Bishop and Harper are both black female stereotypes. Bishop is the no-nonsense 'Oh, you did not just say that to me.' humourless stoic while Harper was the 'angry black woman' stereotype before they gave her some actual characterisation. Chen meanwhile is the sweet and cute 'friend to all' Asian girl and Lopez is the Latina firecracker. I love the show but the first season is awkward because the female characters are all such cut and paste archetypes.
@mooki339 ай бұрын
@10Cnote Maybe because she is his TO aka training him. We clearly didn't see him explain the reason behind letting the guy go or what he told him to do. Throughout their time together we were shown that they grew to both respect and care for each other. Talia was the ONLY one to show up to John's house party. She also listed him as the primary on all of their calls so that he received credit for all of the scenarios. Tim nor Angela thought to do that for their boots. Bottomline, we saw Talia mess up by leaving their shop unlocked and we saw John mess up COUNTLESS times because he was her rookie.
@EduardoLopez-tged9 ай бұрын
Because her job is to train Nolan who is still new to all of this. In 9/10 situations, this idea would have gone badly. The bad guy might have just killed the girl anyway, he could have already done it in the back seat and then planned on shooting the guy right away. He could have suspected something was up (with how many time nolan asked to open the trunk) and started shooting already (or at least when it seemed like the check point was cleared). There are WAY to many scenario's this doesn't go perfectly. Its a tv show so of course it goes well and nolan looks great for it. But Bishop is a seasoned officer and likely knows all the way this could have gone horribly. She can't really condone Nolan just doing random stuff against procedure because the time this doesn't go well, its going to be a huge deal (and likely his career). I give her credit though for trusting her partner and not blowing it all up right there at the check point.

I know like if they had opened that trunk, the kid's gone for good. But the whole silence during the tense moment, the silence was needed to not alert the prisoner. There would be no reason as of now during the Car check for the prisoner to shoot the kid at all and even during the drive. When the father would reach the destination and the prisoner got what he wanted, then he can shoot the father and daughter as they are not needed, but that is by chance if the Prisoner is remorseless.

Understand from Bishop's POV - she asked, "and if you're wrong?" She cannot see the eyes of that driver, but from a paper standpoint - there's a possibility that the convict killed the people in the car, changed clothes, inspected the car's things, and then stole the identity, and is driving the car. You open the trunk, you find somethings are off, and it's a problem. This is why she's mad. From the start, you have to follow things by the book and protocol, but he basically dodged protocol. It's not right to bend the rules.

Meanwhile, in real life, cops would've ordered him to pop the trunk, surrounded it, and put more risk to the child. And afterwards, the father would've been arrested for aiding and abetting a fugitive, the charges of which would've been dropped months later after paying bail to get out and get a lawyer. And all of this while his child, depending on the circumstance, would've been either without her father or killed during the standoff. Most, if not all, officers don't understand how delicate certain situations like this can get, and should go off of instinct and gut feelings rather than trying to get a higher arrest record.
