Do you think your banded p and k making a difference this dry year
@salisburyfarms Жыл бұрын
I think a key difference is we didn’t have to run the soil finisher in the spring, meaning we didn’t dry the fields out by working them. We also kept a lot of the trash on top of the ground by stripping which helped with moisture retention. Plus it’s always a positive that we saved money on fertilizer by banding it rather than having it spread. As far as if it made a difference in uptake of nutrients, I would think it’s always better for the crop to have it all right there. Can’t really say if it made a huge difference from our spread and worked ground with drought resistance.. We’ll know better when the combine rolls.

@@salisburyfarms I'm seeing alot of potassium deficiency from lack of rain on strips without banding dry fert this year. Worked ground doesn't seem to look as bad with the incorporation
@salisburyfarms Жыл бұрын
Can’t say on that, we didn’t make any strips without the banded fertilizer but that’s interesting to note. During a drought it’s kind of a tough one knowing the cause. Best you could do is soil samples to see if there’s adequate potassium. There might be, it’s just so dry the corn won’t take up the K. What I do know is that no-till beans did not work this year, and corn on corn looks pretty rough.
@agger838 Жыл бұрын
@@salisburyfarms I'm not too far from you. No till beans look okay given the rain I think. What are you seeing? Corn on corn is hit or miss depending how it was done
@salisburyfarms Жыл бұрын
Very spotty stand on no-till beans here and very small. Our strip till corn on corn is definitely hurt worse than the rotated. Conventional till corn on corn looks okay. I can also say our conventional tilled clay looks pretty good but our strip tilled clay not so much.
