I'm 77 & at age 5, my family bought a brand new 1951 Ford! However, in late '51, Ford ran a t.v. commercial, stating that the company was going to "scrap' the next two years of planned models" & put out the 1954 model, two years early, in 1952! They weren't kidding, because the '52 was the most modern looking car on the market! Because of this, I think my family always wished that they had waited one more year to buy a FORD!

The last ad showed all OHV engines, in cars, Ford's 6 went ohv in '52, but the v-8's were flatties until '54. Were trucks different? Don't think so...

Actually, they were. That is, in the Ford truck "Big Job" series (rigs, car haulers, dump trucks, fire engines, etc..) OHV Lincoln engines were used, starting in 1952. These OHV Lincoln car 317 V-8 engines were real brutes, developing 205 hp by 1954 and mated to GM Hydromatic transmissions until 1955.

Aha, the genesis of an Edsel TV commercial! Similar multi-car acrobatics but with twice as many vehicles. (Spoiler alert: that campaign didn't help Edsel)
