@TP4554
@TP4554 4 жыл бұрын
@@Baffuteagle because the overwhelming majority of people buying pre built PCs don't have a clue about components nor do they want to spend any amount of time learning about any of that. That's the reason they buy a pre built PC. They want to tell a salesman what they want to run on it and hope the salesman tells them "this can run that". Also since people who would even consider buying a pre built PC usually buy one every 15 to 20 years Intel's dominance from the early days (which very much used to be a thing back then) still lingers. TLDR: Nobody who knows anything about components buys a pre built PC.

@@auturgicflosculator2183 Hi John, I think your information is a bit outdated and innaccurate. First Intel. Only some of Intel's lineup support AVX512. For example, none of the 10th Gen Desktop chips support AVX 512, this include things like their "flagship" Core-i9 10900K. With mobile chips, only some of them support AVX512, and many don't. In addition, Intel disable AVX and AVX2 on all their Celeron and Pentium chips, even the latest 10th gen chips. AMD on the other hand never disable AVX/AVX2 on their budget chips. Now AMD. AMD chips do not support AVX512 yet (although it's rumored to be coming before the end of the year). The first and second gen Ryzen (Zen 1 and Zen 1+) chips did support all the 256bit AVX2 instructions, but did so at half speed. All of the more recent Ryzen chips (Zen 2), anything released after June 2019, do in fact, run the 256bit AVX2 instructions at full speed. You don't need to believe me, try reading a review of the 3800X from almost a year ago: www.tomshardware.com/reviews/amd-ryzen-7-3800x-review,6226-10.html I'll quote: "We can also see the vast improvement in Ryzen's AVX performance in the y-cruncher tests: We would never have imagined such a massive generational leap, particularly in single-threaded performance. The work AMD has done here is truly impressive and benefits a wide range of professional applications." or try another review: www.anandtech.com/show/14605/the-and-ryzen-3700x-3900x-review-raising-the-bar/2 where they say: "there’s one obvious new chance in the 3900X and Zen2: the inclusion of 256-bit wide datapaths. The new AGU and path changes mean that the core is able to now handle 256-bit AVX instruction once per cycle which is a doubling over the 128-bit datapaths of Zen and Zen+." Lastly, did you see JayzTwoCents latest video, he admits that he made a mistake about this.

To clarify, the idea that Ryzen "doesn't support AVX" comes from the fact that Intel CPUs use two 128-bit AVX execution units per core, allowing two 128-bit AVX instructions or one 256-bit AVX instructions to be executed in a single cycle, while Zen and Zen+ only have a single execution unit, allowing only a single 128-bit AVX instruction per cycle and requiring 256-bit instructions to be broken in half and completed over two cycles. Zen 2 CPUs don't have this problem, they have dual AVX units per core. AMD also have no CPUs on the market with AVX-512 support, while Intel only implements it in Xeon and X-series parts, mostly because it's use is extremely specialised due to it's enormous memory bandwidth requirements and power draw.
@Xirtamani
@Xirtamani 4 жыл бұрын
It's not called AVX-128 (and not correct technically either, AVX uses 256 already) and not AVX-256 but rather AVX and AVX2. But DAAMN, Jay not knowing shit about a (nowadays) basic instruction being able to be used by AMD-CPUs since Bulldozer (AVX2 then by Excavator) is embarassing. Even more so since it was even talked about recently with the news with the Matlab/Intel MKL-Bullshit with Intel shutting down AVX-use by non-Intel-processors.

10:00 That's not true. Ryzen has supported AVX and AVX2 since Zen 1. Zen 2 made AVX2 faster by increasing the width of the FPU's, so it's now on par with Intel with AVX2 instructions. However Timespy favors Intel, it isn't by having AVX instructions.
@photonboy999
@photonboy999 4 жыл бұрын
Does Timespy favor Intel now though? And when you say "favors Intel" do you mean the code is optimized towards Intel or Intel CPU's are winning simply because they run at a higher frequency? You didn't specify a specific Intel CPU so it feels like you are implying some bias in the code (which may or may not be true). So it feels like the best way to test this would be to have a modern representative from both Intel and AMD run at the same frequency. Say, 4.0GHz... Either way, I tried to Google for comparisons of the AMD Ryzen 3000 series and Intel's 9000/10000 series and i found evidence that the scores are similar but I couldn't find any reliable links... I can't find ANY evidence that Timespy currently favors Intel simply because of architecture.
@Kankipappa
@Kankipappa 4 жыл бұрын
@@photonboy999 Pretty sure it's the cpu optimizations. I can't now find the youtube video about when zen was released, but on quake2 if you compiled the renderer with amdnow! support (that was dropped from amd cpus like a decade ago), 1700X was actually faster on his youtube comparison than the optimized intel in the game - which was kinda weird that and old amdnow! code would still work in anyway good. It just tells me that there are many ways of optimizing your speed and lets be honest here, AMD is the underdog in both CPU and GPU, when it comes to software optimizations by 3rd parties. Hell even Microsoft managed to show how bad the OS is for anything that isn't a Intel CPU clone that got patched up by many times on Win10 already. Nvidia has less raw power on most rendering when it comes to the similar gpu prices head to head, while still wrecks amd gpu's, until the later aka mysterious "fine wine" tech appears.
@TrueThanny
@TrueThanny 4 жыл бұрын
@@photonboy999 I don't really know if it does or doesn't, but I've seen plenty of CPU reviews which show the Ryzen chip beating the comparable Intel chip in Firestrike, then losing in Timespy, so just assumed Jay was talking about Timespy when he just said 3DMark. I don't know if that's actually a consistent thing, or what the reason might be. It could be Intel optimizations, or it could be Timespy being more sensitive to memory and cache latency.

Excited for Zen 3? Sure, but if I were you I might be more excited with the fact that games are getting better THREADED as time goes on and that the 2020 consoles will accelerate these code changes for newer games... in some games you will currently have a CPU BOTTLENECK despite using, say, only 2/3rds of your CPU processing power. So in the future there are two main ways YOU will see better performance assuming the game is CPU bottlenecked (not graphics or storage)-> #1) you bought a CPU with same or more cores that is faster per core (like R5-4600), or #2) the game utilizes your existing CPU cores better That won't help existing games if you have a CPU bottleneck and want higher FPS but if your goal is to achieve a good FPS in a 2022 game for example, then by then the issue may simply solve itself with better coding.

@@photonboy999 TO BE FAIR, current consoles are 8 cores. GRANTED, 8 "slow" cores, but still 8 cores. The multi-threaded workloads are there. New consoles are continuing that trend. The real kick is the single core performance, on all 8 cores, plus the much faster gpu. EVEN WITH utilizing 8 cores NOW on cross-platform games (COD, COD Warzone, Apex Legends) 6 core cpu's still hold firm. In that regards, an 8 core might show 20-30% utilization, while a 6 core will show 50-70% utilization. obviously a 4 core 8 thread might struggle depending on age with minor stutters (thinking to Dr Disrespect with his 4 core 8 thread intel gaming rig, it stutters in cod because it does in fact want more cores). Even when the new consoles come, we still wont see huge changes. Consoles never fully utilize its own hardware these days. Otherwise cross-play games would be using more like 80-90% utilization on all 8 cores. I have tested COD Warzone on an AMD 8350 which many will claim "isn't a true 8 core" and yet it runs great, no stutters, and the utilization is nowhere near 100% on every core.... and the reason i bring that up, is that the current consoles are "jaguar cores" which are "slightly" newer than the 8350 "Piledriver", so if consoles were using all 8 cores at a high load %, then the same should be said for an 8350, and it doesn't happen. Its only about half, 55% ish load on all 8 cores. Still more than say a ryzen 1800x which barely see's 20% load on a handful of cores..... but still.

Would these chips be compatible with a x470 board right away or would I have to install a updated bios?

Zen has AVX2, Zen2 has AVX2. AMD does not have an AVX512 product, but you can only get AVX512 on Intel's server chips anyway. Yes, Zen's AVX2 might not be as fast as Skylake's, but not by that much.

Hi, i want to upgrade my system but a lot has changed sinds my last purches in 2012. What is a good razen 3300x - motherbord (chipset) combo in this budget range and what ddr4 speed range best to use?

This is an insane deal... Especially since the I7 7700k is still going for £300 and you can get the same performance for 1/3 of that price with the 3300x

hmmmmm... Jay, since when AMD CPUs don't have AVX? Zen 2 chips even has AVX2 instructions. The only missing ones are AVX512 if I'm not mistaken and those are used in very rare cases...

Looking to update my aging I7 950! I do photo editing and this system has treated me well for a good 10 years but it's time to upgrade, might get this! Gaming isn't a big priority and I just want faster exports for photos all that jazz. Thanks for the vid!

I would love to see testing newer CPUs and older GPUs to see how many were held back when they were new.

Hey Jay I think your mistaking AVX for TSX Instructions. TSX is exclusive to Intel, AVX has been around since the AMD FX Line and AVX 128 and 256 Eg. AVX 2 has been supported since Zen 1 @Jayztwocents
