One thing you didn't mention with the shark key, it actually has THREE striking surfaces. There's the fin on the back and the tail fin which you covered, but the "snout" end ALSO comes to a point. Not as sharp as the "fins", but when holding it with the tail fins upwards, you can also use the point of the "snout" portion of the shark in hammer fist strikes. I have one and I like it, but tbh it's just a bit too bulky for me to want to carry on my keychain. I like the looks of that shark tooth one though, that looks like a size I wouldn't mind carrying

Thanks for this comment. I wondered whether the nose of the fish would be an effective striking point for hammer fist strikes. I can see where this would be a bit bulky for EDC, but I often think something like this would be good for that one key to a shed or something similar. In that case, one might be walking out to the shed at night. Having this keyring in hand would mean being able to punch with the dorsal spike as intended, do a thumb-forward jab with the tail, or do a hammer fist strike if someone tried to make an attack when one was approaching the shed. This would keep me from forgetting to take anything with me to the shed because my single key for the shed would be on a ring that gave me that function.
@DShiflet01 Жыл бұрын
@@VTPSTTU You know that's a good point. I don't have any single keys like that myself(no shed lol) so that didn't occur to me but that's actually a really good use for it.

Thanks for the video. I was slow watching, and even slower commenting. A few thoughts come to mind. Around the six minute mark, Amanda points out that her Cat Self-Defense Keychain was used in two previous videos and used once. The "used once" statement sounds like an interesting, possibly scary, story. I realize that may not be a story that she can tell, but I'm interested. I hope the situation wasn't too bad for her. Kudos to Mel for putting down the tarp. I like when people selling EDC devices have that preparation mindset in everything that they do. The Cat Attack Keychain looks very familiar. You mentioned that it was featured in a recent video. Did Amanda give that presentation? I seem to remember her demonstrating that one. As I mentioned in a reply to another comment a few days ago, the value of the Shar-Key Self-Defense Keychain may be in those situations where we put a single key on a ring or chain to keep it from getting lost as easily in a drawer. I have a key to my shop, and I have it on a special keyring because I already carry too many keys most of the time. Putting the key on something like the Shar-Key means that if I just grab the key to go outside to my shop, I'm also grabbing a self-defense tool. While I'm usually carrying other tools anyway, having this tool could be an advantage if something odd were to happen as I were unlocking the door. As the other commenter noted, even the nose of the fish works to make a strike more forceful. If I'm opening the door, I probably have the nose of the fish forward. Even so, I could strike with the nose forward in the way that you demonstrated with the tail; I could punch in the way that is obvious, or I could use the tail to make a hammer strike a double-puncture wound. On top of all of that, this keychain would protect my stress level by reducing the chance of my losing a key in a drawer and having a heart attack because I'm frustrated. One of the issues that makes me curious about these kinds of devices is how much force would be transmitted to the defender's fingers with various types of less-than-ideal strikes. Part of my fear about any self-defense tool that requires me to put my fingers through holes is that I would miss a strike slightly and that the force would transfer through the device and break my fingers. Some of these seem to have points that are set wider than others. For instance, the ears on the Cat Self-Defense Keychain seem to be set much wider that the fangs on the Skull Spiked Keychain. I wonder whether the wider set of those ears would put more force on the fingers with a bad strike or put less force on the fingers. I have a feeling that no one designs these with that consideration, but that makes me curious. If I were younger and knew where all of my college textbooks were, I'd be tempted to try to make some calculations. A related issue is how effective each design would be in a real self-defense scenario. I understand that self-defense is often more about landing any strike with any weapon on any target. The least inherently effective weapon hitting the attacker's nose is better than the most inherently effective weapon missing completely or not landing in time. Even so, some weapons might be better than others depending on the target. The skull keychain seemed to give the most penetration into the watermelon. On the other hand, the Cat Attack seemed to produce catastrophic damage more quickly. Again, the distance between the prominent points might become important. If the points are close together, a near miss might miss completely. If the points are separated a little more, a near miss might still drive one prominent point into a vulnerable spot and make the attacker stop. Another thought that came to my mind was using these as necklaces. I'm not a cat person, so those appeal less to me. The Shar-Key is really too big to hang even as a gaudy necklace. For my own personal style, none of these would really work as a necklace because I just don't wear necklaces. As a very subtle style, I could see drilling a small hole in the "business end" corner of the Shar-Key Tooth Self-Defense Keyring and hanging it by an easily breakable chain or cord. In an emergency, one could reach up, put the middle finger through the hole, pull the tool off the neck cord, and have an instant self-defense tool. In effect, this would become a kind of "neck knife" in function. By drilling a small hole in the forehead of any of the cat devices, one could hang them the same way. Again, the deployment would be as simple as reaching up, putting the right fingers in the right holes, pulling to break the cord or chain, and deploying the tool as if it were a neck knife. In terms of things that absolutely wouldn't look right on me, the skull would look less stupid than a cat would. The problem with using the skull devices this way is that one would have to reverse the direction to go from the skull being hung right-side-up on the neck to being deployed. In terms of picking a favorite for myself, I'll pick as follows. For myself, the favorite has to be the Shar-Key Self-Defense Keychain. I can't see myself using this for EDC, but I think this could be useful for me for keeping the key to my shop. If I had a bad surprise going out there, I could use this while I scrambled for other weapons that would be more effective. My second favorite will be the Cat Attack Keychain. After the first video, Amanda told me that it would be available in black. At the time, she only had one in white. I have friends who love black cats. Maybe I would get one for them. My third favorite would be the White Skull Spiked Keychain. I could see myself possibly getting one of those as a kind of goofy photo prop. I would drill a hole in the middle of the forehead to hang it as a necklace. Maybe no one would see it as anything but a necklace, but maybe some would see it as a dual-purpose tacky necklace and weapon. My fourth favorite would be the Cat Self-Defense Keychain. I put this one above the others because it seems to have the most extensive testing based on what Amanda said. I put everything else together below these.

Hey Kyle, welcome home, hey Amanda love seeing you two working together like this so we can get an idea of what's best for women and men with the same tool. Tell Mel she's also fantastic! I think if you brought her into this video, you'd need more watermelons. First off, I do like that "Shark" because while you can use the fin to thrust, and without going into reverse grip, you can also you the tail for a downward strike perhaps along the nerves in the arm or into the sweet spot at the collar bone. All of these tools are great for soft targets and won't damage, unless the perp is made out of wood. And good strikes to good targets, every one of these are devastating. Living in "politically correct" NY, the metal cat spike wouldn't get through security at any event here, so I would pass on that. New York has this thing about people defending themselves. I'll be going to the community tab, and I'm going with the last one because of the rubberized grip. So, so great to see the team, keep spreading the great videos to your unwavering fans, "Weapons Wednesday" Rocks!

plastic I don't know. It looks like it would be very uncomfortable if you were hit by it but to stop someone I have my doubts. (at less you hit in the eyes or the throat) I like the shark tooth and the fish shaped ones. the fish shaped one would be easy to put on which would save time in a fight which is important. the shark tooth one would probably be most effective. but having a metal ring with a point would be better. you can just have it as a ring you don't have to take it off and put it back on again you could just have it throughout a day and take it off at night. and it could do some real damage. even if it wouldn't be sharp at the edges as long as it would tapper to a point and had some mass behind it it would be fine. those key chains however have one big advantage. they would be legal in most places (I think I mean after all its just a piece of plastic but honestly I'm not sure)
