I love seeing tenpin bowlers try to bowl candlepins. Most are aggravated at first but want to try again. Just because the balls are small doesn't mean it's easy.

Canada also has 5 pin bowling. Which uses similar size ball (possibly the same, never candlepin bowled before). I don't know it that well, but I think you get 3 shots in it as well. Counts as Strike then spare then pin count. Pin values are 5 for middle, 3 for next closest and 2 for corners for 15 total pin count per frame.

@@TheHouseBowling That lawn game with the square pins and then you throw the round throwing stick each side trying to knock over the pins Kubb. That is one of the hardest games I have ever played. Due to Eu Clare dubbed the capital of Kubb in North America in 2011 not to far from some of my relatives, it is not a surprise they showed us the game in 2014. That is one of the hardest games for bowling and ot make it harder the stick must be thrown under hand with the stick going end over end at least at first until the ground interferes. One of the toughest bowling like games I have ever played.

Candlepin centers are so cool because they are generally older. This center doesn't have arrows on the lanes! A lot of centers also have the ball returns on 1, 2-3, 4-5, etc...because it was easier for the pinboys to go back and forth between lanes that way (lanes 1-2 etc.)

@erikthorstensen5185 2 жыл бұрын
It is,and it isn't. It is in that anyone from 2 to 102 can roll a 2.6 pound ball at the pins. But as a professional candlepin bowler, it can be very frustrating. Look at the 4.59 mark. Plucking a 2 or 3 pin without taking anything else is common. Or shooting the dead wood can be challenging to. For instance say you are shooting at the 8 pin and a piece of dead wood is in front at an angle, or whatever. That shot isn't going. But in cases like splits like the dreaded 7-10. If there's wood,it might go.

I grew up on 5 pin, switched as a teen to 10 pin. I loved tournaments and while at one, afterwards we went out and tried other types. 5 pin in Canada, duckpin in Quebec, 10 pin all over north America and the candlepin in the northeast. Candlepin is the most aggravating $#@^/$%÷× up type of bowling there is. But it was hilariously fun to watch others get the same $@$÷$^ results. I used to be able to rocket that little ball back in the day, but I still sucked. Only ever hit 100 once, no strikes at all. Great beer game though as anyone can win. I miss those days.

Duckpin is fun. As a candlepin bowler, the slightly larger ball used in duckpins is difficult, but when I’ve bowled duckpins, it appears that they either allow candlepin balls, or have a range of diameters they allow. Anyway, I don’t like to say that any of these games are “harder” or “easier.” To be a good tenpin bowler, you have to have a consistent strike ball, and pick up every spare that you can. In candlepins, you basically need to aim for the head pin, and hope for the best, and pick up spares when you can. Duckpins certainly requires more strikes than candlepins, and so you have to be on the head pin big time. They are all great games. I understand how the lower scoring can be frustrating to the tenpin bowler though. I don’t think there has ever been a really good candlepin bowler with a hook. There used to be some who had a slow ball with a little bit of backup on it (left to right for a righty), but no righty with a right to left hook has ever been particularly successful. You just can’t control it with the size of the ball, and the lack of oil on the lane.

@@johnm112 I’ve bowled ducks for the past 20 years and was practically raised in a duckpin home because both my mom and dad bowled ducks their entire lives. I can say for a fact candlepin is much more difficult than duckpins. Even though you get to keep deadwood on the lane, the size of the ball and lane conditions are exponentially more difficult to account for than duckpins.

I grew up in the '70s playing at the Family Fun Center in Falmouth MA. I'm glad this place is still open, but those lanes are a disgrace.

Happy Birthday, Maddy! Great vid, Packy. Seems like candlepin is harder than duckpin. What do you think?

I've bowled both. Candlepin, and duck pin very similar. The candlepin ball is slightly smaller in size and weight. Other than the playing the dead wood,both versions are equally as hard. In know in candlepin, there has never been a perfect game. I'm not sure about duck pin.
