@@BrunodeSouzaLino Erm........ You're wrong there mate. The full tower Z230 use an 18 motherboard connector, while the SFF versions power the board with 2 different types of 6 pin connectors. Also, the towers PSU doesn't really conform to ANY of the ATX standards as it's slightly taller and slightly narrower than an ATX PSU. It also has an output with a strange voltage (Something like 11vdc) that no ATX PSU will provide. When you fit an ATX PSU into one of these (Which I have in one of my Z230's) you can physically bodge it in using 2 of the PSU's screws, and then you need a 24 to 18 pin adapter. This adapter has a little voltage regulator under some heat shrink on it that provides that one unusual voltage that the motherboard needs.

I was worried about the 300w PSU but haven't had any issues even when stress testing the CPU and GPU at the same time. Time Spy score of 4379 with the 329th fastest RX 480 after an overclock. What's even crazier about that is that it's an OEM HP Rx 480 with a stock TDP of 110 compared to the normal 150W. I raised the power limit to 150w in adrenaline to match normal Rx 480s but I wouldn't go higher bc 6pin+pci-e can only supply 150w.

I run 2 of these Z230's as budget games machines, and I'm perfectly happy with them. One has the standard 400w PSU and a 6gb GTX 1060 in it, and the other has a 650w ATX PSU bodged into it and happily runs a GTX 1080. The only real problems with using a Z230 as a games machine is that HP didn't add BIOS options to do anything interesting, all but the top 16x PCIe 3.0 slot are PCIe 2.0 (so once your GPU's installed, things like PCIe to M.2 adapters or 8 port USB 3.2 cards will be struggling with bandwidth), and there's a few things that don't conform to ATX standards, so certain upgrade paths are tricky. For example, the PSU isn't ATX dimensions, the motherboard plug is an odd 18 pin item rather than the common 24 pin, and the PSU's also pushing out an oddball voltage on one rail for something or other (11vdc IIRC). An ATX PSU CAN fit, but it's not exactly tidy unless you fabricate an adapter plate, and you'll need a special power adapter cable that includes a power regulator in it to get that off voltage. These PC's only really came with i7 4770/4790's or a handful of different Xeon chips from the E3-12xx v3 range. The i7's seem to give slightly better benchmarks, but the difference is minimal, and as the Xeons tend to be a shade cheaper, it's worth not ignoring them as a potential option. They're all basically the same piece of Haswell silicon with different names etched into the lid, so it's not worth getting too hung up on which flavour you find going cheap. Some HP/Dell/Lenovo systems can spit out their dummy if you don't use the exact OEM specification of memory that came in it when new, but these don't seem to be particularly fussy. They take up to 32gb of DDR3, and at least here in the UK, DDR3 seems to have hit that point where the secondhand markets flooded with the stuff, but most of the folks who could use it have already loaded up their PC or are saving the money to go towards a CPU/motherboard/DDR4 upgrade, so for now, getting 4x 8gb sticks isn't a budget shatteringly experience. All said, for the money, they're still an absolutely cracking budget games PC. As the PC's have onboard raid, and I had a handful of 1tb Samsung SSD's kicking about, I chose to set my pair of Z230's up with raid 0 striped arrays for the primary drives. It's not getting anywhere near m.2 speeds, but the setup does give a noticeable drop in how long games take to load.

the 4790 and 4790K are still pretty good, my first build 2 years ago rocked the 4790K with a 1660 Super also these days the 1060 3GB is more of a 720/900p card, pairing with one of those monitors (since they're also cheaper) would go perfect since it'd look better than running at those resolutions on a 1080p monitor, something like a 900p 75Hz monitor would be a real good sweetspot and it'd still be under $150 cause those old 900p75 monitors are dirty cheap, it's sad how badly that GPU aged though, when it came out it was definitelly a PS4 Pro killer, now even the 6GB one can barely keep up with the base PS4 in modern titles funny enough, it still beats the Steam Deck in performance lol, now I think, I wonder how would games run exactly at 800p like the Steam Deck

I paired it with a GTX 1060 but 6GB version, which was free because of liquid damage which took me a good bit to thoroughly clean and repaste. I can definitely confirm 60 FPS in Helldivers 2, though I run it on medium preset, it's so CPU limited that all 8 threads are working very very hard to keep it going, so my 1060 is barely jogging to keep up anyway. The i7-4790 is a great choice because of the 4 cores 8 threads. It's still perfectly serviceable to game on 8 threads in 2024, but you REALLY don't want less than that. I got a few friends with comparable PCs playing Helldivers 2, and it runs like a bucket of butts for them because their 4th-6th gen i5's only have 4 cores 4 threads. Kinda wish I had the i7-4790K as I have a lot of thermal headroom, even under 100% all core load it's only pushing 73°C, I could overclock it a good bit if it let me.

Zach just want to thank you for having a tech help area in Discord to let all the 13yr old trolls who can barely write English hang out in there and troll and spam and keeping them out of all the legit Tech Help Discords. You are doing the community a great service! By no means have these trolls talking about penis size and racist comments and what movie star has the best looking starfish and calling each other idiots and worse over pc part picker lists or being shamed by their budget or what's available in their country in the tech help area kept actual people with money and who buy PC's and parts and want to help and learn from joining, participating and growing your community. But to be far it is a great business strategy, the 13yr old dysfunctional trolls of today are the McDonald's workers of tomorrow and they will need a $300 PC eventually... ahh who am I kidding they will just buy a console.

I've had my 4790K for almost 10 years, it's a really good CPU. Now I'm upgrading to a R5 5600, and the next step will be to upgrade my old Vega 56.

Got an i5-4590k paired with a Zotac 1660 Super and 16gb DDR3 RAM. Runs games like BG3 on 1080p at about 40-60fps. Newer Open World RPGs like Dragons Dogma 2 won't run. But: My 1660 is still bottlenecked by the cpu about 30% 🥲

My 1650 is bottlenecked by my i5 that’s a little newer but it still is super annoying 😢

I have a Zotac 1660 Super! Works very well for a GPU with such little power draw. It's what I was cheering at, when I accidentally "bricked" my RX 5600 XT! (That was in December, 2021! So that card saved me, as I also got it before 2021)

Old workstations make some great builds on the cheap. I'm running a 2x Xeon Lenovo P710. Factory 850W PSU and 2 8 Pin PCI-e cables included.

It’s funny. My custom PC decided to die yesterday and I don’t have the cash to fix it for a little while. I almost was able to replicate this build and it should be here in a week or so. I think it’ll work for the games I play before I can build my baby again.
@justingonzalezron95046 ай бұрын
I got the same OEM for free, I slapped a 6600xt, more ram, and the mentioned sata power cable, but the 8pin version and it worked. Whenever the CPU gives out I’m going to buy a new mobo, and cpu, and psu. Keeping the case 😎

if you are gonna do this, you might as well grab either a 6GB version of gtx1060 or an 8GB rx480 or rx580. there are games that will display an error and refuse to run on a 3GB gpu and there are quite a few games that won't run well on a 4GB card.

The RTX3050 6GB is a Dream for someone like me who prioritizes Power consumption sinec electric price is high and for an RT card with 5W less that the 1650 GDDR6 I have is a massive WIN in my book

@BaconAnimates106 ай бұрын

@barbar0s.73 ай бұрын
just get a fairly modern OEM like 8th Generation or something and pair it with a 1660 Super, make sure to have a ssd and atleast 16GB ram, if you go the custom route you won't be able to get a good graphic card or even useable ram at 250$

I looked up the ebay seller and they charge $85 shipping and handling for an HP Z640 to the east coast! Insane! ZTT must live in Oregon because they offer free pick up or maybe he is excluding shipping costs which would skyrocket the cost of this OEM upgrade.

There is a pretty good sized weight difference between the Z640 and the Z230 in the video.
