Think of how many were scraped because there was no option to overhaul and improve them over time. Like all cars.

The British use mixed units. If you watch Carwow drag races they report the motor power in HP and the Torque in NM. Also, charge ports have a cover over them. Sometimes it takes a minute to scrape off ice.

Snow is very rare in Britain and virtually unknown in the London habitat of these taxis, so not really an issue.

The (imperial) mile is a British unit used in the UK, US and the UK territories. The UK uses imperial for distances and fuel consumption (mpg). Europe and the rest of the world use the metric systems for everything. Most UK content will mention miles and mpg. 👍

Not the first all electric taxi. That was Dynamo Motors converting the Nissan eNV200 Evalia, into TFL Black Cabs, unfortunatly when Nissan discontinued the eNV200 dynamo couldn't get a new car to base their cabs on. And they went bankrupt in 2022. Which i don't understand as there was an EV Berlingo availabe at the time. I think that this is a great idea to reduce, reuse and recycle. The only problem is, some local authorities outside of London, where TFL run things, age out cars based on age, milage, or emissions. There would have to lots of stuff to do, they might as well nuts and bolts resoreation and then EV convert it, so it would be a 'new' car. Thats the only way i could see it being done here in the UK.

Where does the ramp for wheelchair users go, normally stored in the boot but it's not going to fit due to the battery in the rear? As it's a standard feature for Black London taxis. It's not needed for private hire or if the taxi is converted for other uses.
@jeromeandre49154 ай бұрын
there is a cut out, folding ramp on the floor of these cabs.
@stevenmccolm15314 ай бұрын
@@jeromeandre4915 , I used to drive the TX1 SE for a charity and this also has a folding section for the portable ramp to be clamped in place and extended to allow the wheelchair users to access the cab from the pavement or uneven surfaces. I even had to show licenced taxi drivers how to use the ramp and the swivelling seat. This means that the ramp will have to be stowed in the front where the jumpseat passenger would normally sit. The TX1 that I drove could carry six passengers. Five in the back and one in the front. It had the Nissan 2.7L diesel engine and on a good day had an 12-15 mpg in London traffic 6-9 mpg. Top recorded speed of 97mph.

Price of the conversion? If it's anywhere near the price of a new LEVC taxi then it's a non starter. Those old diesel cabs are also uncomfortable compared to the LEVC cabs.
@stevenmccolm15314 ай бұрын
The TX range of cabs weren't meant for long journeys, just short hops from one side of London to the other. The main problem being the driver's seat is fixed so the cab space is limited. The LEVC isn't that much better in the front. Cost is the main issue even if you have a leasing agreement. They do make excellent private vehicles when the partition is removed and the rear seats are moved forward so there's more luggage space at the rear.

I am a bit concerned regarding the drivers hand position on the steering wheel. Moving on from that. The key point is this video is about removing the diesel engine from a London cab and putting in a battery and electric motor. This is not a new idea, there are lots of videos on KZbin if you hunt around where companies are doing this. Lunaz at Silverstone - their website will cause your eyes to pop out of their sockets. This is a great idea and I think within a few years there will be many more companies doing this. Ironically scrapped Tesla's are very sought after to provide parts for these types of conversions.

Charles. This channel is dedicated to converted to EV Powertrain vehicles. This unique bit here is it is for a taxi cab, driving in London where Diesel vehicles are forbidden / have to pay a daily fee to drive in the city. Unfortunately Lunaz has gone under administration.
