Hey Marvinho! Thanks for the shout-out and referencing my video in the description. I think the main part really is having a foil that matches the conditions in your lake. If it’s mostly small and gutless then go for sth bigger like GONG Curve H, Sabfoil Leviathan, or Axis PNG. THEN think about what boards suit these wings. I would say for lake runs you might get away with the Hipe Cruzader. If you plan to eventually DW in the ocean, you might need a smaller HA front wing, and therefore a longer, skinnier (hard-!)board, to get these smaller wings up to speed…Interesting that you are mainly thinking about storage and price, for me it is mainly the fact that I am usually super hard on my equipment and that the GONG can take a proper beating any day without the need to repair it. 😂 Also, I would like to go upwind using public transportation. 😊

I thought a shout-out could maybe help you getting more subscribers and I was really glad having found you. Most Gong ads are always out in the ocean, whereas most people don`t have an ocean around. I haven`t thought about boards getting damage. I have the Gong Kite Catch from 2022 and that board really lost a lot of the color spraying while hitting something. I own an Indiana Board and that is way more resistant to damage. So I hope Gong really worked on their color spraying, but if not then an inflatable would be much better. In Switzerland we don`t have so much storage, that`s why it`s a big factor for me. I am not sure, if I will be sup foiling many days in the ocean, since we are either flying on vacation, or go kiting in Sicily what it is more a flatwater spot.

Hi how is your progress with SUP DW on your lake? I am very interested as well to try on my local lake. I have Cruzader with curve H 5xl. Trying first to flat paddle up, might be useful for lake DW (not necessary for Ocean DW). My lake does not get real bumps but can be windy. I think we should create FB or WA group specific to DW on lakes and share experiences. Cheers from Belgium

thank you very much for your message. Yes, a WA group specific for DW on lakes would be great. Unfortunately, I didn`t start yet, because I wasn`t sure what DW board to buy. I am not sure, if it is worth waiting to buy the second version of the Gong Hipe Cruzader or not. I thought they would have already released it by now. What size do you have with the Cruzader?

Tried to learn foiling and winging 3 years ago. Frustrating summer as the first gen wings were small and heavy and we are inland lake (small) and get very light wind (summer max is usually 12 mph). Couldn't do much. Bought a LIft E foil and learned to foil the last 2 summers. I think it' s immensely helpful to learn one of the skills before trying to do both, but that's me. Now I'm ready to learn sailing and try the wing again, only now I have a 6.4 and 8.0 wing that are supposed to be the real deal. We'll see :) I plan to learn to use my wing on my sup (w/center fin) and then transition to my foil board. We do have a drinking water reservoir near me that is elevated 40' and gets a lot more wind than down at ground level. And no speed boats!! hmmmmm

@@FoilingPastor The process is the joy to me. When I bought the LIft there were guys on our lake that bought 3 and were giving demo rides/lessons ($300) to pay for their boards. They hit us up countless times when they saw us out struggling. They used headsets and a 2nd board with an instructor on it. Guaranteed to get up on your ride or another hour free. They couldn't understand how we didn't want to be foiling RIGHT NOW. I just smiled. At 64 I have the patience. Wouldn't have 30 years ago. I've enjoyed every single minute of learning this crash by crash. Except the ones that hurt.

@@kittathay9678 I would be surprised, if the Takoon Boards are much better built than Gong. My impression from the outside was, that they are quite similiar in pricing and quality overall. Fanatic and Naish Boards are also way more costly, somehow they have to justify why they are costing mostly double...

Hello Marvinho Good videos on equipment choice and you pose some good questions I am wingfoiling now for 3years so quite a good standard I live on a sea inlet and have access to the ocean /swell for downwinding with paddle only My question is which Gong foils are you using or thinking about Sirius or Curve H in xl sizes Some of the locals are downwinding in strong wind no ocean swell and it seems that glide is good but being able to connect to another small wavelet is equally a important My thinking so far Gong 7'6 inflatable board but cant make my mind up between Curve H 3XLH or Sirius XXL
@FoilingPastor
@FoilingPastor 8 ай бұрын
thank you very much for your positive feedback. I will stay with the Sirus XXL, because I don`t want to spend all my money on equipment. At some point in your downwind journey, I think you want to take a smaller frontwing to downwind anyways, so the very big frontwings are more for learning I guess. But if you have neither of them, I guess for downwinding I would prefer the Curve H, because it will be easier to turn with it than the Sirus.

I live near Zug and use either an inflatable Hipe 5´3 or a rigid Cruzader 6´3, they have roughly the same volume. It's not only that the Cruzader picks up speed easily. Even more important is the fact that with the shape of the Cruzader (kind of a "bulb" in front) you get automatically into the pumping movement. The inflatable Cruzader Hipe is flat, so you lose this advantage. Regarding the Lake Zug downwind: dream big! Go for Vierwaldstättersee with Föhn, Seedorf - Brunnen!
@FoilingPastor
@FoilingPastor 8 ай бұрын
Thank you for your explanation. Did you get the Hipe 5"3 up from paddling? Lake Uri has way better swell for sure, but I live in Arth, so I would be great to be able to go downwinding either with "Föhn" or a strong "Brise"

Indeed! This may also be the move for the new hipe cruzaders that I expect will come out soon. Other brands are also offering narrow boards in different styles (see Takoon Escape for DW, Escape SW for intermediates, Takoon Ultra Glide a bit shorter and focused on winging). It would be great news (for me) if Gong would offer similar options in inflatable version, as I am more focused on winging. But for someone interested in more pure DW or with an expert/advanced level, I think the current hipe cruzaders on sale are a nice opportunity to get such boards at discount.
