Started using it this week, but I'm having issues retargeting the animated rig from Rokoko to a rigged character in blender. I think I'm close to figuring out what is going on, but it is still amazing that motion capture like this is free. I wasted $60 on a Kinect 2.0 a few months ago just to achieve this same output.

Hey Landon, It's definitely fantastic that this is free, and regarding the retargeting, I did make a video on that which you can check out here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/opPZYqRuhNOeo8k I use Rokoko's blender addon for retargeting to an animation rig, then fixed the animation using the Animation Layers addon. Plask basically does the same job, but it is all in browser and is not as user friendly in my opinion. However, I do like the ability to import custom 3D models into Plask.

Is it a common issue for rokoko web not to sync to the app? I keep recording videos on the web application and I can't even access it when I open the desktop app. I know it's in the early stages. It's a good concept but still kind of sucks. The UI is really bad and it's not very user friendly.

Are you trying to open it in their Rokoko Studio Beta? Because it seems to only work with that one, and not their Legacy version.

Yeah that would definitely be cool with video. I believe you can do that with their motion capture suit though.

@@BrianKouhi That's right! Tho it's way above my budget :P With a kinect, it's possible to do, but the result is not really good unless using two of them which gets overcomplicated.

Is it possible to stack multiple animation coz It would b easier for me when exporting to game engine, everytime it creates a new rig

You should be able to stack multiple animations in a 3D software, like Blender, then export into a game engine.

Mocap has been a thing for a long time, this just makes it more accessible. Majority of shows and films don't actually use mocap even if they could, because hand keyed and stylized animation look completely different from mocap. Nothing to worry about :)

Tweak a couple of things? The end result is useless. Tweaking would take more time than animating from scratch.

Not necessarily. I did zero clean-up in Rokoko studio before exporting, and in Blender, I would have had to move the hip controller and rotate it upright to get a result I would have gotten with a full mocap suit. Then I'd start cleaning it up in Blender. It also depends what exactly your project requires, something short like a jumping jack might be better done by hand, versus some more longer & complex movements, which would benefit more from mocap.

100% Free! They want to get more people into mocap, and this is definitely the way to do it.

@@npatch As far as I know, they're using it to get people interested and comfortable with mocap, with the aim that it generates more sales for their paid motion capture suits. For those who want even better results.

@@BrianKouhi Hey, if it stays free in the foreseeable future, I'm happy. But free services like these don't stay free for long. And just look at how many people including yourself bask at how this is a game changer and it's free. You also mentioned how it gets you a long way ahead leaving a bit for you to polish. Now if that's free, it's reasonable that if studios/companies can work with that and still justify animator manhours over them for a fraction of the cost they'd allocate for hw, without having to buy the suits and gloves (which are sold separately), they'll keep using it. Not like suits give you super clean results 100% of the time. If people can work with that, they don't have a good enough reason to opt for suits, until the tradeoff favors the suits. Also another reason I'm saying it's only while it's in beta is that as soon as you try it, you get an email asking for feedback. Means they need it right now so they can't really justify getting money for it **yet**. Not saying it'll happen, but that's what I expect.

@@npatch They sell the suits and when you combine their expensive suits with the ai video it is Hollywood quality. Basically they are using it as a loss leader to get people into animation and when the successful new animators are ready to upgrade, they will go with Rokoko instead of their competition because they already know how to use the software. The cool thing is it is AI so it gets smarter the more people that use it which gives Rokoko another incentive to keep it free. Their only other option is to pay a bunch of people to use it for training. It is cheaper and faster data just to crowd source it, and there is no reason for them to stop. I bet it stays free for 5 years or longer.
