Plant corn in 10×10 blocks. Plant them diagonally for maximum coverage. They don't have wide roots or even tap roots, and they like being together not separate. It's sort of like grass in that way. The 36" apart thing is for industrial commercial growers who need machinery space, which you don't need at home.
@Brifromscratch Жыл бұрын
This is how I have always planted my sweet corn. I just usually plant 1 row down the center. I will look into the closer spacing.
Жыл бұрын
@@Brifromscratch The main problems I've had with corn: - spaced too far apart: they can't exchange pollen, & wind action doesn't drop it into where the silk forms - remembering to fertilize: corn is a heavy feeder & loves to eat! - remembering to water: corn likes water, just like grass does.

Love what you do, Bri! My paw used to plant 3 corn seeds together as a "hill" and put the hills about a foot apart. He'd keep it weeded and when the corn had four leaves he would use a hoe to pull soil up around the corn plants. He said hilling the corn like that let the feeder roots get a better hold and kept the plants up-right in storms. Good Luck!

DEAR BRI, The Broccoli is looking do yummy. Just a note, my friend Teenie's parents were Mormon and One day I was pulling the bottom leaves off my Broccoli for my little hens. I decided to take a big bag to Teenie and her 4 hens. When I knocked and told her why I had come. She became so excited and told me that she would share some with her hens but that she would be saute the broccoli leaves in her iron skillet with onions, garlic, etc. I asked her to save me a taste and it was wonderful. I do not have a freeze dryer but dry some of the leaves in the oven to use for the Nutra Bullet smoothies. Please harvest some of the leaves and you will love it. Best wishes to you and yours from South Louisiana.

Your garden looks so inviting! Also, for us, supper gets later in the summer because of the heat. It was not uncommon for our family to have a mini-supper for the littles at a regular time (around 6:30pm) and then supper for the rest of the family around 8:30pm just due to the heat of summer. Of course, bedtimes got altered, too, so littles got to sleep in and the rest of us got more done in the mornings while the littles sleep. But now, all my littles are teens or older - I adore seeing your young ones helping and growing. Thanks so much for sharing!

If your completed freeze dried food is cold, it probably finished and extra dry time if set had expired. Then it begins to refreeze so food isn’t ruined. So you’d need to press tray warmer. You can set your extra dry time-12 hours is what many recommend -This way you can stop and check it at anytime but it won’t refreeze if it completes when your busy, not home, or still sleeping!
