Not sure if you noticed, but the Marlow flashback closes the"plothole" in Aliens that the colonists never picked up the beacon from the Engineer spaceship and had to be told where to look by Burke.

Couple of tips for this game: Even if you're hiding under a table or whatever, if you can see the Alien in a clear line of sight, it can see *you* too. If you surprise attack it with the Flame Thrower, i.e. blast it before it's noticed you, it'll instantly retreat every time. For when its seen you, a 1-2 second-long continuous burst should be enough to drive it off, no matter how resistant it gets to simple short blasts. If it's in the vents drooling, you can blast the vent with the Flame Thrower and you'll hear the Alien scream as it flees. Putting down Molotovs and Pipe Bombs directly under vents will send the Alien straight back up into another one. Take caution though, sometimes the Alien will run to a completely different vent to escape. If you're in the way and with your back turned, you'll die if it runs into you. White eyes on an android means it's not hostile and won't attack, but they _will_ attack if attacked first, if you use certain terminals or sometimes even fire your weapons in front of them. Don't bother using the Flame Thrower on them, you may as well be smacking them with the wrench without zapping them first, a waste of fuel. Lastly, if you think the Alien is too aggressive on Hard mode, try Nightmare. Enjoy the torture.

You want to burst-fire, though- it consumes less fuel. Unless you're on Nightmare, in which case you should _never_ use it except as a last resort.

@@KalibreSteelblast I've personally found that burst-firing the Flame Thrower consumed more fuel, but whatever method works best, go with that. And yes, even on the lower difficulties, the Flame Thrower should be used only as a last resort. That's just out of sheer principle of practicality though.

I'm very late to this, but I LOVE playing on Nightmare mode. I have beaten the game 3 times on Nightmare alone & I just can't play the game on an easier difficulty anymore. The only time I'll play on an easier difficulty is when achievement hunting.

Also: Do a lot more walking than crawling. Walking is like 3x faster than crawling and barely louder. Often you get through a whole room walking before the Alien drops in. Crawling takes forever. Plenty of time for Alien to drop from a vent and start searching around.

The longer you stay in one place, the more precisely the Alien can sense where you are. Also, it can hear your motion tracker when you're very close. Also also, you can safely walk without crouching when it's in the vents. It won't hear you. Just don't run. Running is death.

Indeed. Instead of following a particular route and chase you when it sees you, the game tells the alien where are your position. It's like "Yo alien, she's over there somewhere. Go and search that area". Once the alien is near you long enough, then it will go away.

Interesting take for Prometheus, I had the understanding that the engineers had somehow became sterile and thus their species was dying out. However at some point they encounter the last of some alien creature that impregnates one of them. Thus they view it as sacred. Being engineers they create the black goo from the blood of the alien creature to seed worlds in order to carry on their species. @2:09:15

Pro tip: To free up inventory space just insert items into the individual crafting menu. The crafting items stay there and inventory space is freed to carry more. #2: androids white eyes mean friendly. Red eyes mean 'no no'.

In the book, the predator that helps machiko was actually the leader of the hunt. His whole party got killed durring that hunt and she got fully accepted by the leader and she later goes on to hunt other stuff with other predators. FANTASTIC book series. Makes me so happy to know you read them

He needs to stop over-relying on the tracker to figure out where the Xeno is. The thing puts off ambient noise, _everyone_ can hear it, even the xeno. It's the reason it keeps backtracking. He also needs to accurately assess the situation he's in. He killed friendly civilians thinking they were hostile, and attacked a Working Joe that was completely _non-hostile._

Max doesn't seem to understand the plot in the game and just does the objectives. whenever he bothers to use the map. At the point where the alien is always on his ass, it is because your objectives is to seal it into a confide area, multiple objectives where to seal off areas. So it is being trapped in a cage with you the more you complete the tasks. Similar to the 1st movie, you tried in story once or twice to box it and then get Ripply out of the box as you close it the box and throw away the key. Though the box strategy fails once or twice because of problems with the doors etc and it continues to be freed. So it's aggression is on point, not too much, since it is being Isolated by your group the more it pursues you.

They named Ridley (the dragon alien) after the Alien movie director. Mother Brain is both the name of the boss in Metroid and the ship computer. The Metroid creatures are based off of the hatchlings in that both attach to the victims face. The Space Pirates in Metroid/Metroid Prime are based off of the Predators. Finally, just like how the Predators use the Aliens for sport, the Space Pirates in the Metroid series would use the Metroid creatures as weapons or energy.

To be fair, _minimizing_ any contact with the Xeno is always a good idea. The fact that he waited so long to actually make items on _Hard_ difficulty is a good sign that he's getting used to the Xeno itself. It will _always_ be looking for you no matter what, but it's only ever going to search because it _suspects_ someone is around. The moment you use a distraction to draw its attention, it will know _something_ weird is going on; and the moment you actually engage it with an item is the moment it will _know_ you are around, as opposed to just suspecting. ... The problem is that while he's becoming adept at figuring out the Xeno's movements, he's not as good at assessing other situations. The Working Joe wasn't actually holding him back; his _fear_ that the Working Joe was actually hostile (when it actually wasn't) was the thing that tied him up. Other humans that he meant weren't always in his way; the ones in the Lorenz SysTech Lobby were actually friendly- it's scripted so that Ripley will tell them to head to the Marshal's Bureau.

The revisiting of the derilict alone makes it worth playing this game. This scene is a loveletter to every alien fan out there. The atmosphere is so dense and although you know whats coming from the first film, they managed to capture the same fear and wonder when you see the ship, see the spacejockey and go down the egg chamber. The first person perspective helps immensely to deliver the scale of it all, it just blew me away when I played it back then.

Watching Max plays makes me want to play this again! And I only just got the zero-death achievement two days ago! ^___^ I might do a Nightmare run, though- it's way more intense. >:D 1. The Xeno will show up in places it originally didn't, even relatively peaceful areas (like Seegson Synthetics when getting the compression cylinder). 2. It's far more aggressive and learns your tricks faster 3. You can't see your health bar, ammo, or flashlight battery power. 4. Two pistol shots will kill you, the androids can take more hits and also hit harder. 5. The tracker doesn't work _anywhere_ and will only tell you how far the Xeno is with the number counter (bottom-left corner) as well as the direction to your objective. 6. The amount of scrap lying around is reduced to about 10%. 7. You use up more flamethrower fuel per blast. 8. You have no map data. 9. The Xeno's escape tackle (when you torch it) _will_ kill you unless your health is topped off.

"It was written by James Cameron..." Max, I love you so much, but this is false information. The failed AVP film that was scrapped before the W.S. Anderson movie had NOTHING to do with James Cameron. One of the writers of that script was a James DiMonaco though. Something close to that. But Ridley Scott and James Cameron were working on pre-production for Ridley's Alien prequel idea in the early 2000s that was "Alien meets Chariot of the Gods". (This would become Prometheus over a decade later). But when the news that 20th Century Fox was moving forward with an Alien vs. Predator film reached Scott and Cameron, both stopped working on their Alien film, feeling the franchise was truly dead.

I've seen the actual full life sized alien queen in a movie prop museum exhibition (its animatronics had been removed) the end of its tail was missing (as it is in the final scene of Aliens)....thing was HUGE!!! even though you know its not real, its not alive, its not an actual alien and that its made of plastic and rubber and latex looking at its face, its Maw open revealing those huge teeth (as long as your finger) I still got a feeling of utter fear and dread and had to go look at the Original Predator head as a cold shiver slithered down my spine (I kept looking back at the queen just in case it had turned its head and was looking at me.)

I was 8 when I first saw Alien and it scared the absolute shit out of me. The Xenomorph was the literal embodiment of my nightmares. So while it is fun to see Max play this game I will never play it myself. Also highly recommend the Alien Isolation series on IGN, they not only put the story together in a more cinematic way but actually added to the character of Amanda Ripley.

The best way to get the alien off you is to distract him with items. I beat it using just a flare to send him to other rooms when I needed to progress. A noisemaker works well too but he doesn't stare at it for nearly as long as a flare. Alien likes bright red light.

Except if you just keep using one item...the alien will start to ignore it. So you can't keep using flares.

Is a must to use your items....a must. The key to mantain the Alien busy. I mostly used noise maker and molotov to confuse the Xenomorph.

Yeah the alien can't impregnate the synthoids, synthoids want it alive. Synthoids don't present heat IIRC. So I am assuming neither thinks of the other as a problem.

For the record: Even though the worlds and the crashed/landed spaceships resemble each other, Prometheus is set on a planetoid with the designation LV-223, while Alien takes place on LV-426 (aka Acheron). According to Ridley Scott, the two planetoids are in the same star system. The two ships in Alien and Prometheus are different. According to Scott, the derelict spaceship seen in Alien was similar to the one shown in Prometheus, but was in fact a "brother," not the same ship. He suggests that the ship originated from LV-223, carrying dangerous cargo and landed on LV-426 more than a millennium before the events in both movies. This suggests that the xenomorph infestation on LV-426 originated from the facility on LV-223 and that the events shown in the holographic footage in Prometheus may be related to how the (then known as) "space jockey" Engineer died. It is unknown whether the ship on LV-426 carried eggs that hatched and infected the Engineer(s) or if it was carrying the containers with the black substance shown in Prometheus.

I'm shocked that I beat this game back then, the horror elements were super effective on me, it's long as fuck and definitely doesn't make it easy for you to know what to do. These videos made me remember how good this shit is. Glad Max gave it a second chance.
