I think the issue of "Just fall back a little and wait" is hard for lower ranks to understand. In bronze, if you aren't respawning the "only" other option is engaging. I think it's one of the most important lessons someone can point out, because it can entirely change the mindset of the player. Even in gold you see people struggle with the choice of falling back, using cover, and regrouping. Your spectating videos are always nice to watch because you give really solid advice!

I'm the Reinhardt that was shield-walking way too much. That pin that happened towards the end at 30:27... I realised that with no supports, I just went for the charge considering I was sure I wasn't going to make it to a health pack in time. I watched the VOD a few days ago, and your tips really helped! I went from Bronze 5 to Bronze 4, jumped to Bronze 1, and I’m now a silver tank! Fully expecting to go back to bronze or to float in and out of bronze/silver though! And yes, I somehow survived that encounter by slowly walking to a mega health pack in the petrol station. What was interesting that isn’t in the final cut is that shortly afterwards, Echo decided to use her ult and change to Moira… even though I was right next to her. And that flanking Ana was really not doing much healing.

I think the tip to play around corners and walls is so important. I've noticed it throughout my games where whole team is playing in the open too often that they take too much unnecessary damage without gaining any map control. You want to charge your team ult economy and limit your opponents by playing behind these walls

A lot of things to say about his play, but honestly? I can't believe this is Bronze in OW2. I'm so proud of how quickly this community is growing. I used to see worse Reins than this in Gold all the time back in OW1. Keep on Keep on my dude.

Hearing you talk about team comp makes me wonder what specifically we should look for when choosing heroes especially when solo queuing to try creating a good comp.
@whaloob
@whaloob Жыл бұрын
Seconded. Especially when solo queuing. For any given incoherent mix of characters my teammates could pick, it’d be nice to have a decent idea of who to pick to make the most out of it. It definitely comes with time though, the more you play, the more you get an intuition for who can capitalize the strengths of your teammates the best.

Depends on the map, your locked role, what the enemy team is rolling with and counterpicking something particularly annoying. Understanding basic team composition concepts like dive and simple pairing synergies like Sigma + Zenyatta poke or Pharmercy goes a long way to help you learn more with your OW soloQ experience.
@SilastheMatchmaker

A lot of it isn't really easy to explain and it's not black and white. A lot of it comes down to how well the characters synergise with each other and how well they work on a certain maps. (Like you don't want to play Widow on maps without good sightlines, because she *needs* good sightlines to do well. Just like how Junkrat does great in enclose spaces. All things that just come with time tbh.) Ngl, I also just don't think team comps are always as big of a deal or concern outside of higher elos. Especially since a lot of what makes the synergy of some characters so good in those higher elos relies on a lot of teamwork and communication (or understanding of their character/role) that usually isn't present to that extent in lower ranks.

3:42 something that has helped me a lot as a support main is thinking about all of my hero's abilities not as MY abilities but as my TEAM'S resources. I think this could work for tanks too, maybe? it's not YOUR shield/mitigation ability, it's your team's. this does NOT mean you can't ever use it just for yourself. sometimes shielding "selfishly" is the right play. but thinking of it as a team resource that you are in charge of using might be helpful because then you're always thinking, "okay, how do I use this to benefit my team? how do I use this to win the fight for and WITH my team?" I think maybe that could help with reducing the instinct to just shield because you can. but again, I'm not a tank player and I'm sure this framework will not be helpful for everyone. I still wanted to share just in case.

I've been playing a lot more Rein since OW2 released and that's basically how I've started seeing the shield. Granted I don't think about it that much in the middle of the fight, but I tend to keep it down unless my team is taking fire and there's not much else I can do (though I bring it up and down while moving in so it doesn't break/my supports get ult charge off me). The only times I really just hold it up are when I'm blocking for a rezzing Mercy or low HP teammate, blocking an ultimate, protecting my team from a good widow, or if I'm low hp myself.

Classic big slams. Big slams across the board. Lmao I have tears in my eyes Edit: the chain of events at 30:38 tho While he’s swinging on the reaper i yelled, “I believe in you!” 13 hp and a dream with the enemy rein coming in hot lmao “Ana’s like I’m 1v1ing this Moira. You need heals? Too bad.” 🤣😭😭😭

Bastions are a pain when playing Rein the lay into your shield as soon as they see it.
@tomnguyen8546
@tomnguyen8546 Жыл бұрын
Yeah that's why you keep it in your head and plan for it upon first engagement. Just make sure you have some cover, walls, and corners near you when you see Bastion. If you're caught, then use your shield to move to cover. Then wait it out. Once he's done then you can reattack

I always say, If more Reinhardt players would just stand there with their shield up their win rates would skyrocket. We all know that the typical Rein player has about a 65% chance of completely throwing the game by suicide charging off a cliff, or randomly going in 1v5 when you have a perfect defense going, or deciding they need to chase the enemy team all the way back to spawn after winning 1 fight. For most Rein players, we all know that just having their HP and shield to distract the enemy would be 100X more valuable than whatever it is they think they are doing

@@misery4407 and (if we set aside the couple of years I wasn't playing but was consuming ow content on the daily) I've been playing for like three years and I peaked at like 2880 in 2019. the length of time isn't relevant, imo, and it doesn't say anything about what you're capable of. it just means that you're in silver right now. and because climbing can be really difficult and it does take time, you might be in silver for a little while longer. but I know you are perfectly capable of climbing. it's really hard to figure out exactly what you need to do to start, but that's why there's a community. I'm sure emongg has a text channel in his discord where you can ask for tips or for someone to look at a replay and offer advice on where to start. sometimes just hearing some feedback from someone else is all it really takes to identify a few concrete things that you most need to work on and strategies for how to improve on those specific things. I'm not a tank main, I don't play tank or dps because I don't enjoy them lol so I wouldn't feel qualified to give that kind of feedback. but I know there are so many tank players who are fucking nerds about tanking and love to talk about what good tanking looks like and all about the mechanics and subtleties of each hero. you just gotta find where those people are and ask questions and learn from them. emongg's discord is probably the best place to start because you'll probably find a lot of tank players there! as an example, I play a lot of mercy, and I searched for a mercy guide and found niandra's videos. their guides are very straightforward and simple and easy to understand so I focused on using damage boost more often and using it on specific ally abilities (instead of just "damage boost more 4Head") and working on making sure I always had natural cover because sometimes shields melt or teammates drop them unexpectedly. those are two pretty simple and fundamental things and learning how to do the fundamentals more effectively was a BIG game changer for me. so while obviously what you need to work on will be different from what I needed and still need to work on, the idea is the same: there are probably very simple changes and adjustments you can make right now that will get you started. it's just a matter of figuring out what those things are - what feels easiest and most approachable to you -- and figuring out specific but common situations where you can implement those changes
@sethescope
@sethescope Жыл бұрын
@@misery4407 there's really no secret to it. it's just knowing what you need to change and trying to make those changes in every game (and watching replays to look more objectively at the games as a whole and see how you really did). and it takes time and intentional practice. which is hard! you have a life lol you have work or school and everything else to deal with. this stuff takes time, but just because it takes time doesn't mean it's impossible or that you're not capable of it.
