I always told non New Yorkers there's inexpensive decent apartments in NYC. I was born & live in NYC, everybody isn't rich or could afford to pay $4,000-$6,000 a month rent. There's a lot of low income people who need apartments they can afford. There's quite a bit of nice 1& 2 bedroom apartments under $1,600 a month in decent neighborhoods here in NYC. He's just finally showing them. Don't believe everything you hear about NYC, believe what you know. Thanks Cash & Have A Great Week ❤!!!
@EastSide-qc5oy2 жыл бұрын
Yes, but those apartments are very difficult to find unless you know a lot of people and are constantly asking around, or have “ins” with owners and property managers. Folks such as yourself have an advantage because born and raised tend to have those connections much more than transplants. Also people have to keep in mind that rent stabilized units sometimes or perhaps often get the short end of the stick when it comes to repairs and upgrades. Landlords focus their resources and attention on profit producing market rate units. Landlords can be slow to respond to needs. Apartments can fall into poor conditions. The city can get involved to enforce tenant rights but that’s not always a magic bullet.

Just a note, that knob on the radiator isn't to adjust the heat. It's to bleed air out of the pipes. You open the valve until water comes out. Then you know the air is out. I grew up with radiator heat. 🙂

I'd take the first one. The layout is better I think. But I'd make sure to have the locks changed after I move in. But I'd insist on that no matter where I lived. Having big radiators can be great in the winter. Just put a pan of water on it and voila! a humidifier. Also great for keeping food a little warmer while entertaining. Just be sure to vacuum the radiator boxes at least twice a month. A LOT of dust can gather there. Believe me LoL.

I like my radiators. Fort George was the last fort built during the Revolutionary War. The neighborhood sits on a ridge from 181st street to Dykman Street and Broadway to the Harlem river. The Cloister museum is close by. The blocks are extremely hilly and steep. The area is also known as nosebleed heights due to the ridge it sits on. Not the worst neighborhood but remember to get to midtown 30 minutes, downtown, Queens or Brooklyn longer. Late night train rides through some neighborhoods could be iffy. Born and raised on 175th. Funny thing is. The more of these vids gets out. The more higher earning income people move in and low income workers. You know that Dominican family you see in your building. Yeah they get pushed out. And soon with all the higher income earners moving in. Your gem of apartments in Inwood. Which a lot of my friends also live. Yeah that apartment will soon then be unaffordable to even you. You see I know because I’ve seen many many people come and go from my parents building. See they get that gem of Apt but once that lease expires well because they’re white the landlord jacks up the rent. They know that Caucasians make more money so they squeeze as much as possible because to a higher earner which are mostly caucasians this looks like a steal but it’s not. So then the lease is up they have to move out because they jacked the rent up as much as they can so that once it reaches 2900 it becomes a market rate apartment. You know what happens then? That Gem becomes unaffordable even to the Caucasian. So that diversity you love, the different restaurants and people and culture goes out the door. That unfortunately is gentrification. Sucks not for just the brown community but eventually it will suck for you too 😕 It’s unfortunate. That’s why more rental legislation are urgently needed.

Isn't the Bronx still pretty rough, though? Are these (probably rent stabilized) prices too good to be true?
@ASprinkleofAnime2 жыл бұрын
Its in upper Manhattan not the bronx and its not the safest but not the worst area. As long as there are no rodents it seems like a nice quiet building.

Yea, the stilts look odd. Not exactly sure what the construction history of the property is. However, for $1,000? Won't complain. But there was that apt bldg in Florida last yr that collapsed.

Those buildings are about 100 years old, and as you can see there are no cracks on the floors or the walls, nor see anything warped or bent out of position. The foundation is rock solid!

Here is my experience. I moved in and got a killer deal. Cheap cheap cheap, but after only a few months they raised the rent, and then raise it again, and again, and again, and finally again. So it was no good deal, just worse then the expensive ones. I think they do it, to hook you and then screw you.

Welcome to Washington Heights. 181 street is our version of downtown 34st. It has it all. Including street vendors with great food. Easy access to train A express and 1 local. If you ever wanted to take the scenic route to 5th Ave you can always get on the M4.

Both were nice but I would go with #1 . The building had an elevator. It was darker than #2 but I would get over that. Great video Cash.😊

The valve flush looks like it leaks profusely when flushed in the second apartment. In the first apartment the tub tile grout is all moldy, but it can be cleaned. Both are a real steal if the one kitchen gets filled out. The support structure for those buildings is super bizarre underneath; kind of sketchy looking.

For everyone who says these supports look sketch, they've been like that for years. Bridges in NYC are held up by sketchy looking supports too but they must have made them out of some good steel back in the day!

Yeah I'm the problem. Right! Glad that place has character but not characters. More is not always better. Let's go back to Yokohama soon. Or wait til the Captain is about 6 months old. I keep telling people that there are affordable apartments here. You just have to have the patience to look. You’ll be close to necessary amenities (shopping, restaurants etc.), but you won’t be near “the scene”, which has worked for me.

@@VondaInWonderland Good idea, but it's not about the space, it's about getting venting to the outside and plumbing to and from the washer. Those old buildings often have obstacles in the way that prevent doing those things.

A lot if these older building DO have laundry in the basements. Not sure if these had them or if Cash was aware if they did. But if they don't it's enough space to put your own washer & dryer in. You are awesome! Loved this video. I really appreciated the look through the entire apartments and surrounding areas. I think I like the layout and feeling of the first apartment better than the second, though you are right that there is more room and area in the second one. The bathroom in the second one has much better tile around the tub - clean and neat, though I kind of like the first bathroom better. Hard to choose! That subway tunnel was so frightening to me, I could film a fantastic horror movie between that and the bus terminal. LOL

Although all of NYC is expensive, there are DEFINITELY more affordable prices above Harlem and into the bronx.
