The reason it's so expensive is because it's tradition for the first sale of the year to be bid for very aggressively, both for marketing for the buyer being able to make headlines and for a tradition where a new record is set each year as a sort of new years gift. The record was interrupted in 2021 because of the pandemic. Edit: forgot to mention, the actual price is much more reasonable. The price is usually only thousands of dollars per fish, which equals to around 20-30 USD per pound.

The way to make it sustainable is just getting people to understand that having enough money doesn’t mean you should make animals go extinct 😢 The problem with rich people is that they eat stuff we humans aren’t supposed to eat and don’t need like: Shark, they get tortured get there find cut of and thrown back Lobster: it gets cooked alive (like some other sea animals) Caviar: they take a pregnant fish cut het open without sedation because that puts a bad taste and throw it back to die (there are somewhat more cruelty free ways on caviar farms but rich people rather buy the expensive stuff that was done cruel) There is so much expensive stuff that rich people will keep eating just to show how rich they are but they’ll never take into consideration what the animals go trough And don’t get me wrong, I’m not vegetarian I eat meat but normally meat is produced with a lot of regulations including that the animals are sedated Also we humans need meat but we don’t need to make species go extinct 😢

@@jeffmonson_666_Angel_slayerAs an oceanographer doing my degree in marine ecosystems off the coast of South Africa, this is what I say to you buddy: While it's true that recreational anglers may catch some bluefin tuna with rod and reel, a substantial portion is caught through industrial methods like longlining and purse seining, contributing to overfishing concerns. It's important to recognize the impact of both commercial and recreational activities on marine ecosystems. Conservation efforts and responsible fishing practices are crucial to preserving the delicate balance of our oceans. Dismissing the issue as 'literally impossible' is not only inaccurate but undermines the need for collective responsibility in safeguarding marine life. Let's be informed advocates for sustainable practices to ensure a healthier future for our oceans.

Do you know how many animals, insects, etc are killed to harvest a crop? EVERYTHING is killed and must die.. no matter what you eat, you're contributing to the killing of animals and insects, etc.. just ask any crop farmer. The answer will shock you. Thankfully,. My grandparents would trap rabbits instead of them being ripped apart by the combines, well as much as possible. But, groundhogs, rabbits, birds, insects, etc.. are all either poisoned or ripped to shreds to protect crops, especially if it's an expensive crop . Millions of animals are killed to make sure crops aren't invaded and destroyed. It always makes me laugh when vegetarians believe that they're not contributing to the death of animals because they don't eat meat .😂😂😂

Wrong. I live in Spain and we export a f*ckton of tuna to Japan, and I can assure you that they are in no way illegal to sell. Business is business. Also, tuna is a big part of many many Mediterranean countries' traditional food culture, so that claim about Japan being the only country that fishes for tuna is just wrong. Admittedly there should be more conservation efforts to keep the tunas from extinction, but right now they are far from being.
