Being a big believer in listening to what the world is telling you to do rather than telling the world what you’d like to do, once he received enough suggestions to get into teaching, Dan started teaching on the elementary level at Harland Johnson Del Bosque before becoming a professor at Autonoma University Guadalajara, and ultimately taking his unique teaching style to the world with Dan O’Connor Training.
Dan divides his time between the United States and Mexico, where he lives just outside of Guadalajara, in a lakeside village nestled in the Sierra Madres. It is there that Dan lives to spoil his two Springer Spaniels-Maggie Mae, his material girl If you have watched Dan’s videos on the 5 languages of love, appreciation, and respect you’ll know, and the four-legged relationship hero that’s changing the course of communication history: Buddy the Dog.
Dan can be reached at dan@danoconnortraining.com. You can learn more about him and his training on his website, www.DanOConnorTraining.com, or you can call him at 877-570-1573 701-205-4141 if calling from outside the US.

Dan, I want to thank you for providing these free videos. I’m a middle school teacher. I work in a somewhat hostile environment. Over the summer I binge watched your videos, took notes and practiced many of your communication suggestions. Well, Dan, the new school year has begun and I’m on the right foot and attitude 💕 I’ve learned a great, positive, professional, strong way of communicating that has changed my dynamic for the way better. I’m so appreciative of you💕🙏💜 Many thanks, Cindi.

I listen to these podcasts while I work. I have laughed out loud so many times listening to this particular one. This one is on repeat all day today. The rapport between you two is so entertaining while at the same time educational. In addition, that sweet face of Buddy and then the paw… Be still my heart… (Maggie too) My comment for this podcast concerns a psychopath - really - a true psychopath. Would these skills work with someone who enjoys lying, causing emotional pain, etc.? If that person has power over you it makes it hard on what can be said without retaliation. Very general but hope you get what I am trying to say. I am in that toilet spiral you speak about.

Also whenever you laugh you are good at stopping yourself so you can stay focus but you do have a very contagious laugh it it seems to come from someplace very deep I believe you are a joyous as well as intelligent and very very fun person. What to do when your principal from school is not a good communicator and when you say something , many words are taking out of context , I am an immigrant and it appears to me that there is a type of harassment towards to my status, and then try to ambush me with a meeting, try to investigate everything that you say, or how students feel sensitive. Instead come to me and have conversation with both parties he wants to write reprimands letter all the times. Is difficult to communicate with a person like that.

I have always known who I am and I never confuse what is said to or about me with who I am. LWW, filling out a personal compass will give you a powerful tool for the navigation you describe. Who are you? Where do you want to go? How do you want to get there? Don't try to be perfect. Just try to make each day better than the preceding, in terms of the love and light you show the world. After all--in truth, that is who we all are. We are love and light.

I definitely suffer from L'esprit de l'escalier. But one of my best, recently, was when some guy was showing me something at work as if I didn't know how to do it - he was really just nitpicking me and probably just being a butthole to make himself seem superior - so common - anyhow... and another bystander commented "You don't know how to do that?!" And the first guy said, "No one showed him how to do it, "correctly"." Then the second guy said, "Who showed you how?" And I said, "You did!" lol Then he chuckled and said, "No, I don't think so." Then he asked me, "How long have you been working here anyhow?" (All of this was very embarrassing and hurting my ego, but I just used wit and humor.) "How long have you been working here anyhow?" I said, "3 days." Pause for effect: "Well, I've been here for 2 years, but I only actually _worked_ 3 days." Then they all laughed. :) If you make fun of yourself, it takes away any sting from others trying to do it. And reminds you not to take yourself, others, or things too seriously.

When I get struck speechless, I make that comment: Your anger and level of unprofessional sarcasm, just before my big presentation have left me completely speechless. I would then add, I would rather you not participate in today's meeting. I don't see your negativity as contributing anything to it. We WILL talk about this later. You could add something about intentionally sabotaging the meeting, especially if it's a mid-level manager, and if there are other higher-ups within ear shot.

How do you communicate with people who just want to bully and not listen ? The people I know are very cluster b, narcissistic, sociopathic . They also tell people what I said after me telling them to keep it private. They're very sneaky and disrespectful. If they don't tell others things me & the narc talked about they slander my name , character assassinate me , just make up lies about me .

Why are you telling people things you want to keep private, though? Especially to narcs and psychos? I find that any seemingly mundane thing that I say can be used as ammo against me by someone who insists on being my enemy. It's uncanny, really. No matter how mundane. If I just mention what I ate for lunch, it will, somehow, become ammo against me...

@@flawlessstrategy9972 Just to clarify-- I don't communicate with psychos. My advice has always been to give a psycho what he/she needs, which is DISTANCE. Second, I would be very careful whom I labeled "psycho" in the first place. And secondarily, I don't communicate anything I wish to keep private--to anyone. Flawless, I think you might want to watch the video again. In the meantime, if you consider someone a "narc" or an "enemy," try not to communicate with them--period. Dan

Geez....You treat Andrew like he is so dumb....clearly he is following and tracking your random left and right turns, but as a second language speaker e.g. You once said ...Andrew talks like a small child... but .everyone does when they are learning another language. He is actually very respectful to you even when you mock him. His movie star smile and looks saves him from ever looking bad, and I can tell he is not just good looks he is tracking and trying to follow your free scripting, but it is like trying to follow an aerobic instructor who has not consistent count to the drills changing randomly. Andrew is a good dude. He radiates that he is a good being.

Andrew is a friend of my nephew who interned with me for about two months. He's bright and funny and has a wonderful sense of humor. You needn't worry about Andrew who is now a junior in college and doing very well. He knows how smart he is and he doesn't need anyone to pander to him. BTW, he has two first languages and no second :)

I just don't suffer fools gladly. The 1st and most important rule I learnt in martial arts which I have utilized, is to always know where the exit or escape route is. The disempowering effect this has on an adversary: to dismiss them physically, mentally etc. by actively retreating is humiliating to them
