"Smaller creators like me" man you've probably influenced me more than any other professor! I'm 20 and sometimes I still find it incredible to be so young and live in a time where we have people like you just tossing so much good quality information, techniques and stories for the world to use! Thank you for everything you do and I hope you know that you're helping many little parts of the world develop quality work and work philosophy, sometimes reserved for only developed nations..

Great tips to use! One thing I heard and kind of found about Business accounts. It seems like Instagram will hide your post a little from other people to force you to pay for sponsorship. Using tags won't help as much. Maybe switch to a Business once your following reaches a certain amount?

Cheers as always Eric. This Christmas break making a professional Instagram and website is at the top of my to-do list and your advice is super helpful! Do you think an account as a student is just as important as a working professional account? Interested in you view as the work we produce (as you would know) is all process and pure design. Have a lovely Christmas and can't wait to view all the content for the coming year!
@30by406 жыл бұрын
hi james...you can always convert your personal account to a professional one so not a lot of skin in either decision...the main benefits of the pro account are: it gives you access to analytics, opens the ability to do paid promotions, and the swipe up feature on stories (once you reach 10K followers) is nice. lots of value to be had there, but you can start a personal one and begin learning the ropes as a launching point. i didn't get into this in the video, but before i meet with someone i don't know (client, student, artist, another pro) i always check their insta feed. it's like a modern-day business card...the earlier you start cultivating your portfolio there (and btw, process photos are really interesting to a broad audience, not just future employers or biz contacts)...the farther ahead of your competition you'll be. becoming a practitioner is always a winning strategy. cheers + happy christmas to you!

another great one.. I was thinking what made you choose youtube over vimeo? ((just hit into vimeo myself “as a consumer” carto uses that.) and I found out it is possible to save the videoes for the gym where they dont stream internet, really miss that from youtube)
@30by406 жыл бұрын
decision to use YT was pretty easy: youtube is the second largest search engine (behind google which owns YT)...that's the big one...I love vimeo + esp. the quality, but the content isn't discoverable. so, it's just much easier to build an audience and following on YT... i think if you sub to YT RED you can download for offline viewing.

Hi, i'm curious on your viewpoint as an architect. Would you pay a big architecture page for promoting/sharing on of your projects with their worldwide audience? Or do you think it is not that interesting for and architect, because most of them only work in a relatively local area.

Great channel, new subscriber here. Very good information. I recently relocated from a very urban setting, back home to a much more rural area... much smaller population. As the only licensed architect in this specific area in finding myself more opportunities in my professional development. A professional Instagram account doesn't seem necessary in this situation at first glance, but i think i should attempt it just to present myself as more professional. In a small populated area, my Facebook friends consist of old classmates, family, friends, clients, pretty much everybody. My Facebook runs the gamut of cat photos, political gripes, silly daily things... just EVERYTHING! I'd be interested in suggestions you might provide for me to transition from local non-serious guy to a more professional representation of our profession...and how 'local yokels' might be interested in following?

Ok so im a student in architecture university in greece now and for my experience so far people that use instagram 80% of the time is crap.. i myself dont have an account but most of the people that im surrounded with do have and its what it says to be, a social media app nothing more. I can say that u get profit from it if you are a photographer or perhaps anyone that NEEDS that selling point because is the place that they will see it and its wellknown, but you have to think about the thing that i call ''respect aspect''. As i said 80% its bs the people, the way they use photos and the app like you dont have to become like this and get involve to that level of mainstream. Architects see the world differently, its there talent its the way that makes them special why become part of something all can do. There are tons of infomation on the internet on books events etc. to find knowledge, appreciation and talent. You can say that we are evolving to a new way of communication and advertisment but i hate to become part of this mainstream. Think about the movie The Fountainhead thats the best example of someone that noone wanted to succeed but did it and the way his mindset was its ,personally, one of the best ways an architect can think of.

I found this incredibly helpful. Mine is only personal for now, but this gave me some food for thought. This is the only social media I am using right now. I usually don't but I have a newborn and lots of time to sit while nursing and wanted to stay connected with the outside world while doing so during this intensive time. When first using it I realized it is very different from the other social platforms. There seemed to be some sort of etiquette, but I don't think I am following the mold. I was looking that up when your timely video appeared. That is what I like about social media how people can use it as a tool and customize it for themselves. @elissarosin

Thanks a lot about the video and your tips from your work! I'm just wondering how you manage your time well in your field. I mean how do you work deeply and be focused in your passion amidst in the distracted world and full of social media we are living. Does it affect your work since you answer frequently your emails every day and post photos in Instagram? I agree there is a positive side or effects on using the network tool, yet does it affect the beauty of your work every time you have projects and specifically, which is cannot be argued, your precious time? (I'm an 18 year old who also wanted myself to be an architect like you. Thanks for the inspiration.) @johncanero

you've described the problem precisely...wonder if you've seen this video of mine yet: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pH24hmmtmKZmp6c that describes how i compartmentalize my day between making (in the morning) and managing (in the afternoon). i had to dial back all my social media in the past few weeks to step back and be with family...it was so enjoyable, and now i feel like i have to rediscover my discipline again! It's a constant battle...just be intentional, that's my advice.
