What a brilliant idea! I’ve been using refillable marker pens for dyes and Tokenole for a couple of years, but it hadn’t occurred to me to use them for adhesive! I’ll certainly give them a try when I next need to order adhesive.

What a brilliant idea! I really struggle with gluing. I’m clumsy, & so often end up with glue on the grain side. Will definitely be trying these.❤

They are very much worth it for how easy and accurate they are to use 👍

Could you use this with a water and Tokonol mix for edge burnish application?

Yes you can! I buy refillable marker pens and fill them with a Tokenole and water mix, it works really well.

Thank you so much, Jo, for the superb videos Edit: I've just tried the heat up technicnic on water-base glue, it works wonderfully!

I make such a mess with glue. It leaves spots on my projects sometimes. This is a great idea for disorderly people like me. I like it. Will definitely try it. Cheers 🙂

Thank you 😊 I haven't used the barges leather glue you mentioned, but I haven't had any issues with this one. I find it works best if you heat the glue a bit with a heat gun once it's been applied 👍

What is the glue strength like? I use Ecostick 1816b and sometimes rely on it for places I can’t stitch. Will this do as well?

I used this glue on the handle of the tool roll video I made and that was not stitched, I have had no issues with that 👍

Nice video! My only concern with these is that over time the nib of the makers will dry and get stiff and be really unpleasant to work with. How have you found them over the long term?

I've not had any issues with the drying out. You so also get some replacement tips should you need to change them 👍

After using, do you need to wash the tip, because it would be stack with dry glue???
@ffotograffydd

So long as you make sure you put the lid back on straight away they shouldn’t dry out. That’s what I’ve found when using these markers for dye and edge finish anyway. They’re designed to be used with acrylic paint and so have a really good seal. I had one filled with acrylic paint that I’d forgotten about, three years later when I found it it still hadn’t dried out!

@@ffotograffydd I have these pens for dye too, but waterbased glue really is drying fast You didn't try this for glueing?

I haven't wash them after use and I have had no issues with them, but that would probably make the tips last longer.

@@dearo5433 Water based adhesives don’t dry any faster than the products I have used refillable marker pens with, I know this because I use water based adhesives and often use a heat gun to speed up the drying process. It certainly dries more slowly than most edge finishing products.

This seems really cool. Is the adhesive a permanent contact cement or more of a temporary bond? I wonder how it compares to other water-based adhesives.

Been trying to find a cheap applicator that won't splurge anywhere. The dream is to get to a volume where having an intercom machine would be worthwhile. UPDATE: Received my order, I purchased all three sizes of pens and 500ml of the glue. Arrived faster than I thought it would - I chose the cheapest shipping because I wasn't in a rush. My immediate reaction to the glue was "wow that's thin", and of course it could have to be to flow through those felt(?) nibs. The few test I've ran were a little here and there. In terms of performance, you aren't going to get performance like exostick 5019n or 1816b, which is fair considering the consistancy. Tested using 1.2~m goat and calf, if glued and trimmed the glue holds, and isn't easy to pry, however easily seperates if there's an overlapping joint, and leaves behind little residue in comparison to both ecosticks. This is actually great if you're wanting a temporary hold before stitching, not so if you're only riveting, This definately has a place in the workshop, and the ease of glueing large swaths of areas SO quickly really will cut down on glue jobs, and if you need that extra hold you can get from other glues, then I plan to use an alterior glue on the edges. Win win. As an extra thought, the machines intercom sell to roll/spray the ecostick adhesives may be even slower than using the larger pen, the only downside is oneplusone currently only sell the adhesive in 500ml bottles, would love 1l or perhaps even 5l.
