When you get to the drawers, your setup is completely wrong, but you'll eventually figure that out. Oddly enough, I also have had one of those for a while and finally used it the same day you posted this video. It's an amazing jig!! I love it!!

Saw the same gadget on Essential Craftsman KZbin channel about two weeks ago. Beats the heck out of building your own jigs or screwing up the alignment on your doors & drawers.

I'm a carpenter and do cabinetry installation for millworkers and this jig is clutch. Just to mention that although I whole heartedly agree with you at around @3:25 that the hole placement shouldn't be close to the edge of the door/drawer - if you ever did need to creep closer, just reverse the large stop so that the protrusion with the set screw faces the other way and you can get much closer to the ruler. They also sell attachments to drill out for shelf pins at set increments making it dummy proof - and the bonus is that those attachments can be used for oversized handles (ie for pantries or appliances). Totally worth the investment if you find yourself doing loads of cabinetry work, it's so versatile!

Thank you for this response. I’ve always been curious if these tools are worth it and this one looks like it is. I don’t do cabinets often, but when I do I hate putting on doorknobs. You know what I mean I’m tired of fighting with Siri.

I got a 2-piece plastic template set from Home Depot that I used to put the handles on all of the doors and drawers in my kitchen. It cost under $15 and worked well. I used it to mark the holes and then drilled them out separately, not through the template.
@stich1960
@stich1960 2 жыл бұрын
Yes but these jigs greatly reduce the chance of doing it wrong which as a contractor is your worst nightmare especially on wood finish. The templates are fine for one off deals and diyers, worst case you live with a wood filled hole.
@jackmandu
@jackmandu 2 жыл бұрын
@@stich1960 - I can see where a pro would prefer the jig, but for DIY projects the plastic templates are way better than trying to make a jig, as well as way cheaper than the professional jig. As long as you stick to the measure twice, cut (or drill) once principle you shouldn’t have any issues with the plastic jig. I would also recommend not drilling through the templates holes, like you can with the metal jigs, in order to avoid making the holes bigger with each use.

These beat those jigs by a mile. Also, there are import versions for around $30 on Amazon that work exactly the same way.

@@jackmandu Even checking twice it can get confusing, you can 3d print a jig like the one in the video for free if thats an option too. I plan on making up a nicer version of the one thats availble on thingi eventually

Another great tutorial. Thank you for making these videos. I started watching your channel for the drywall help, and now anything you do a video on, I'm going to watch it. I have a kitchen install to do on my house, so this will definitely be handy. I can always sell it used after I'm done. Same thing with the flat box I bought for my drywall work on this house. I might be able to get back 30% when I'm done with it.

Pretty gutsy drilling all those holes without checking one pull first. I used a Kreg ( not his real name) handle installing tool...what a disappointing piece of schizen..not enough capacity. Down here in Socal everybody needs jungle gym sized pulls cause they do too much crossfit/keto and I don't see the trend dissipating. Pro Tip: when using any jig on a 5 panel door...make sure the width of the stiles are all the same (don't ask me how I know this). Even if that jig you have there is 2 grand it's worth it if it keeps you from screwing up a bunch of doors that might take weeks to recreate. Your drywall videos have helped tremendously...Thank you!

Just a thought on adjusting the spacing for the screw holes. Cut off the heads of 2 screws , screw them into the handle , insert into jig,

I bought a knockoff from Amazon. I only use it to mark the holes with a pencil. Then like a freak I measure 10 times before drilling. The one problem I ran into on a drawer front is that the drawer wasn't made exactly square which dropped one side of my pull over 1/16 or more

That looks like it makes it easier to get it right every time, but as a DIYer, it's more than I'd spend for occasional use. If I were a pro, I'd definitely buy one.

Your measuring stop from the edge of the door has been put on backwards. Turning it around and you'll be able to get your holes closer to the edge. Thanks for your videos.

You could loosen the 2 hole jigs put screws throught each one into the handle then tighten them down, right? Holes are perfect distance apart!

I feel like that tool would be very useful. Because cutting a piece of wood, every single job, you do drilling holes to make it a custom fit to each job would take more time out of your day. As they’re having a tool that might cost you 100 bucks at first, but saves you hours of labor time which pays for itself probably in a couple of jobs.

just an idea for when setting the handle screw hole center widths on the jig could you not put the screws through from the rear of the jig through the drill hole opening to set the distance more easier

I wonder if they let you drill from both side? So the hole on the back doesn't get blown out? Saves you from having to have a backer when drilling.

Looks good but with the templates that I have made for my wife, some way to clamp it looks necessary for her. Additional hint I usually keep (2) 2 inch 8x24 headless screws and use them to ensure spacing. Toward the end this it smells expensive $200+ US. Also, for my wife it looks dangerous. I like the plastic and or wood template for her new painted cabinets so not to mar the finish.
