Fran and I drove through the night about 14 hours to document and explore Brushy Mountain State Prison. Since abandoned, it was passed down to locals in the area who's family worked for the prison over its entire reign as one of the states select few maximum security prisons. We were fortunate to gain access from the family so we spent about 8 hours going through the whole complex over and over to explore and document this amazing site. The prison is on a beautiful piece of land with its rear part of the complex secured from the amazing Cumberland plateau. Its also adjacent from the Frozen State Park even when you were locked up, you did have the opportunity to view another amazing view looking out. Every building was unique in it's own way which gave it so much character in all of our photos. The explore of the place was also just as amazing because of the history that lingered through the halls. Not only was it an amazing day but we all got amazing shots along with a very cool video. Thanks for reading!

Excellent production! Love the music choice. The interview pieces and voice-overs add so much depth. I love learning about the history of a place like this. The technical commentary about photography techniques is interesting as well. What a great blend of Urbex and Documentary. Cheers!

To those that are confused by all the RIP Becca’s. Rebecca Bunting was a well known urban explorer who lost her life while documenting a flash flood in a storm drain. She was swept off her feet and drowned by the raging waters of the Pennypack creek. As a life long East Tennessee resident I’ve lived close to Brushy Mountain Prison my whole life. My friend was a correctional officer out there for a few years. She was a nice lady, but didn’t take shit from anyone. She never had issues with anyone, but has some stories that will blow your mind. In prison where you have nothing what meager things you do have, like a candy bar is grounds for killing someone over.

That one cell with the days crossed off is either BS Or done after the prison closed. There is no way in hell you'd do your entire sentence in one cell. You're constantly moving. Whether it's Classification, disciplinary reasons, Or whatever.
@mikeoneil5770
@mikeoneil5770 3 жыл бұрын
I spent 14 calendar years in the Penitentiary and the longest I ever stayed in the same cell was a period of just over 3 years, but usually you could expect to be moved for some reason or another about once every 6 months or so; they really don’t like for you to get TOO comfortable...
@stephenflowers8516
@stephenflowers8516 3 жыл бұрын
@@mikeoneil5770 You're absolutely right. They definitely don't like you getting too comfy. I did 5 years and I was moved to 5 different units in 2 different prisons. So right about a year in each.
@mikeoneil5770
@mikeoneil5770 3 жыл бұрын
@@stephenflowers8516 The only reason I was allowed to stay in one cell for three calendar years was because I worked in the Industrial Laundry, so I lived on the “Honor Tier” (Workingman’s tier) and I was the ONLY MAN in the entire jail that could operate my machinery, at least, that was the case for 2 1/2 of those 3 years, so the administration pretty much left me alone, but in general you can count on being moved at least once or twice a year, just to shake things up and to keep you from getting too comfortable on any particular tier.. They move C.O.’s around, too- you’ll seldom see an officer work the same tier for more than a year at a time before they rotate him/her to a different assignment, so that they don’t lay down roots at any one post...

Don't know why the old prison closed but very good footage nonetheless. In Elmira NY there are a lot of abandoned places. One abandoned place in Elmira NY is an old Baptist Church on Church Street near Wisner park. It has been abandoned for 30 years or more. Everytime someone goes into these abandoned places in Elmira NY to film document the history and put it on KZbin they get the police called on them. Apparently people in Elmira NY don't want the history of these places filmed documented and put on KZbin. People who explore abandoned places assume all the risk of being injured they are liable for their own injuries if they get injured exploring abandoned places not the city or the owner of these abandoned places. Sincerely Robert Gildea Elmira NY

Why do most videos about Brushy say that they did executions? Their website even says they didn't. This one didn't say that.. They also never mention that James Earl Ray never stayed in the cell for very long, or he stayed at the Nashville Pen from time to time. And about the Moonshine, I found it local (Chattanooga, Tn) bought some, and I didn't like the taste, I think it is made with Rye.
