On velocity check a few loading manuals and see what velocities they are getting with similar weight bullets. In the Hornady #7 they use a Ruger Redhawk with 7.5 inch barrel and get 1600 fps with the 200 gr XTP. With the180 gr they get the same 1600 fps. The rifle they use is a Ruger carbine with an 18 inch barrel. The 180 gr gets 2200 fps, the 200gr gets 2100 fps. Adding the extra 2 inches on a Marlin might gain another 100 fps. Way back when I was a kid Super Vel loaded a 180 gr hp to a high velocity that didn't expand much, they wanted to get max penetration, perhaps the PMA bullet is built the same to get the same performance.

@Peter Angles Can't help but notice you joined YT fairly recently and have zero content, so I can only assume you are a troll with no experience beyond Nerf and airsoft. Prove me wrong by actually making an intelligent, reasoned, and experience-based argument about WHY a bull-barreled production revolver (with a 2-7X scope, and fired from a good rest) is manifestly incapable of shooting two-inch groups at 100 yards. Please bear in mind the IHMSA shooters who hit targets at 200 meters with open sight revolvers resting across their legs, and a certain well-known competition shooter who has hit 1,000 yard targets on more than one occasion with handguns sporting red dot optics.
@noahmercy-mann43232 жыл бұрын
@Peter Angles Heres an idea...instead of throwing some terminology out that you think makes you SEEM knowledgable, tell me HOW those things keep a quality handgun firing quality ammunition from producing two inch groups at 100 yards. Since the three custom shops you listed don't manufacture revolvers, how are they pertinent? What part of the "production engineering" precludes two-inch 100 yard groups? To what "ballistic effect" are you referring and how does it limit groups to greater than approximately 2 MOA? Where is it written that pistols are inaccurate? What aspect of the "loadings" would keep it from being accurate when benchrest handloads from rifles are capable of groups less than 1/10 the size of my revolver's? Please feel free to use the Greenhill formula to show me how the twist rate is inadequate to stabilize 200 or 300 grain bullets. Looking forward to being educated by you, since you are apparently such a brilliant firearms expert...
@noahmercy-mann43232 жыл бұрын
@Peter Angles So in short, you are not competent or capable enough to explain how any of those big words you randomly tossed out pertain to accuracy, or shown how they absolutely, positively PREVENT a revolver from shooting two inch groups at 100 yards as you claim. You believe that because YOU are incapable of doing it, that means everyone else is as well, implying you believe yourself to be at least as good as the best shooters in the world. And you end on the statement that you have a relative who is an Olympic coach and you positively know what he would do when presented with my targets. Cool. Well, I guess you sure showed me... 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
@noahmercy-mann43232 жыл бұрын
@Peter Angles Ah, deflection and ad-hominems. The final resort of the ignorant and embarrassed. If I am a "fool" as you claimed twice, then what does that make you, who has refused to answer even ONE of my questions? Those who equate "educated" with "intelligent" are often neither. What laws of physics precludes spin-stabilized lead and gilding metal projectiles launched by a handgun from landing within a set distance from one another when rifles can put them touching at the same distance? And face it, it is not that you don't NEED to explain it to me, it is that you are not capable, since there is no scientific, mechanical, or ballistic reason it can't be done. But I'll humor you; just list a couple of those books you refer to that prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that I haven't done what I claimed. I probably have them in my extensive firearms and handloading library (nearly 700 books and over 800 magazines). If not, I have access to the firearm research library at the Buffalo Bill Center of the West. But I bet at least one of them is next to the August, 1994 "Guns & Ammo" in which Ross Seyfried shot a 100 yard group with a revolver that was under ONE inch. Have a great day, pumpkin...just know that you're special, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. 😘

As you have probably noticed while shooting lever guns, the PMC is a slower burn ammo that really needs a longer barrel to get the full rated velocity. This characteristic results in a 50-60% increase in velocity with an 18" rifle barrel and the slow burn softens a bit of the recoil so they are easier to put on target and get good groups. For max velocity with a 4" barrel, Buffalo Bore and Hornady tend to deliver the goods.
@mcburcke6 ай бұрын
One little-known thing about the PMC load...apparently they had a run of ammo boxes for it that listed an erroneous fps rating. Later runs of that loading were corrected with a fps rating around 1350fps. on the boxes. Out in the retail world, both boxes got randomly mixed together all over the place. The PMC lead formulation is always hard as a rock, for some reason.

I was hoping you tested it, and of course you did, from a revolver and a rifle. I’m guesstimating that the advertised speed is from an 8” barrel. My tool is a ported 5 1/8” Raging Hunter, so I won’t get close to that. Oh well, it will work for range ammo at that price. Is your trigger as awful as mine? @@leonhart2452 The last inch of "barrel" is ported. Not only that but it is not rifled and is a larger diameter than the barrel itself. Glad to see 44Mag testing! PMC performed as expected, Hornady was the star. That's a great load.

I wonder if pmc figured these would be used in a rifle and that's where the got their numbers from. Their test barrel may have been 20 inches. Either that or they were embarrassed by the performance and wanted to save face printing thise velocities on the box thinking noone would ever test them. Just thinkin out loud. Excellent video.

The PMC would probably work okay in a levergun but it might be too fast and just break up.

Great video, again 👍 I often wonder about using rounds like the PMC instead of buying more expensive hard cast. I don’t know, a tiny bit of expansion with plenty of penetration seems like it would work just fine in any situation needing a hard cast 🤷♂️

The 240 XTP in .454 are the most accurate out of my Raging Hunter. I've tried a box of all brands & weights. After 200 rds, ill never buy anything other than the xtp. Now if I was in grizz/brown territory, the heavy Underwood or Buffalo bore it is. But for everything else, 240 xtp reigns.

I have one of those guns and I love it but what I don’t understand is The barrel concept on this. When I bought it I thought it was a 4 inch ported barrel I later realized it is only a 3 inch barrel that builds pressure behind the projectile and then the 4th inch has no barrel whatsoever. So it’s a three inch barrell with a one inch ported “area” that contains no barrel in it. Does anyone know what was the purpose of this design?
