I know some people with pretty bad allergies, though yhis one made me think it was less of an allergy than it was being difficult. Still though, I do know a vegan who has coeliac disease and is lactose intolerant. She had such a hard time finding something for her wedding cake. I really felt for her as people sometimes treated her like she was being difficult, when she just really couldnt eat things.

@animalxing8697 it was more that it was kind of a double-whammy. Like "no I can't have 'just a bit of buttercream' as it's not just that I'm vegan, but it will physically hurt me." Kind of thing.

I know someone who is allergic to dairy, eggs, soy, nuts, shellfish, legumes and bananas. It's nearly impossible for them to order food anywhere.

My dad can't eat gluten (celiac), milk (the protein & lactose) or eggs. For decades he ate very bland tasting bricks of bread, only able to add flavor with jam or fruit when trying to bake. He absolutely loved the gluten free trend that started in the 00's and 2010's, because now there was finally flour and recipes of stuff he could eat! And then he immediately became a diabetic.

That’s literally me. 😂 I have something called Hereditary alpha-tryptasemia and am prone to anaphylaxis. Something I’m even mildly sensitive to can pull the trigger. Xolair just got cleared for food allergy treatment, thank goodness.

@@glowstick2137 yeah unhealthfully plain foods that still caused lots of discomfort and pain. One meal a day AFTER work bc the onset of symptoms could and would compromise my ability to function. Zero stars, do not recommend. Benadryl and/or prednisone was the only thing that managed it for years.

To be fair if I ask for no lobster and someone says there's no molluscs (clams, snails, octopuses...) I'd still want confirmation that there's no crustaceans or general shellfish (which is crustaceans _and_ molluscs). Maybe not if I'm at a bakery though

i still remember this lady who came to the coffee place I worked at to order a latte an a waffle with cream and sprinkles. She supposedly had a milk allergy, mind you not a lactose intolerance. a straight up much rarer and leads to your bowls exploding milk allergy. When asked she said to not worry it only happens with liquid milk so a latte and cream are fine...Those people gave me the confidence that I can make it through Uni. I might be dumb, but clearly not that dumb

How did she survive growing to adulthood if she can't tell whether a food is allowed by her allergy, like cream vs milk? She should have been Darwin'd years ago.

to be fair, I apparently have a milk allergy... but the only thing I get when I eat dairy is a rash that lasts for about a day. It's incredibly itchy, but allergy meds make it go away, so sometimes I eat dairy anyways. well, at least until a few months ago, where in addition to the rash I suddenly developed severe exhaustion for 72 hours after eating milk. That made me stop. But my bowels are mostly fine when I eat milk, sometimes I get a bit of pain but not much.

I dont really know much about milk allergy but maybe her symptoms mild when milk is modified with heat..? I got allergies to crustaceans (like crabs shrimps and clayfish) but i dont have any symptoms when they are cooked.

@@93Mopi I don't know why people always assume "milk allergy = you die when you eat milk" anyways. Sure, some people have allergies like that. But most allergies are mild, like getting an itch in your throat after eating the food or something like that. I have a hazelnut allergy... which means when I eat whole hazelnuts my throat gets a bit itchy, all other products with hazelnuts are fine. Same with my milk allergy (well at least until I developed exhaustion after eating milk). But even exhaustion, while being a symptom that stopped me eating milk, is no where near almost dying.

@@93Mopi That's absolutely possible. You can be allergic to some of the milk proteins that denature with heat (and then create that typical skin), so if you're not super allergic, boiled milk or milk used as a cooking/baking ingredient might be no problem.

I had a customer tell me they were allergic to SALT! Not that they were low sodium, but allergic to salt. They were ordering a margarita...

You can definitely have a margarita without salt. There are some tequilas with no sodium and triple sec and limes don't have salt either. So if you don't add salt to the rim then you can make a margarita with no salt.

How do you eat a cake without flour? I’m sure you could’ve offered to make it with rice flour or potato flour or something but given the previous conversation he’s probably just going to say “I’m allergic!” 🤦🏻‍♀️

Most flourless cakes are made with things like almond meal which would suck if you had a nut allergy. There are some meringue based, but that's eggs. Fudge based is butter and sometimes eggs. I've seen eggless, sugarless, gluten free flour cakes made with a copha based icing. It was edible, barely.

0:47 20 minutes is doable if you have the cake sheets pre done and just add the frosting and fruits inside provided there is no decoration involved. Would be a pretty simple cake but still doable. I made one and I am not a baker.

If you need a cake within 20 minutes I’d probably just ask if they have any pre-made because no way I’d make the baker rush prepping a new cake in 20 minutes just because I need it last minute
