He's missing his wide open receivers a bit too often, though. He needs to look at other guys on routes besides Andrews. There have been some big play opportunities left out on the field. But it's still early in the season. The Ravens have a scary good offense with playmakers at every position. If they can manage to coordinate and optimize that bounty of assets they will be the scariest offense in the AFC. As a Louisville fan, Lamar has always been underrated as a passer. I don't think his passing is the best, but it's pretty good and he's smarter than a lot of people give him credit for. As much as I don't like Bobby Petrino (former UL coach that coached Lamar), I have to thank him for Lamar's success in the NFL. He really did get him ready for the pros. You could really see it by his junior year, even though UL didn't do as good. Lamar's stats were actually better that year than his heisman year. The first one he threw to his first read, a 7ish yard curl to a receiver when the CB is 10 yards downfield playing off man coverage, that is scheme. A rat zone is a shallow zone in front of the traditional Hook/Curl middle zones just a couple yards of the line of scrimmage. If you look at depth of recepetion maps youll see an increase in targets to this area exponentially over the last decade - this is largely teams running mesh/drags and arrow/texas routes to RBs. To counter this DCs are putting defenders right where the passes would be completed, negating the run after catch ability or detering the pass entirely. If you want to see a great use of rat zones rewatch the Bengals playoff game against the Chiefs last season - it was instrumental in the win.

@@Mikeyski4 ….I’m guessing u didn’t watch the game jus the highlights huh. U kats online r just haters an don’t have a clue. Josh Allen blew it n the first half but u didn’t mention that. Also Lamar hit his wrs specifically Bateman multiple times an the ball was dropped on third downs that killed drives. But I’m guessing u missed that! Yes Lamar fucked up the last play of the game but don’t forget the other plays were he did his job an others messed it up.

@Thinking Football how do you think the Bills were able to shut him down in the second half Week 4? Even then, he got off to a hot start but then got held scoreless for a whole half

The issue I see with this is how repetitive the offense is. Defenses will figure it out. Smart adjustments by Roman and props to Lamar for being a quick learner, but early season offensive success is easy in this league. Late and post season success is a lot harder to achieve, especially as the defenses get better. The Ravens haven't really faced a good defense yet. What should be their first true test (against the Bills) is already not going to be such due to the injuries the Bills currently have. Luckily for them, they only really have Bengals twice and the Bucs once. I'd say the Steelers, but that is 100% dependent on TJ Watt returning and how his body is doing when he does return

Considering he completed a total of 2 passes I believe in the 2nd half against MIA and had less than 50 total yards, I would say they figured him out. He also tanked in the 2nd half against the Bills last week. He is a super talented dude, but folds when the chips are down.
