Third-Person in The Source Engine

There's a very, VERY obscure Source game in third person called "WWII Experience" which was a multiplayer tank game (similar to war thunder I guess) made by Kuma Games.

I watched the whole video and was shocked Vindictus wasn't included. It may be a microtransaction riddled hellscape run by Nexon (lol) but it is a source game and it's got the best hack-n-slash combat of any game I've ever played.

You forgot about a halloween spell in tf2 that miniaturized your character and lets you shoot and fight in 3rd person mode.

Not just that but there's also the being scared mechanic when fighting bosses.

@@glassramen basically every instance when you cannot fight (with exception of the spell mentioned above). That includes being stunned, scared, using go kart (in halloween event), taunting, under effect of a drink, etc.

I just remembered the jarate spell from Merasmus where everyone goes under"water" also puts you in third person. TF2 is too many games in one to list all these small things without seriously thinking about it

There are actual addons for L4D2 that fix the issues with the thirdperson commands, that make it really good, honestly. The reason why Postal III helped in leaking beta HL2 content is because it was using an older version of the Source engine, which when the out-sourced devs got their hands on it from Valve, Valve neglected to remove anything regarding HL2. Should also mention, you are correct on saying Alien Swarm isn't third-person, it's top-down i.e. Hotline Miami and such. Great video.

Top-down is 2.5D third-person or 2D third-person same with side-view and isometric view and other perspectives that i may not know about but still involves being able to see and control your protagonist

Yeah it actually is third-person. It is also top-down but the position of the camera doesn't matter for the definition of perspective, those are two separate things I.e. what he discussed in this video is typically called "over the shoulder"

Portal 1 and 2 are in the unintended cheats category (and I imagine the camera would suck for aiming and flinging), but the engine does actually give you a proper simulated character model in single player so that you appear properly in portals, and that applies to third person as well. I've also been pretty frustrated by the fact that gmod locks thirdperson behind sv_cheats; why can't I get the achievement points for spawning props just cause I want to be in third person lol

You can also use third person in l4d2 as special infected of course you'll need to open a map with command prompt and do versus but what you need to type in command prompt is viewdistance and put a negative numbers and i think its works pretty well

Yeah, Third person mode is pretty rudimentary in Source 2013, the ones Valve wants people to use to make mods. The camera often goes out of bounds, doesn't blur models when it hits something and some entities are broken with it enabled like point_camera, and if you want to use the platformer mode, you'd have to think of a smoothing algorithm to smooth the transition of the character model when you turn to an angle.

IIRC there's also a third person hack and slash fantasy game made with Source from circa 2014-2015, it wasn't developed by Valve, and definitely not a DOTA game. I forgot what it's called, and practically nobody talked about it

I know this video was about commercial titles, but the Half-Life 2 co-op mod, Synergy featured a great thirdperson mode which you could change to freely. It even had an object detecting crosshair, i.e it would show if you were aiming behind a corner but the corner was still in the way.

the way of getting into third person in apex is intentional, not a glitch, it was also available in a limited time mode in season 3 iirc also, titanfall 1 and 2 both support thirdperson through sv_cheats 1 (though, in titanfall 1's case there's no way of doing this outside of demos since you can't host your own servers)
