Hi, that’s 1930’s integrated architecture and that unit is a “dirty laundry hamper” ! The top has a pull button to drop your dirties, has vents (so dirty clothes can breath and avoid increasing smells, damp, mold) and the bottom door opens to empty out your laundry when your ready to sort and do a wash. Surprising ! These were considered standard bathroom features until the early 60’s.

Thanks for jogging my memory on the laundry chute!! We lived in a large house that had one when I was in fifth grade!! Except ours was flush with the wall and had a round knob you pulled to open & just drop clothes in!

So cool. It reminds me of an apartment I once lived in that had a little door between the kitchen and the outside hallway that opened in both directions. It was for milk deliveries oh so long ago! If I had to live in a studio I would not put a separate bed in the space. I would just get a sofa bed that you can open up when you're ready to sleep. This would allow you to really use the space more wisely. This is probably one of the more spacious studios you have shown us. I love that everything is separated from the living space.

I know it’s the homeowner in me but I can’t imagine having to go elsewhere to do my laundry anymore. I’m thinking of the dead of winter when it’s snowing/sleeting for days and you have to lug your clothes/bedding outside through that to hopefully get enough machines available so you can do everything at once. Just to lug all your clean and dry clothes back through the elements. If I’m ever a renter again, laundry in-unit (or at the very least in building) would be non negotiable for me.

I’m planning on moving to NYC at some point in the future. One of my friends gave me an idea for when I have to take my clothes to a laundromat. She originally lived in an apartment that didn’t have in-unit laundry, but there was a laundromat down the street. What she did was essentially put straps on the side of a flexible laundry hamper, then kept the clean clothes in a trash bag so they wouldn’t get dirty on the commute home. I’m going to be smarter though, I’ll be using one of my old army-issued duffel bags, as they’re actually mostly water resistant and can hold a lot

OMG, a classic pink and black bathroom! I have one in my 1932 "bungalow" in the SF Bay Area! And yes, it has a hamper (I store junk in it :) My upstairs bedroom has a laundry chute that goes right into the utility room where my washer/drier are. The pink and black bathrooms were very popular when Eisenhower was President--his wife Mamie loved pink and black, so these bathrooms were known as "Mamies". I love an apartment where the kitchen is a separate room. Most apartments now seem to have the kitchen either in a hallway or in one corner of the living room. Btw I have that ugly peach tile in my bathroom. Started to rip it out but then it kind of grew on me and I did a spa theme. It looks fine so roll with the peach. If it were me, I'd do a divider as you walk into the main space and put the bed on the wall farthest away from the windows. It would look like a hallway that opened into a big living room. You could use a standing wardrobe or a screen or a book case with open shelves.

I like this one! I can't find fault with the location, within ten minutes' walk to the train, a supermarket, and restaurants. The neighborhood looks busy but not frantic. The apartment seems to be on the second floor, which may be noisier, but my pacemaker wouldn't complain about the climb. It's a downer to have to lug laundry to the laundromat, but it's right across the street. The kitchen is dated and lacks a dishwasher (and a sprayer faucet), but it has room for a shelf to put your small appliances, and you've got that rolling island. For a studio it's big. The living/dining/sleeping area is large enough for all three functions, at least for a single person. There are two closets, also adequate for a single. The bathroom is dated and needs a shower curtain rod, but it would be fine for me. If this apartment had in-unit laundry and built-in a/c it could go for considerably more. There's nothing fancy about it but I'd call it a good value

A dresser with a small the opposite wall. A night stand against the wall with windows. A dining table could go in the space where the rolling cabinet sets. A couch , comfy chair, floor lamps, a mirror over the couch, small side table by the chair, a coffee table with storage, a large dresser or entertainment center with a fireplace enclosed, a wall hung tv. A closed up stand alone wardrobe with mirrored doors across from the dining table and a small portable cart near the table for tramsportingvfood etc.

I think this “studio“ would offer more for your money in any medium to large city. It has a kitchen in it’s own space with a window, with enough cupboards so that I would divide them into “kitchen” for cooking implements, place settings and pantry items and then the remainder “storage” for non kitchen items. The living space is big and bright and with a divider shelf unit can be separated into “bedroom” and “living”; @and maybe even “dining”. I hope the person who rents this is an aspiring interior decorator.
