't know any better I raised her on dry food. As she got older she began to gain weight, and eventually got diabetes. I began to do a lot of research when I became a pet sitter and I sure wish someone had told me what I know now!! Cats are carnivores and there shouldn't even be a dry food industry for cats!!! They get all the moisture and protein that they need from wet food. Of course it has to be a good quality wet food as there is a lot of garbage wet foods on the market for cats. Switching your cat to a good quality wet food will make all the difference in their lives. They will be so much healthier, not put on so much weight. Usually only one can a day at the most. I want so much to be a big help to cats and owners!!! All the best.

Just the tip for general cat play: Laser first, real toys last. This way they can get the "killing satisfaction" after chasing for so long. Some cats tend to redirect this need elsewhere otherwise.

Our bengal is seven years old. We live in the countryside of the netherlands. He's an outdoor cat. He owns the neighbourhood, but is the most gentle cat inside. Always wants to sleep on our laps. Nobody is able to approach him outside. He also is very vocal. He won't shut up.

A few other tips. When getting a new kitten use the Same litter the breeder used initially until she's comfortable with her new environment. Then you can try to change it to something else. Also, if you have high shag carpeting, they may think it's one huge litter box in a new environment, so that could be an issue . Also, they will eventually learn their name and will ALWAYS respond to you when called (when older) so it's important you create that name bond, just in case they get loose outside. You associate their name with playtime!! And IF they get loose outside, always carry a round toy with a bell that you can toss. They will ALWAYS chase it into an area thus allowing you to pick them up. Never chase them because they love to play hide and seek!! Mine got outside as a kitten and I freaked. I got one of her ball toys with a bell, opened the garage door, called her name and threw it in. She then ran back into the garage lickety split, chasing it! Also, they love windows. My Bengal has a chair positioned next to a set of patio doors so she can nap with one eye watching the activity in the front of the house. This is her Favorite spot. If you desire to have them in your lap, sit in their favorite chair and place them in your lap and they will be more than happy to take a nap with you. If you haul them away from their favorite chair to another part of the room, that doesn't work! They are Very territorial and claim furniture and spaces as their own spaces. They don't mind sharing their spaces with their masters, but not with other pets you may have unless they can have their private corner. Also as a kitten expect them to balance on the top of curtain rods. I called mine the little inspector. They want to inspect everything and every corner of your house. And yes, they NEED their playtime on a set schedule. Ours has 3 meals per day. 9AM, 5PM and Midnight with chrunchy treats at 2PM and 10PM which works well for us. They are SO much fun!

Congrats on your bengal! My kitten Benji would run and hide during the first 2 weeks. However, he could not resist the toys! He only accepts getting pet when he's sleepy. The 10% of the time he accepts the petting and purrs washes away the crazy amounts of playing we had to do. He will be 5 months in 3 days and lately I've noticed he started approaching me and rubbing himself on my hands and legs. You might just need to wait. It is definitely very discouraging when they lay down and sit comfortably, only to move when you pet for 1 second. Just be patient! I recorded my first two months with him and it's insane how much bengals can play.. (on my third month with him now).

Without knowing it, we picked out a big-eyed Bengal/mix Cat from Saving Grace, a shelter. She is EVERYTHING you have described - on steroids!!! We decided she was "raised by wolves". She has an A personality, is beautiful, and loves our dog, and is very destructive (for all the reasons you named). She does not answer to our yells to "get down" from shelves, or the "water" squirted at her. She actually likes the water squirts, which is fun for her. She does not come to her name. We've yelled so much at her, our neighbors must think we're getting a divorce!!!! She totally ignores us like she were deaf. She's not. She hears anything she is interested in. She runs thru the house, loves her toys, loves boxes, paper sacks, the sink strainer, loves her cube, our house looks like a playground for kids. But keeping her entertained is the key. We play with her often and we like your suggestion for play-eat-sleep. We play till she's panting and lays down. Thanks for your video, wish we had seen it BEFORE adopting the cat. We love her a lot, we have to, to keep her!!!! AND she is gentle and cuddly, and loves being with us and cries loudly when either one of us, or the dog, leaves the house. She is very destructive and always looking for something to play with.... our couch, window screens, the dog, the dogs, tail, shelves with precious things, plastic bags (loves them, we cannot leave any out where she can get them) anything she can chew on like cords of any kind, and so much more. Oh yes, I forgot, she is a pack-rat and drags socks and t-shirts to her cube and loves shredding toilet paper and takes what's left to her cube - her "safe" place to go. Turn off the TV, she is far more entertaining than anything currently on television!!! (big smile!)

We have two brothers. We did this because we both work all day and did not want to come home to a home turned upside down. Also, because we knew before hand of their propensity to climb we built 130 feet of elevated carpeted catwalks throughout or home. We installed bedding platforms where they can hide or sleep way above us. They climb they run they play fight on the catwalks. This keeps them in good physical condition and our furniture free of claw marks. They can climb as fast as they can run! One guy weighs 21 lb while his bro is less than half that but the little guy is so fast he dominates a play fight. We also feed them raw with a dry kibble mix. The safest litter box is pine pellets - clay dust is toxic for their lungs. These cats are way too smart and very vocal - something to consider if you want a more docile breed.

I'm still gutted because I didn't know this while caring for my boy " Jack " .
